I believe that the IIAC is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, actually.

When a release is sent out, it's sent to all contacts on their media list simultaneously, so I don't know if you can say that they focus on any one region over another. What I am disappointed by is that the releases are all stats. They are missing a huge opportunity to highlight a human interest side of things, which is what the media is more likely to take note of. Stats can definitely tell a story, but pitching a human interest piece will probably get more ink........

Someone for Upper Iowa used to (I'm not sure if they do anymore) post  a link to their top stories of the day on the Register online message board on the online sports page.

Knightlife-Linfield was no doubt the better team- As sad as it is to say-I felt fortunate that the game was so close.

'04-I'm not sure what you mean by the '03 team being the first 10-0 team in 10 years.
The '99 Knights were 10-0, and I believe the '98 Dutch were as well, along with that, probably the '97 Storm.

Which most likely explains why the IIAC coverage is kept to a blurb in the Iowa Scene portion of the sports page.

I have felt like some kids have received more press to sign with Billy Penn, then the Knights received after winning another national championship on the wrastlin' mat.

My Surprise Teams.

3.)  2007 UD Spartians:  I figured this was an 8-2 team.

2.)  2005 Luther Norseman:  With all the talent that team returned, I figured it would have been their year.

1.)  2004 BV Beavers:  With the conference championship locked up, and letting it slip away.  That just has not happened a lot in our fair conference.

To expand on my idea, in addition to what the conference and the SID put out, we send an email or two when one of our particular schools athletic teams does something noteworthy. These emails would be of the "Do you have any more information on the #6 Central football team?" or "I've heard that the Luther baseball team is nationally ranked, do you have any articles on them?" By asking for information and coverage as fans, we could raise awareness of the need for more coverage of the IIAC. I honestly think that if we keep a constant request for coverage over a number of sports, the Des Moines media will give the IIAC more priority. It won't take much time to write, and it would be hard for us to get any less coverage of the conference.

Well, I think we all need to give some thought to the newspaper mentality.  They want readers and to them readers are more interested in the minor sports at the state universities or the major sports at universities on the coasts than they are about the IIAC.  A few years ago a lovely young lady, who was very close to our family, sent an e-mail to The Quad City Times, The Muscatine Journal , and The Burlington Hawkeye.  In her e-mail she listed all the former Mississippi Athletic Conference football players who were on the roster at Wartburg .  For the next two years we had improved coverage of the IIAC in general and the Knights in particular.  You need to let them know readers want IIAC coverage and they are willing to buy subscriptions to get it.

nice job Walston Rainman, those all  sound correct.

If you're a b-ball fan, I highly recommend that you come to KC the next time they host the Big 12 tourney.

The new Sprint Center and bars/restaurants are  nice and it's a great atmosphere.

There is an  outdoor area between the bars that has a canopy roof and a huge big screen TV- I was standing at least 40 yards away and could see the game just fine- Probably 2000-2500 people drinking beer/watching game in this area Friday night

Now if only they would host a Big 10 Tourney and Iowa could field a competitive team

It is 3:00 in the mornig and I can't sleep.  I'm worrying about filling out my brackets in the office pool.  I haven't watched enough D1 basketball this year to have a clue what teams to pick.  ???

Since I hate to appear really stupid and get last place in the pool, does anyone have a good no cost web-site to help me figure this thing out?  :-[

Warthog,
I think you've come to the right place. There are plenty of "experts" who will be happy to share their knowledge FOR FREE.

The one stat I heard Monday that re-enforced my choices in semi-finals.
"In the past 50 years, the teams that are currently in the BIG 12 have won ONE title." 1988 Kansas w/ Danny Manning.

The other advice I'd give is don't bet on the Big 10 teams to do much.

Good Luck.

There always seems to be one 12 seed that wins every year.  You just have to figure out which 12 seed it will be.

Walston Hoover

Warthog- I believe you can go under yahoo sports and it lists the order of how teams are projected to do from 1-65. I haven't checked yet this year, but they have had that list in the past.
