My son's high scholl team wore all black too, but they had worn it since the 70's. Many high school teams wear all black when black isn't even one of their colors. I suppose it's to look cool and to save on uniform damage. I guess I'm old school and you should be proud of your school colors, even the green white and pink of Des Moines North.

In junior high your mom had to wash your uniform.  I had a friend that got blood on his pants the first game of the season.  He wouldn't let his mom wash his pants the entire season because he thought it made him look tougher to have blood on him!!!  I suppose in todays world that wouldn't work with the whole aids scare going on, but back then you could get away with it.

I like the black look that Wartburg has but I do wish they would work some orange in there some place.  That was the main color I remember way back when for them.  I liked it when Dubuque first had black added to their blue.  I thought it looked nice.  But when they went back to pretty much just blue and white last season I really liked them going back to their traditional colors.  I suppose switching it up every so often keeps it fresh and interesting for the school.

Doolittle you are correct.  If there is blood on the uniform now they have to be sent off the field and change it or at least treat it and clean it off before they can play.  Blood is a big deal.  Same way if a player is bleeding now.  When we were in school they didn't care if a play was bleeding so long as it wasn't an artery and spurting.   ;D ;D

That is a nicely done highlight film. I know why Luther doesn't put theirs on youtube or their website. Because it is over an hour long, and not that entertaining. It includes damn near every pass reception and about 200 of Tyler Sheridens best runs. It flips back and forth between games, so by the time you figure out which team is whitch, the play is over and into the next one.

I have seen a few of the football DVD edits for the Norse (since around 2002), and each year it seems to go downhill in terms of editing/professionalism.  You would think you could put a pretty good highlight film together over the past few years with all of the plays that Sherden, Pearson, Sweers, and others made, but the one from this past year is so hard to watch that I might have made it through the DVD almost once.

If it were up to me I would copy what Iowa and others have done and format it so that people could pick a game and watch highlights (or lowlights at times).  To not have it arranged by games is just maddening unless you are only a fan of the passing game and Sherden.  The Sherden stuff is legit, but you would have thought Luther was a passing team by watching that edit.

I remember back in high school almost two decades ago when I wrote for the school and town newspaper as part of taking media.  The school and the media teacher took very seriously what was written and going into the newspaper.  The media teacher didn't scrutinize to the same extent what the video part of the media class was doing as far as quality and gave people a lot of "freedom" to put together sport video edits and such.  The Luther Football DVD reminds me of the high school video media in that they look like they were done with no structure by some teenagers who may have been drinking during the editing process.  I am sure they had a fun time :), but how much are players going to watch these things in 10-15 years?

21 - Inches, football circumfrence (across laces)

21 - National average ACT score

21 - Consecutive victories by Luther (1953-56)

That Norse winning streak was only 52 years ago! :(  It would be nice to see the Norse have an 8 or 9 game winning streak some year.  They have won 4 in a row a couple of times in recent years off the top of my head (2007 and 2004).

21 - Baseball number worn by Lee Swenson when he was a catcher for the Norse and punter in football.  The Norse won the conference in 1983, 1984, and 1985 in baseball and Swens was drafted in the 7th round by the Twins.  Having an absolute cannon for an arm even when he was a baseball and football assistant at North Dakota State and Luther in the 1990s, Lee has been on the University of Minnesota staff for around 10 years.

22 - TD passes for Shawn Tate in 1996 for Dubuque...Dubuque was 1-9 that season.

This is an interesting stat since the Dubuque media guide also says that 21 TD passes is the singe season record at Dubuque set in 1997!!!  Maybe he started the season with Coe and then pulled a Suckow and transferred over to Dubuque 1 game into the season  ;D

Just a little insight...... Jermar Jackson probably is the best all around athletic QB that could score through the air and ground that UD has ever had but Shawn Tate was hands down, the best pure passer that UD has ever had. He had field vision like no other and could put the ball where ever he wanted on a dime. Had he had 4 full years at UD, he would have broke every passing record in the book and they would never be broken! Even with the 22 passing TD's in 96, he didn't start until the 3rd game of the season!

And even with Jermar's success, Shawn Tate still has many of the records in the book.
2 very different styles of QB's and both remarkable athletes. Jermar was fortunate to have a much better supporting cast to work with also. Tate had 500 yards of total offense in a game against BV and threw 5 TD's I believe and UD still got beat like 49-42 or something--no time to get completely accurate numbers...

How's everyone's fantasy baseball teams doing so far  ;D

Last year was the first since middle school that footballmom hasn't had to wash uniforms and practice clothes. This was at a large 2A school. The worst part was having your son play quarterback and having to get grass stains out of the back of the jersey. Maybe at larger high schools they washed the uniforms, but it never happened to us until college.

I thought the Coe highlight film was pretty good. I'll admit that some of the film wasn't of the best quality, especially when the camera wasn't level. I thought insertng still pictures of the play was a great idea. I filmed my son's high school games for the coaches, and at the end of the year made a highlight film for the banquet. We also sold the season's games on dvd for the booster club as a fundraiser. Now that I've watched Coe's film I need to dig out the old discs and watch them again.

Rumor has it Daunte Culpepper maybe wearing Green and Gold next year.  Definitely fires up those MN fans.

I really like all black uniforms...especially if it is your school color (both HS and College were all black at home).  For away, I agree they need white or at least light color tops.  I would love to see some colleges do an extreme uniform for at least one game a year.  Obviously it would not be easy money wise, but an all orange uniform for Wartburg...homecoming?  I'm sure the admissions would love to use that.  Just as long as you don't have all baby blue like UIU.

I saw that and don't think that's were to look for a back up QB. I suggest drafting one. But who knows he may be big enough to fill the roll that  Gilbert Brown played on the d-line.  Is the MN trade for Chef's  Jared Allen Hershel Walker #2 trade? Seems like a lot of picks.

I remember seeing something about that on PTI one time...right?  It was pretty bad.  But they maybe could add some black to not make it too over powering.
