We had a little action in the Chicago this morning with a 5.2 level earth quake hitting 230 miles south of the windy city.

This thing was felt from Kansas to Ohio from what the news reports are saying.

I thought earth quakes only applied to PH in CA ;D

It even woke the Mrs up this morning.

It was felt in west Michigan as well.

My son and his wife felt it in Davenport.

5.2?  That's all?  Just a little temblor as the say out in SoCal.

C'mon folks you haven't lived until you get in the 7's.

When your Freeways start falling apart, that's when you'll know you've had a earthquake.

Actually though, I think the flat terrain works against you folks and allows such a quake to be felt from so far away.

The mountains tend to absorb it out here I guess.

From that distance a 5.2 doesn't even compare to an Uncle Orly gas passage.

So, at 3:07am Iowa time, I wonder what time that made it in China for PH???

My dad felt this earthquake while visiting my sister down in the quad cities.  He said this was a pretty long lasting earthquake.  He told me most of the midwest earthquakes he has felt have been shorter versions.  The ones he went through when my parents lived in Cali were everything from short to long, light to strong.

How many days until Sept. 6th???

Doolittle you can go to the Central Football site they have a clock on a count down for the 2008 kick off.  It is kind of cool.  I am looking forward to this season just as much as last.  I will miss rooting for my own kid but will love watching the IIAC race without a dog in the fight so to speak.  I still and will always want Central to win the IIAC but the pressure is off.

The Show

I know what you mean.  With younger Show graduating this year, I no longer have any relation playing, but I'll still be rooting for the Beavers!  Although, maybe my pick-em's will fair a little better this upcoming season...

Looks like your karma's running a little thin, here's +1.

For those needing a football fix -- Joe Brannen threw four touchdown passes tonight in the Barnstormers' 53-38 victory over the Steamwheelers. Could he be the next Kurt Warner? Fred Jackson?  ???
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

CK one can only hope.  There was a nice article on him today in the DM Reg.  It talked about him quiting his job to play with the Barnstormers.

It said the previous starting QB quit and was still owned by the Barnstormers.  No wonder they lost two games.  Sounds like a situation of piss poor leadership.  Glad an IIAC guy making good waves.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I hope his success will lead to the Barnstormers giving other IIAC players a chance to break into the league.  There are many that have the talent to play at that level.  They had a Barnstormer announcer on the local sports radio station up here in Waterloo last week who tried to bring up Brannen a few times but the local DJ only wanted to talk UNI players getting a chance and former Hawkeyes and Cyclones...he just wasn't interested in IIAC players unfortunately.

Everybody's scrambling trying to figure out a 19 to put in today!!!

Or the weather was half way decent yesterday so everyone was getting the kids outside to burn off excess energy, and get some yard work done!!!

Oh, the big red blinders have me wanting to say, could he be the next Vern Den Herder?  Given the Barnstormers and the QB connection, I can see the comparison for Kurt Warner and the Coe connection for Fred Jackson, but Kurt wasn't from the IIAC, though you can't argue with his success.  Fred is doing okay, but I'm not sure he would be the pick to immulate.  I would go for a guy that played in the Super Bowl his first 3 years in the NFL, made defensive MVP and played on the only undefeated team in NFL history.  But then I have big red blinders on.   :'( :'( :'(  I guess if I had Coe blinders I would say the same thing.    :-\
