Doolitttledog ...

I noticed the name Nick Brautigam from Wahlert High School among the qualifiers for the Iowa State Track Meet in the 400 and two relays.  Is he the son of the UD head football coach ... does he play football ... and would he dare go anywhere but UD?

Coach has two sons, Nick and Zach...back in '05 I think Zack was part of the announcing team for UD games.  2 adults and then what sounded like about 10 year old.

Nick MIGHT go somewhere other than UD...but I can't believe it would be Loras  ;D ;D ;D

Maybe Brautigam can have his two sons play for him like Kirk Ferentz having 2 of his sons play for him at Iowa!!!

Looking at the UD website they are planning on naming the stadium Moco Mercer Stadium.  Along with Jon Davison court for basketball, and the Sol Butler indoor track.  They are also accepting nominations for other names for different areas of the complex.  I think that is a good idea to tie into the UD history like that.  Maybe after a "small" donation there could be the DBQ1965 press box  ;D ;D ;D

Edit:  After looking at the UD website http://www.dbq.edu/ChlapatyCenter/index.cfm

They are already planning on having the Don Birmingham press box...but that is for the football field...so maybe you could still get naming rights to the press area at the Jon Davison court!!!

Well FBdaddy for what its worth I did write a note to that email address regarding IIAC coverage.

I have not gotten anything back from them, nor do I expect to.  Seems kind of sad that they gave you such a brash response.

I guess they have better things to talk about like Pac Man Jones, Cedric Benson, or OJ Mayo.

Congrats to Wartburg Men + Women for winning the IIAC All-Sports trophies and the combined trophy as well.

Has everyone seen the front page story on Dutch punter Kurtis Brondyke (mentioning Guy Dieriks and the Sanger family)?? Nice highlight for some very deserving IIAC guys....

Yes. I don't think there has ever been a more dominating spring sports season for a school in the conference.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Thanks for doing that. If they get enough response, they will have to respond in some way. I would think a story like Brondyke's would be worth a little of their air time. And being from Central it won't break their travel budget to go and report on it.

And I didn't get that brash of a response, but that was the gereral idea of the replys.

FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Didn't know if anyone else was listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio this morning but he mentioned Wartburg in his story about USC's illegal athletes.  He said something like, " D3 athletes don't get paid.  When Wartburg plays Mt. Union in football this year none of their players will be getting paid."  Just thought that was interesting.

Does anyone else remember the days of the Register's Big Peach section? It was back in the day when the Register sent cub reporters to each of the IIAC football games every week. It's too bad that budget constraints have  upset priorities in the Newspaper Iowa Depends On.

That is nice to hear though that when mentioning D3 an IIAC school comes to mind for the host to bring up!!!

What would it take for the Register to have the writer from the local paper in each IIAC town do a little write up on the game and then use that as their piece on IIAC games???  Would that be possible???  I would think that would be a cheap way to continue to cover schools in the state.  I would also think that would be a bit better than relying on the SID of the home school supplying the usual drivel they have to put in their reports talking up their school.

Alfredeneumann

The 400 meter track duel between Suckow and Tyler Sherden @ the conference meet DIDN'T take place in the finals, both qualified for the finals but according to LC web-site Sherden  "did not compete in the finals due to a hamstring injury." Sherden did have faster qualifying time. Both are short in getting times for national meet.

I remember the Big Peach well.  Good coverage every Sunday morning on all of Saturday's IIAC games.  In addition, the Register always had an IIAC feature article on some piece of Conference sports (athlete, school, accomplishment, etc.) and Saturday morning also had a quick run-down on the match-ups for that Saturday's games.  Those were the proverbial "good old days."
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Hey DBQ1965, did Kurt Pasco follow you as UD chaplain???  And did you live in the house on the corner across from Chalmers Field and Cassat Hall while your were chaplain???  Just curious.

And all this talk about the big peach in the Register is reminding me of just how far down the Registers coverage has gone over the last 20 years or so.  With how poor the coverage is these days I wouldn't think it would be worth it to get the paper.  You might as well rely on this site and others to get your sports fix.
