Warthog,
2 yrs ago my parents (upper 70's) + 45 yr old sister went from Minneapolis to the NW and had a great trip/experience w/ Amtrack. Maybe they were kind to sr. citizens but they encourage other to take the trip.

Just my $.02 worth.

Everyone always makes fun of me (especially Sportsknight) for being from MN, but if you were a Minnesota Warthog, you could claim southern Canadian residency.  Maybe that would be non-American enough for them.

This group always has an opinion on something.

Mrs. Warthog and I thought an Amtrak trip to the Northwest through the Rocky Mountains might be a nice vacation this year.  What I've discovered so far is that Amtrak isn't very customer friendly unless you are from outside the United States.  They have a great See America plan for people to get on and off as often as you would like over a 20 day period (I may be wrong on the # of days), but the hook is you can't be an American.  I asked the sales rep to repeat what she had said because I wasn't sure I understood.  As Americans we need to know exactly where we are going and when we are returning.  If I were German, Russian, Iranian or Congolese I could get on and off where ever and when ever I pleased.  That is nuts!

Any way, what I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with Amtrak and have any suggestions for me?

Now what do you expect from a government program?

You would think after 9/11 they really wouldn't want foreigners able to get on and off trains whenever they felt like it with no itenerary and then not let Americans do the same but I guess that is the government for you.  Sorry Warthog I have no advice for you.  That one just stumps me.

DF2k4...Redlands opens their season against Dubuque.  Why do I get the feeling THAT is a game you will get out to see your son coaching in.  Just one more way to boo Dubuque once again during the season  ;D

I'd imagine this isn't that big a concern, since passengers can't go into and out of the country via Amtrak.  That's more INS or the CIA's department.

Now now  you don't know me to well.  I never boo against a team.  I only cheer for my team.  But we are thinking of going to the UD game as it is a bye week for the Dutch.

I was not aware of this.  So they are stopping loans all together or just to IIAC schools?

According to the news and newspapers they stop all loans as of April they will not be giving out loans as they lost backers for the bonds they issue for the loans. That how my son went to college was thru Iowa Student loans

Mine as well.  I do not know where they will go now.  I am sure that the Wartburg financial aid office can help find some one to go to.

I  saw in the business section of the Des. Moines Register that it would effect 26,000 students. IT said that Central had sent 600 e-mail of its 1,500 students to start looking for alternative sources of money they will need for 08-09 school year. Also Central has talked to U.S bank

They now have to go to private lenders don't know how much more that will cost. Makes those NAIA scholarships look even better

I also hear that the Interest Rate would be higher for a school loan and plus will need a co-signer that is if they qualify.
