Wartburg is wrapping up recruiting and has "committments" from some guys that will be able to come in a fight for a spot right away. They are trying to keep it to 40-50 guys, going for quality over quantity this year, but its tough to turn down guys that want to wear the orange and black.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I wouldn't be surprised if his fumble stats were comparable.  That guy had D1 talent but the brains of a gnat.

There was a game in the early '90s where Central wore all red. I want to say it was against BV but I can't say for sure. Some of the lineman looked like overripe strawberries on the field that day.

Sounds like the Knights will be a solid favorite for the IIAC crown then.

My brother, whose wife teaches at Michigan State, sent me this clip on youtube.  Apparently at Spartan Stadium on defensive 3rd downs, they will show this clip on the big screen and then the Spartan fans erupt.  He said its hard for the offensive team to make their 3rd down after that.  Check it out.

If only the UD Spartans could come up with something like that.

Granted, the IIAC isn't the Big 10, but do any IIAC schools have a unique football cheer?  "You suck" doesn't count!

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Ohle out as W-burg president. I'll miss the guy. Just ate lunch with him 2 weeks ago.
Wartburg's Ohle accepts Gustavus Adolphus presidency

April 25, 2008

Wartburg College President Jack R. Ohle has accepted the position of president at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter , Minn.

The Gustavus Adolphus Board of Trustees elected Ohle this morning to succeed James L. Peterson, who is retiring.

Gustavus Adolphus, a 2,500-student liberal arts college, is near Mankato , 60 miles southwest of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Like Wartburg, it is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America .

"We want to congratulate Jack and his wife, Kris, on the new opportunities they will have at Gustavus Adolphus, while recognizing the dynamic leadership and vision that they have brought to Wartburg," said Fred W. Hagemann, a member of the Wartburg Class of 1967 and chair of the Wartburg College Board of Regents. "The Wartburg community expresses its gratitude to President Ohle for the unprecedented growth in enrollment and in the endowment, academic achievements and the rebuilding of the campus infrastructure, which occurred under his guidance."

Ohle, 60, was elected president at Wartburg May 1, 1998. His final day will be June 30.

"The past 10 years have been the most fulfilling and rewarding in our career," Ohle said. "The support of the members of the Board of Regents, the Wartburg faculty and staff and the Waverly community has enabled us to bring Wartburg to a position as one of the premier liberal arts colleges in the state and region.

"Although the decision to leave Wartburg has been very difficult, the invitation to assume the presidency at Gustavus Adolphus College comes at an ideal time for a transition in leadership as Wartburg moves dramatically into its future."

Hagemann said the executive committee of the Board of Regents has had a preliminary discussion regarding the search process as well as the administration of the college in the interim.

"One thing we know," Hagemann said, "is that we will be operating from a position of strength in the search. Thanks to Jack's leadership, Wartburg's stature has grown, and it will be very attractive to many candidates."

Hagemann stressed current Wartburg initiatives will continue, such as the Commission on Mission efforts to enhance the college's four "missional concepts" --- leadership, service, faith and learning

"The Board of Regents launched the Commission on Mission process," Hagemann said, "and it is well underway with the work of its task forces and after numerous summits across the country. The board appreciates the work that has been done thus far and is eager to receive the recommendations that will be put forward."

Hagemann added that the transition is timely in that it will enable the next Wartburg president to become part of both the process involving Commission on Mission and its implementation.

During his decade at the college, Ohle, Wartburg's 16th president, directed Commission Wartburg, a long-range planning initiative that engaged 235 Wartburg alumni and friends to create a blueprint for the future. Commission Wartburg led to Campaign Wartburg, which surpassed its goal of $88 million by raising $90.3 million, and the implementation of 97 percent of 266 recommendations. It was so successful that it became part of Harvard University 's higher education case study catalog for general instructional use.

Campus renovations included the new science center, the Saemann Student Center, Vogel Library, the Knights Village and Löhe Hall residence halls, a new campus entrance, Walston-Hoover Stadium, and, most recently, the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center, a 200,000-square foot complex housing indoor intercollegiate athletics and campus and community fitness facilities.

Enrollment increased from 1,400 to 1,800, and 21 new full-time faculty positions were created. New technology was integrated across the campus.

The college also expanded its community outreach with programs that have gained a national reputation. A $2.5 million grant from the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation led to a vocational discernment program called "Discovering and Claiming Our Callings," and the Center for Community Engagement was opened.

Ohle graduated in 1969 from Ohio Northern University with a degree in social work. He did graduate work toward a Master of Divinity degree at Hamma School of Theology in Springfield , Ohio , and completed his Master of Arts degree in higher education administration at Bowling Green State University in Ohio . He holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque , Iowa .

Before coming to Wartburg, Ohle served at Drake University in Des Moines for 11 years, first as vice president for institutional advancement and later as senior vice president for external affairs and secretary to the university. Prior to that, he held administrative positions at Nebraska Wesleyan University , Ohio Northern University and Muskingham College in Ohio .

President Ohle is a class act from the word go.  He will be missed by Wartburg.  I hope they can replace him with a person that has many of his qualities.
