I have formulated a theory over the years. I break the bracket into halves and pick a team who has the talent to make the sweet 16. An example of this could be Drake. I see Drake beating WKU and give them the nodd against UConn. After that I use logic and match ups.

I try to stay away from trendy picks like Pitt or Tenn. I also do not buy into a team like Georgia. They played out of body and I do not feel the odds are with them to continue. I personally do think Temple has a chance to make some noise.

I have never won a pool with this theory, but I have finished in the top 5 of many large pools many times. If this is hard to understand, sorry as it might be a bit dense.

It is 3:00 in the mornig and I can't sleep.  I'm worrying about filling out my brackets in the office pool.  I haven't watched enough D1 basketball this year to have a clue what teams to pick.  ???

Since I hate to appear really stupid and get last place in the pool, does anyone have a good no cost web-site to help me figure this thing out?  :-[

Warthog, the only stuff you need to know about filling out your brackets this year can be found on Page 2 on ESPN.com -- http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=celebrities/080317

Where else can you find advice based on celebrity alumni factors? The most dapper coach bracket? The cheesiest mascot challenge? The collegiate beer contest?

I think this is the way to go!  ;D

Because it's Holy Week and Easter on Sunday, I'm thinking of picking all Catholic schools through the weekend. :-)

There's no science to picking the brackets.  Case in point, my senior year some of my buddies and me decided to get pool going and got about 30 guys in it.  My roommate's girlfriend (who does not know a thing about bball) decided at the last minute to join in.  She based her picks solely on friends she had at the schools, nicknames and uniform colors, she got third.  And probably would've won if she didn't have a team like Holy Cross (can't remember the real team) in the final four b/c her best friend went to school there.  Pick some upsets then pray you picked the right ones.

FORGET THE BASKETBALL

RICK WILLIS is FOOTBALL COACH FINALIST @ St. CLOUD STATE.

Willis must want out of Wartburg about as much as Raeburn did Coe..........how many times has he been a finalist since he stepped down as Wartburg's coach?

Alfredeneumann

I'm guessing it more a case of getting back to being a football coach, not an administrator.

I know he really has had his hands full the past 2 years with the "W" project.

I should have used smiley faces, but it does seem fitting (mostly, but not entirely) the Wartburg posters enjoyed knocking Coe for Raeburn interviewing for other positions.

Maybe Willis took the admin job b/c he knew he couldn't compete w/ McMartin???  :o :o :o

You'll have to refresh my memory.  I guess I don't remember too much slamming.  Maybe some good natured jabbing sort of like your latest message about not wanting to compete with the Dutch.

Willis is the kind of guy that should be coaching.  Being behind a desk and worrying on game day about the PA system, reserved seating for some important visitor, keeping order in the end zone, or making sure the ticket takers are in place are not the best use of his talents.  The guy is a football coach.  I think he does a good job as AD, but it appears to me there is still that fire in the belly to be on the sidelines on Saturday afternoons.  If Saint Cloud is what he wants I wish him the best.

I guess the biggest difference I see is that Willis is open about interviewing for another job, while Raeburn kept everything secret. Just an observation.

That and the fact that Willis is not coaching at present.  It always seemed to me that Raeburn was seeking out other employment, where as I have heard that Willis has been a lot more selective about what rings into which he tosses his hat.

I'd also agree with Warthog's sentiments.  I was pretty surprised when Willis got out of coaching and stuck to doing the AD thing on a full time basis.  He always seemed to me to be a guy that would rather be in the office breaking down film and putting together a gameplan, as opposed to typing up bids to host regional soccer or scheduling referees.  I'd be willing to be that he got a pretty nice pay bump when he became the AD, but sometimes money isn't everything.

As much as I'd hate to see Coach Willis leave Wartburg, if getting back into coaching is going to make him happy, then I wish him the best of luck during this St. Cloud process.

As a Central fan, I'd love to see Willis leave Wartburg  ;D.....I remember everyone in the conference sharing a huge sigh of relief when he took over the AD position. He's a hell of a coach, and he scared a lot of people when he was at the helm. He really should be coaching again. His talents are wasted pushing a pencil.

Best of luck to Willis in the application process.

I'm also disappointed that Coach Willis may be leaving Wartburg. I got to know him the two years he was coach and always thought he was very honest with my son. But I was surprised when he got out of coaching, But isn't St Cloud a DII school and if so thats a step up and want to wish him the best of luck.

BB

I would like to echo what everyone else is saying about Willis....he is an outstanding coach and it would be great to see him coaching again.   Correct me if I am wrong but there have been some ties with Wartburg and St. Cloud State over the past ten years so a possible move there makes sense.   Did St. Cloud State state fire their coach in the middle of the season?   Should be interesting to see how it all plays out and I wish Coach Willis the best of luck!

As far as basketball goes, I am thinking about picking this years as though it was a Divison I football pool (pretending that USC is no good in football) and see how that goes...it can't be any worse than the past couple of years.

Interesting concept.  What do you do with schools like Gonzaga that don't have football teams?
