If Willis does leave Wartburg for St. Cloud how do people on here see it turning out for Wartburg?

I have always thought of Wartburg as a school that did a good job of realising that a strong athletic department was a great advertisement for the school and helped everywhere from alumni giving high student counts and everything else.

I have in the past thought Luther thought the same way but I hear now there is an element of the faculty that feels Luther should push themselves as a music school and their athletic teams don't seem to be as dominant as they once were in the conference.

Is there a block at Wartburg that might not feel strongly about athletics at Wartburg?  Replacing Willis could potentially be a big hire.  Hire a good candidate that works well with the school administration as well as the community and continues to hire good coaches and gets them good budgets and Wartburg, with its facilities could be a conference power in most every sport and really finish strong every year in the directors cup.  I hope there isn't a group at Wartburg that sees dumb jocks when they think of atheletes and moves to push athletics into the background.

What is the consences on this board for which way Wartburg will head if Willis leaves to get back into coaching?  Whether is is for St. Cloud or some other school in the near future.

I think there is where Luther is off base.  I think you can have both.  I think Wartburg has a good music program and they sure have a good sports program.

Very interesting first and second round of the tourney.  My bracket is busted.  I hope others faired better than I did.

Happy Easter!

If Willis does leave I think it will be important to hire someone who knows the importance of a strong athletics as well as balance that out with academics and still factor in music and other programs at Wartburg.  Willis was a strong believer in football being a tool to help students get a good education and to learn life lessons beyond the playing field.  SK, Walston, or AEN might have a sharper memory than me, but Willis stepped in as Softball coach one year and lead the Knights to a pretty successful year.  If he leaves, Wartburg needs to replace him with someone who realizes the importance of all sports as well as everything else Wartburg has to offer.

Klopenhiemer ...

I have only 9 teams left in the Sweet Sixteen ... and without Duke and Georgetown, my Elite 8 is down to six.  I love upsets ... when it is my team doing the upsetting!

I agree with the upsetting when it is your team.  You have to pick the upsets correctly first is the problem I have.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I now have LL Cool J's "Don't call it a comeback" going through my head.  Here's to you going from 9-16 today to 8-8 after friday's games!!!

I have 11-16 left but thanks to most everyone else in my pool doing poorly I am tied for 2nd place out of 17 in the pool.  Better yet I am 2 points ahead of my wife...so I got that going for me!!!

I agree.  I picked some perenail powerhouses (UK and Duke) to make some small waves in the tourney.  That did not happen.  G'Town KILLED me.  I was very upset when they lost.  All of this makes Drake folding like a cheap card table even more despressing.  I would not consider myself a Drake fan, but I was hoping that the team could bring a little more spotlight to a state that does not get a whole lot of respect in the basketball world.

I don't know that this is how I'd characterize the Drake loss.  They didn't play their best game, but to come back from 16 down with ten minutes to play and eventually get beat on a miracle shot is hardly "folding like a cheap card table."

Well SK I did not consider BV to fold like a cheap card table in 04, but those were your words.

In some respects I did expect more from Drake.  They earned a 5 seed.  They beat people when they had to.  They walked through the MVC tourney.  They won at Butler.  They were playing a team from the Sun Belt conference.  There were down 16 points at one point.  They did come back, as they have done all year.  Did they fold like a cheap card table?  Probably not. Was their loss/play upsetting?, You betcah!

I'm on the Drake bandwagon -- Go Bulldogs!!

...and the wheels fell off the wagon. :'( :'( :'(

But a great game :)

Just drove down University past campus, there is a 6inch deep river of tears streaming out of the campus heading west down University.

KR, that's quite the road trip for you -- I thought you had already left for San Diego.  ;)

I really thought my brackets were in the toilet after Upset Weekend, but it turns out that I am 16th in the office pool (out of around 80 people) and I'm in pretty decent pull position for the next couple of rounds....Out of sheer dumb luck, I may come close to winning this year!!

Yes, they were playing a team from the Sun Belt who had only lost one game since early January and 5 of their 6 losses were against Gonzaga, Southern Ill., Tennessee and two from South Alabama. Courtney Lee and Tyrone Brazelton would probably start on any MVC team from this year. Pretty tough #12 seed.

It sounds like everyone around the Drake program knew it was going to be a dog fight.
