I am a big fan of the yellow pants that BV is sporting.  I like yellow football pants in general, but I am one of those outside the box people.  I think it was a drastic improvement over the last unis that sported all blue and white.  Yellow is a school color and I am glad they brought it back into the uniforms.  I am also very glad to see them move away from the cartoon beaver.  I am a much bigger fan of the helmet decal.

I am not a fan of all black uniforms.  I think the black washes the rest of the uniform out.  It would be interesting to see the evil empire add some more organge to the uniforms consider the motto of "Be Organge".

No offense Cornell fans, but I am not a fan of purple on anything, but I do dig the white helmets.  I think that looks sharp for both Cornell and Central.

Klop, I am with you.  I think it odd that a school with the motto "Be Orange" chooses not to be, particularly in such a high profile sport.  I am neither a fan of, nor opposed to, the all black uniforms other than that it ignores what they are trying to sell.  I do not personally like it when Central does all red, and even less when they do all white.  I just really like the nice, sharp contrast of the red and white I guess.

12:25pm today - Mini Show is born!

Unlike our first, this one will be able to strap on the pads!  8 lbs. 10 oz. boy.  Dad is pretty proud. ;D
I think he needs to be added to the Central prospective student list!  Congratulations!

Maybe we can get Daddy Vogs to come back and fill in. He's done it @ least 3 times since he retired.  ;D

I am not on campus but this announcement came fast. An all campus  e-mail came @ 9:30 announcing a meeting @ 10 for all on campus to attend.

Didn't BV used to sport a more gold-tone pant? The bright yellow is throwing me off....I think I rememeber more of a gold tone. Correct me if I'm wrong....

I thought I remembered the 'Burg throwing some color into their unis, too. I know that they haven't always been all black....I remember more orange and white tops with black pants....I liked the contrast. Personal opinion, though. I suppose the all black unis tend to foster the bada$$ perception they try to create.  ;D

Wartburg College President Jack R. Ohle has accepted the position of president at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter , Minn.

Wow.  That's a surprise, but not a big one.  With the completion of the new wellness center, I started to wonder what Ohle's next move would be.  He came to Wartburg ten years ago and began a process that has transformed the physical look of the campus, and it was clear that was his "mission" while he was President.  A renovated library, a new football and track complex, a new student center, a new science building, two new dorms, three other new athletic fields, and a wellness center later, his job is done and it is probably time for a new challenge.  This move will also allow some new president to come in and make their mark on the college.

I definitely wish President Ohle well, and I'll be very interested to see how the process of selecting a new president will go.  I can think of a few people I would like to see take over, and at least one in-house candidate that I would have a strong opposition to.

President Ohle is a class act from the word go.  He will be missed by Wartburg.  I hope they can replace him with a person that has many of his qualities.

I sat with him once for a Friday session at the National Wrestling Championships the year that it was at Northfield a few years ago.  He was very nice and fun to talk to.  Augsburg, Wartburg, and Luther finished 1,2,3 at the tourney with Wartburg finishing 2 points ahead of the Norse, but even with the close race Ohle was actually cheering for Norse wrestlers as part of his overall IIAC pride (or at least he was being nice around me :)).  It was early in the tourney and Luther grapplers weren't going against Knight wrestlers, so I might have even been nice and supportive of Wartburg wrestlers as well.

I am surprised that he left.  I don't know what the current environment/view has been towards him on the campus as far as all of the spending that he oversaw, but he clearly changed that campus from a physical perspective.  He also seemed to be a huge fan of the sports teams.  More importantly, he seemed to support the athletic programs.

I too will miss President Ohle. He could relate to anyone at any time. He always made me and my family feel comfotable each time that we talked to him. As for his commitment to athletics, just watching him during a football game showed his commitment. During the Central game last year I thought he was going to blitz from the top of Walston-Hoover. I hope his replacement keeps the momentum going that has been started.

Walston do you think President Ohle leaving has something to do with Coach Willis looking for another job.

Nothing whatsoever. There are only a handful of jobs Willis would leave Wartburg for and one of them happened to open up for him this year. Purely coincidental.

Keep in mind that he was a linebacker while he was a student at Ohio Northern back in the day and coached football at a couple of stops along the way.  When ONU hosted the national wrestling tournament back in '03, Ohle introduced a couple of us to his old football coach, who told us about the game that Ohle played with two broken hands.  Both mitts in casts, he still managed to grab a crucial interception down the stretch.

I forgot about that story. He coached with Woody Hayes at one of his stops. I believe he coached also in one of the first Stagg Bowls.

I wouldn't be surprised if his fumble stats were comparable.  That guy had D1 talent but the brains of a gnat.

I'd say he was consistent.

OK...just back from southern China.

Things that struck me as funny:

How the Chinese folks adopt English names...for our benefit.

The Hotel desk attendant, "Sean", didn't look Irish.  Neither "Lydia" nor "Anita" looked Hispanic, nor did "Francisco", who I met at the trade show.  "Oscar" didn't look German or Argentinian.  "Fran", our waitress at the bar just smiled a lot when I made it a point to use her name and asked her if Fran was short for Francine or Frances.  I just had to chuckle when "Hazel" served our beer one night.

When they didn't understand me in English, I tried Spanish...didn't work either, but it sure looked funny as they tried figure out if my Spanish was some form of English communication.

I've decided that when Chinese folks come to visit our company that I will be Lao Che (not the Polish band).

Bamboo, when used for scaffolding 8 stories up looks crazy...yet when you take in to account the engineering properties and material cost of the stuff...you get it.

Duck lips.  On the menu, didn't eat it.  Did eat chicken knuckles but avoided the feet and the real McNuggets.

No mini pickup trucks...lots of mopeds, scooters and motorcyles loaded as if they were, though.

In the rural areas, folks take their water buffalo for walks.

You can get a nice foot massage for 2 bucks...not exactly funny, but my wife won't touch my feet for any money.
