Sorry doolittle-My Wartburg math tells me that's 38. Close though

My Luther math added up the above total and got 48. :D  I also saw that B.V. won 4 IIAC titles in football and had 14 titles in baseball for a total of 53.  I only checked football because I remember them as having won titles while the baseball number was fresh in my head because they and Wartburg have more baseball titles since 1947 than Luther.  I have always thought of the wrestling team when I think of B.V. sports, but maybe it really is a winter sports school.  The baseball and softball programs used to be good back in the day though.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Yeah, well Coe and Cornell probably shouldn't count just yet since they have only been in the conference for about a decade.  Though I would count Upper Iowa and William Penn, like Floyd said, since they only recently left and were in the conference for many decades.  That is unless both those schools also are ahead of Dubuque...then I just might have to put Coe and Cornell in the rankings  ;D

Upper Iowa should have the slight advantage on William Penn just because of wrestling and football (back when Doc Dorman coached the football team), but I remember Upper Iowa always being awful in most women's sports.  William Penn had lots of inconsistent programs and I only remember baseball being good in the last 10 years that they were in the league.

Dubuque has a great shot at topping both of them.

I thought maybe you were just being nice to Doolittle. :)

And I counted 54  lets see where I am different from you...I counted really fast

14 - Baseball...14 titles between 49-81...nice 33 year run there
9 - mens basketball
8 - wrestling...all between 1980-1990
6 - womens basketball
6 - softball
4 - football
4 - mens golf
3 - womens golf

doolittledog

I count 30 for Upper Iowa

9 - Mens basketball
7 - Wrestling
7 - Baseball...I hear they are doing well in D2 in wrestling and baseball
6 - Football
1 - Mens tennis

Floyd was correct...UIU didn't win anything on the womens side of things.

Walston had different totals for the B.V. golf programs than you.  He had 2 for Men's Golf and 4 for Women's Golf.  From what I saw on the IIAC site for those 2 sports, it should be 3 for Men's Golf and 4 for Women's Golf for a total of 54.

Congrats on Dubuque being ahead of UIU!

Well at least our totals for BV are the same...even if we got to that number differently.

If it takes a FORMER member of the conference for Dubuque to be better than...I will take it  ;)

And I believe Dubuque is ahead of William Penn as well.

I come up with 27 for Billie Penn

8 - baseball
6 - womens basketball
4 - mens basketball
4 - football
2 - mens golf
2 - volleyball
1 - womens soccer

Floyd in Iowa City

I had the same numbers as Doolittle for UIU.

Here is what I have for Billy Penn:

8 - Baseball
6 - Women's Basketball (the first six years of IIAC Women's Basketball)
4 - Football
4 - Men's Basketball
2 - Women's Golf
2 - Volleyball
1 - Women's Soccer

27 Total team IIAC titles for Billy Penn.  Dubuque wins again!

William Penn did a great job recruiting (via sports camps) in the early years of women's sports in the IIAC.  They and Upper Iowa also did a great job of bringing in baseball players from warm climate areas inside and outside of the United States who had never seen the campus at either school.

Both of those schools were in the league for over 70 years.  I don't think there should be any asterisk put in that Dubuque is ahead of those schools or Loras.  I would allow Cornell and Coe a little more time though.

Let me see if I can muddy the waters a bit, and misunderstand a few statements.

FBdaddy writes an email to sound off asking for more coverage and gets a response back as that their is no demand for it.  So he asks all of us to write an email and show that their is interest even if it is just a few emails.

KCDutch then write that nothing is going to change so why waste the time.  Newspapers are dying, they are in a cost savings/restructuring mode so we are forced to take what we can get.

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing?  Someone sets forth a plan of action, no matter how silly you think it might be and it is met with opposition ???  How about instead of telling why this can not be done how about expanding upon what can be done? You make an effort with the blog site, but how could this be impliemented?
Just my opinion, I thought the point of the board was to give opinions?  Do many on here read a newspaper?  I'll go a newspaper's website occasionally, but I get most of my info from other media outlets.  Do kids read newspapers?  I don't think a blog/website is very difficult to start (cost or time) for most young/tech savvy individuals.  I think outside the box will work better than "clogging" an email box w/ a few emails.  I could be completely wrong......just my opinions.

It was not my intention to provide a response that could be viewed as trying to limit opinions.  I guess was and still am a strange duck.  I read the newspaper as a kid daily.  I still read the newspaper daily.  I hate TV and think most of it is garbage and news casters are given a predetermined motive and side to follow regardless of their beliefs.  Again I know I am a strange duck.  I just always viewed the written word much more concrete and two morons spouting out ideas on the Nancy Grace show.

I know most people could give a rats rear end about what the kids are doing in the IIAC because I would assume we did not attened IIAC schools for the chance at fame and glory.  I just personally really think the IIAC is great place for young people to go, play ball, and get an outstanding eduction.

Sorry for any feathers being ruffled.

I don't want to ruffle feathers either. I just thought if those on here who want to, would spend a minute to send an email. I know some others on this board have written to various media outlets and I think we've all got the same response- no interest=no coverage. I just though what if there was a concentrated effort, no matter how brief, to demonstrate that there is some interest. We all know how to find the information we want, but think how nice it could be to just watch the 10:00 news and see IIAC scores.

I think Walston has addressed this before, but Des Moines metro athletes don't want to think about the IIAC as a place to compete after high school. I think part is because of the absence of athletic scholarships, and part just from a lack of familiarty with the conference. A little media coverage would help recruiters by making the schools at least known when they talk to athletes. Heraing about the IIAC on TV and in the sports section can only help.

Loras took 30 years off from the IIAC between 1955-1985...and they still beat UD...and they have won a little in a bunch of sports.

I come up with 40 for Loras

9 - mens outdoor track
6 - mens basketball
5 - womens soccer
4 - mens golf
3 - mens soccer
3 - mens cross country
3 - womens outdoor track
2 - mens tennis
2 - mens indoor track
1 - womens basketball
1 - mens swimming
1 - baseball

That's it, I'm done for the day...I really need to get some work done now.  I'm going to need to work some more after we put the kids to bed because I goofed off on here too much today.  Good thing for home offices I guess.

DutchFan2004

I know that the kid from Marshalltown had Central's interest.  I get the impression (and no one came out and said this) but I think he wanted a scholarship.  From what I know he was the real deal and a good QB.  I think kids get it in their heads that if they don't get an athletic scholarship they aren't playing.  So for those kids they are not going to look at d3 schools they want the "paycheck" so to speak.

Edit:

That is their right to do also.  It is a shame that the whole division is looked down upon.  I am sure that MUC even has to fight that as well.
