The subject of Brett Farve:

I have no dog in this fight as I am a purple fan.  As a player and what he has accomplished I think he did a great job.  He deserves all the awards he gets.  As a man he is the same as all of us.  We all do not measure up to perfect standards.  To compare him to Walter Payton is not apples and apples as both played different positions and were asked to do different things.  To compare to other QB's is fair and he leads a lot of stats.  The love and admiration for a player is a personal one.  One's opinion of a player may differ one's opinion of a man will differ as we all do not value accomplishments/sins the same.  One man may do some things that are wrong and they will throw him under the bus, the next man that values his accomplishments will forgive him.  We do not know the whole story here nor I doubt will we ever.  Farve has had some rough times and I respect him for his handling of them.  I do not idolize him, but I don't any man.  So the points of view I think are all subjective and personal and no one is right.

Nice article on Wartburg wrestling coach Jim Miller and his son TJ in today's Courier.
TJ is going for a second national title this weekend.
Anyone else going to be in CR? I'll be there Saturday.

Glad to see that the judge in this case was not given to public pressure and the PC movement.  It was a stupid thing but IMHO it was not criminal.

What a stupid thing to waste a bench trial on.

Now that the verdict has been handed down and common sense has prevailed, does anyone have any idea how many people could have been helped with the thousands of dollars that were spent on this trial?

Football Daddy,

I don't think that is the proper question.  We have enough money in other areas already spent.  The question is how stupid was this and how much money was wasted.  I understand that is what you are saying.  I hope the tax payers/voters of Bremer County take a look at this the next time she is up for election and decide that they need a clear thinking county prosecutor not a PC person trying to get a reputation working for them in that office.

Good thing she doesn't read this board.  Some of us might be charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for the "hate words" some of us express for our rival colleges.  I would hate to see a Wartburg fan get arrested after they make a Luther joke that causes a violent reaction.

So you are saying you supported your son while at Central but you are with Heys and are a Cornell fan  :o

Or are you saying you are a Vikings fan???

Will teams spend their spring practice shoveling snow off of fields???  Or will they practice at their schools wellness centers???  How soon until IIAC schools HAVE to have a practice bubble to keep up with the Jones???

Sportsknight,
I won't pick apart your entire post, though I probably could. But to answer your question of when did Favre ever take a pay cut. Many times. He restructured his contract so many times, he'll still be on the payroll for about ten more years. Favre has taken a lot of heat over the years from the players union and other individuals for his stance on honoring contracts. You can google- Brett Favre charity- and peruse the 104,000 matches that come up, if you question his motives.
To blame him for the way some fans and announcers carry on doesn't make much sense. It is easier to revere a QB in one town for 17 years than 25 starting QB's in another town over the same time frame.
In closing I'd just like to say; upon further review, the Bears still suck!

Great post.

Last night on my way home, I cut down through Evanston.  What I saw was very depressing.  A high school baseball team dressed like they were heading into the arctic, playing baseball in the parking lot.  I have no idea why they do not switch to summer baseball.  I could not imagine throwing the rock in this weather.  I do some business with an AD at a large high school, and he commented that the first games will be played later this month.  And I thought playing football in Stom Lake in late October/early Nov. was brutal.

I enjoyed watching Brett FAV-ruh play.  Entertaining to say the least...I remember Sonny Jurgensen flipping the ball behind his back to avoid a sack and try to complete an improbable play.

FAV-ruh was just as likely to try something goofy which made it fun to watch.

To me Johnny U. is the greatest ever...but I'm an old school guy.

Actually I think it is the other way around since I was a Vikings fan long before being a Dutch fan.  Becoming a Dutch fan helped balance things out.   :D :D :D :D
