Well, when I tried to copy the email posts I sent them into cyberspace.

The short version is that there will never be any IIAC coverage because no one asks for it, so quit asking for it.

Let's clog up their inbox a little: soundoff@whotv.com

Be sure to tell them why we want the IIAC mentioned and that the IIAC extends beyond Central and Simpson. Explain that many central Iowa athletes play for all conference schools and that they deserve some mention when they do something outstanding. Let's see if we can move the needle a bit.
I'd be surprised if 15-20 emails would increase IIAC coverage on a TV show or at the DMR.  Newspapers/periodicals are dying and not in the mode of spending more money to coverage more stories.  This is why you come to the d3___ sites, correct?

Obviously, the interest among individuals on this board for more IIAC coverage is high, but a lot of the Iowa population could care less about Central golf or Wartburg softball or even IIAC football or bball.  Think about how many individuals played football in the IIAC or are parents of current/former players, how many post on this site?  Not very many.  I'm just curious, anybody who isn't an alumni of an IIAC school/parent of player/former player post on this board?  I rarely check the IIAC bball board, but it looks like it gets very little action, even during the season.

I think the only way get more coverage would be to create a blog/website dedicated to IIAC athletics.  If there is truly statewide interest in IIAC athletics, it could be documented by page views or some metric websites use to monitor traffic.  Thank goodness for Pat the crew at D3football, otherwise where would everyone on here go??????

I agree that 15-20 emails won't make a big difference, but it would at least show that there is enough interest to at least give some scores. Obviously, I know where to get scores and info. I'm just thinking that with so many alums and fami;y members, that even a school's mention  should draw interst from those not normally in the loop like we are. If nothing else, a few emails wll maybe make it so when an IIAC supporter contacts the media we won't get the knee-jerk response. i think that's the problem, the media knows fans like us know where to get coverage, so they don't have to provide it. I feel that if the media just give some scores and information it will generate interest from the general sports fan.

If the point of your emailwasn't the following:

1) Other posters to email the above address
2) Complain about the lack of IIAC coverage
3) And get more IIAC coverage on the show or other places

I'm sorry and I completely missed the point of your email.

35...let me look.  Since I missed 34 yesterday...

34 - Most rushing attemps in a game.  Omer Moore vs. Upper Iowa, 1984.  34 - 231yds  UD won the game 28-7!!!

35 - Total IIAC titles for UD in all sports.  I know, I know, probably worst total in the conference...don't expect me to look up every school.  The 35 are...11 in track and field, 7 in mens basketball, 6 in football, 4 in mens tennis, 3 in mens golf, 2 in volleyball, 2 in mens cross country.

There was a great catch in that UD game.  Cam Waugh will be back and I would think that he will be used a lot with the loss of Smith and Huisman.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. My point is that whenever I've contacetd the media to ask for some reporting on the IIAC the response I get is that there is no demand for IIAC coverage. I was even told that high schools get more demand for coverage than Iowa colleges. I think that if those on this board would send an email, at least this particular outlet would know we are here. I realize it probably won't make much difference but at least we made ourselves be heard.

Let me see if I can muddy the waters a bit, and misunderstand a few statements.

FBdaddy writes an email to sound off asking for more coverage and gets a response back as that their is no demand for it.  So he asks all of us to write an email and show that their is interest even if it is just a few emails.

KCDutch then write that nothing is going to change so why waste the time.  Newspapers are dying, they are in a cost savings/restructuring mode so we are forced to take what we can get.

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing?  Someone sets forth a plan of action, no matter how silly you think it might be and it is met with opposition ???  How about instead of telling why this can not be done how about expanding upon what can be done? You make an effort with the blog site, but how could this be impliemented?

Lets face it boys the state of Iowa is getting more and more pressure from other states in regards to recruiting.  Take a look at the standout QB from Marshalltown this past season.  He is heading to SW MN State.  Lets ask for the advice of Knightlife on Winnon's efforts in the state of Iowa.  Lets take a look at UNO, NW MO State, Truman State, all have kids from IA on their rosters.  Shouldn't we band together and promote our state more than sit around give reasons why this can not be done.

Iowa is marketing the Chicago metro area right now as a vacation spot.  My first thought was are you kidding me.  But now I understand why they are doing it.  Wouldnt most agree that the likely hood of someone traveling from Chicago to Okoboji for a vaction is a bit of a stretch, considering its location to WI, MN, and MI?

But what I see the state doing is taking a chance, promoting themselves in a place where people might be underinformed about what it has to offer.  If they can get a small % of people to come to the state this summer that is revenue in the state of IA's pocket.  If they have a good experience they will tell others.  Thus more and more people heading to great lakes of IA instead of the great lakes of the USA.  More revenue, more tourism, more light on the state of Iowa.  More kids seeing Iowa, who will one day attend college (hopefully).  Then the door is open for them to choose a college in IA since they now for one know where it is.

My whole point in this rambling is that I find it a bit frustrating when ideas as shared with the betterment in mind only to be shot down or met with great opposition.

Just my opinion, I thought the point of the board was to give opinions?  Do many on here read a newspaper?  I'll go a newspaper's website occasionally, but I get most of my info from other media outlets.  Do kids read newspapers?  I don't think a blog/website is very difficult to start (cost or time) for most young/tech savvy individuals.  I think outside the box will work better than "clogging" an email box w/ a few emails.  I could be completely wrong......just my opinions.

When I looked things up I noticed a couple of things.  Schools seemed to dominate in a sport for a decade or so to then be replaced by another school for a decade or so.  Also, Luther, Wartburg and Central have a whole lotta titles in a whole lotta sports.

I also liked that when the IIAC split into north and south divisions Loras was in the north and Dubuque was in the south and the 2 schools pretty much never played each other.

TheOne89.1

I missed 34 yesterday, but they have to be mentioned...

Walter Payton and Kirby Puckett...retired numbers of two GREAT athletes.

It was not my intention to provide a response that could be viewed as trying to limit opinions.  I guess was and still am a strange duck.  I read the newspaper as a kid daily.  I still read the newspaper daily.  I hate TV and think most of it is garbage and news casters are given a predetermined motive and side to follow regardless of their beliefs.  Again I know I am a strange duck.  I just always viewed the written word much more concrete and two morons spouting out ideas on the Nancy Grace show.

I know most people could give a rats rear end about what the kids are doing in the IIAC because I would assume we did not attened IIAC schools for the chance at fame and glory.  I just personally really think the IIAC is great place for young people to go, play ball, and get an outstanding eduction.

Sorry for any feathers being ruffled.
