I know, it's like a bad wreck on the interstate. you don't want to look, but you can't stop yourself! :o :o :o

I keep hoping the last regular season game turns out differently, but it stays the same.

Yeah, I saw it...talk about a game of inches  :'(  Oh well...the great thing about sports is there is always next year.

So looking at that video.  The qb takes the most hits of anyone out there.  As a parent does that make you cringe to see that???  Or do you just figure his brothers beat him up enough as a kid so he can take the punishment on the field!!!

Well he took some shots that is for sure, but as you said him being the youngest of 4 boys his brothers made sure he was tough.  Also him having had two broken thumbs and a smashed nose in high school he was tough.  He was way tougher than I ever was.  (did i just admit that?)  I hope he doesn't read this he will not let me forget I said this but it is true.

Good to see Central only copied two of the songs from the Wartburg Highlight Video.   ;D

I realize they play it before the home games too, but I still find it a bit odd that a team named the "Dutch" uses "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys during their warm-up and highlight music.  I have to admit, I skipped past the highlights from the Wartburg game because I like that song and I don't want it to be ruined for me.

I see what your saying.  One would think that the Dutch would warm up to music from Holland and dancers clicking their wooden shoes :D

Has anyone seen that show Farmer Wants a Wife?  Mrs Klop forced me into watching this tonight and boy it was a hoot!

I lost 55 pounds over the past 11 months by doing the following:

Biking to work last summer, working up to doing it three or four days a week before the end of Daylight Savings Time made it impossible to continue.

Being an absolute miser over every single gram of fat in my diet. A friend of mine and both my parents were on Weight Watchers and I was aiming to consume even less fat than they were.

Watching my portion sizes. You'd be surprised how little food a grown person actually needs (at least when you have a desk job like I do). Chicken breast is relatively healthy for you, right? Still, you don't need two of them for dinner, or even one and a half ... or even a whole one!

No fast food at all, if I could avoid it. If I were out on the road covering games and had to eat in the car, it was Subway (no cheese, god no mayo), and a six-inch sandwich at that. A Whopper Jr. is 99 cents. I highly recommend the book, Eat This, Don't Eat That as a guide to what's reasonable to eat when you're out of the house.

I had started at 234 at the end of May and weighed 203 by the end of October. By the end of March I had lost the other 23 I was aiming for, despite not having my major source of exercise, by being careful over the holidays and taking up walking and/or stair climbing at work.

Don't eat your kid's leftovers, or your wife's leftovers, or snack off your wife's/girlfriend's plate when you're out to eat. Don't be afraid to take half your restaurant dinner home with you.

It requires significant lifestyle changes. You have to train yourself to not want those foods anymore.

For me, a mid-30s guy who works 15 hours a day during football and basketball season, I looked at myself in the mirror and at my three kids and realized I needed to make a significant change so I could be around for them as they went to college, got married and had their own kids.

Off the soapbox. :)

Finicky (spelling???) children, plus inheriting my parents wanting to not waste anything, added to my general like of food has made me a big time eater of my kids left-overs.  But I do know I need to stop eating those...I just find that one hard to do.

Pat, how many days until your preseason guide comes out???  ;D

Tentative date is Aug. 26. :)

Congratulations Pat. You are an inspiration. I'm guessing I'm shorter than you -- only 5-6 -- and I tipped the scales at 198 in January. By following many of the same patterns you suggest -- and I'm an Eat This/Not That fan -- I've dropped 40 pounds since. Most of the clothes I inherited from Eric Raeburn no longer fit!

the W news,
First a stadium, then a message board poster and now an indoor facility, pretty soon the Hoover name will be used around here as much as Hagemann.  ;D

"The Wartburg College Board of Regents has announced it will name the field house and track area of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hoover of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ames, Iowa.

The field house and track will be called the "Hoover Field House and Track" in gratitude for a leadership gift given by Gary and Donna Hoover."

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

With another month passing we are getting even closer to football season!

Lets move past the top 3 in the conference for a minute and talk about the remaining 6.  I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Wartburg, Central, and Coe will be expected to finished in the top 3.

What about the other 6.  How does everyone see the bottom 6 lining up.  There have been some coaching changes, teams that have lost a lot of seniors, and teams that might be ready to come out of the wood work.  I am also going to say that a team coming from the bottom 6 might challenge for a top 3 position.

Simpson, Cornell, and BV are all teams that either lost seniors, gained a new coach, or have young talent.  Simpson gained a new coach and has young talent.

Loras, UD, and Luther might be in holding patterns or looking at droping down a few notches, as in UD's case.

Does UD have a shot at claiming a top 3 position again?  Does Loras have a shot to finish in the top 5?  Is BV on the verge of tumbling to the bottom?

So here is my question.  Rank your bottom 6, and if you have reasons for that.  Also go out on a limb and pick a team or two who you think might suprise us all, either in a good way or bad way.

Simpson
Cornell
BV
UD
Loras
Luther

Suprise Team:  Cornell
I think they are going to win 3 conference games this year, and one of them will make our heads turn.  I see them winning both of their non conference games, thus making them a 5-5 team.

DutchFan2004

I like where you have Simpson at this point.  They have the most returning and can not see the fault of putting them at #4.  I can see some reasons for why you put Cornell where you did but to say that #5 will have only 3 wins is a stretch I think.  I think Loras or UD will fill this spot with the other team falling to #6.  I think the Spartans will have enough to fill some of the holes left by graduation.  Now comes Cornell then Luther and BV will be at the bottom.  BV has to replace a 4 year starter at QB.  I think they have a lot to replace and this is the year that Cornell gets them.  I also think with the new coach that Luther has to many holes to fill and with the new system will have some troubles getting past the Rams.  The Rams are my surprise team as I think they will have at least 2 conference wins with as many as 4.  They may even have a winning record if things go right for them.

As painful as it was to watch the Dutch highlights, I take comfort in the fact that it took three OTs to get past the Spartans!
