Email sent to Wartburg students this morning-
Residents of Grossmann, Löhe & The Residence:

I know that you lived in Grossmann for a few years, but I find it odd that you're still getting emails as if you still live there 5 years after the fact.   ;D

Wartburg's student life staff always seems to get their panties in a bunch this time of year.  I would imagine that most students will be done with their May Term classes tomorrow or Thursday, and the vast majority will move out fairly quickly afterwards.  Typically, the only students left living on campus after the end of classes are those taking summer courses, graduating seniors, other students assisting with graduation weekend events, and those living in Waverly for the summer that haven't moved to their off-campus residences yet.  Definitely not a big logistical threat.

One of the stupidest end-of-year policies Wartburg has is that graduating seniors have to be moved out by the end of the day on graduation Sunday, which usually occurs during Memorial Day weekend.  Is it really that necessary for students to have to move out on Sunday, rather than a Monday where there will be nothing else going on?

Compared to some of the stories I've heard from long gone alums, the Wartburg students of today are incredibly well behaved and tame.  A friend of mine that graduated in the early 90s used to tell me about the year he and his roommate lived next door to two other friends and they knocked out part of the wall between the two rooms so they could party together.  He said they had to stick around campus for an extra day at the end of the year to replaster the wall.  That level of debauchery is pretty well unheard of to today's young uns.

wartburg graduates kinda late dont they?  coe usually graduates the 1st weekend of may

May Term/Play Term means late graduation.
SK-Lived in the Res for 3 years.
Those 3 dorms are the upperclassmen dorms so I imagine there may be some seniors trying to go out with a bang.
Probably no more throwing water balloons at passers by out the window (just trying to cool them off on a warm May Term day)
or climbing out on the roof to get a better angle
or betting your roommate that he couldn't scale the outer walls to get to the ground from your third floor suite. He did it by golly.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Sounds like they are maybe just trying to head off trouble then or have reacted to some trouble already.

SK the office staff wants to enjoy the holiday I am sure that is the reason they have to be out.  No one wants to work on Monday (Memorial Day)  I guess you can't blame them for that.

I heard a few good stories of a guy who played basketball at Wartburg in the early 90's (late 80's maybe) of the stuff they did while living in the dorms.  During winter break they would take the doors off their closests, clog the shower drains and block the entrance to the shower, turn them all on hot and a "hot tub" would be waiting for them one they returned.  Heys...maybe you this could be a new design you could market to the college aged crowd.

Do they still have the Kolhman (sp) Park Party anymore....or did that get shot down as well?   A few years back, a certain RA was instrumental in obtaining a few kegs (Pete and Repete) to help make life on Clinton One South a litte more entertaining.   There is nothing like being drunk and choosing to sit through a "Thumbs Lindell" American History lecture.

When I graduated the party had been moved to the softball fields just below the city golf course.  Hopefully they haven't done away with that.  There are some traditions you don't want to lose.  I will admit, Luther does have one up on Wartburg in that category.  Trout Fry is supposedly one of the best party traditions in NE IA.

I don't think the Kohlmann is as big a deal as it once was when some poster on this board were students. Before that the "party park" was "outfly park"/ North end of 5th street NW. Many May family get togethers were spent with my dad and uncle's on my deck watching student's play Beer softball.

With UD being picked on here to finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th in the IIAC, I think it will be a tale of two seasons.  Early on things may be a little rough as some new offensive personnel find their place in the overall scheme.  A semi-experienced senior QB may have the job in September ... but who knows who will be at the helm in November?  On defense, Mashburn leaves big shoes to fill ... but I have a lot more concern for the offense.

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Yes I have heard the Trout fry is a great event but the "management" killed one even better "coed naked soccer". :'(

Your insights are pretty right on IMHO.  I think that Jackson was a lot of UD's success the last two years.  Having said that though if the QB can make better decisions throwing the ball this year it may prove to be a big asset for the Spartans.  IMHO Jackson's throwing decisions were not always the best.  He got it done a lot of the time with his legs ie breaking down the d and then finding an open guy.  If you kept him in the pocket or if the d kept with the receivers during the scramble he was prone to make mistakes.  If the new UD QB can be half as good on his feet and 50% better with his passes I think UD can remain up near the top of the conference.

Of course there was the time we literally had a hot tub on the 3rd floor of The Res at the 'Burg.

I believe the e-mail from Res Life went something along the lines of..."While hot tubs may not specifically be banned in the student handbook, we hope you understand why we cannot allow them in dorm rooms..."

Speaking of hot tubs, there was a may term party about 10 years ago @ a house near Becker that campus security went to investigate, the officer who went decided all was OK, stripped down and jumped in the tub..... and was fired the next morning.

I was just going to bring that up. I remember seeing that a few times. One in particular when I dominated the 80 ounce challenge and set the world record (OK, at least Wartburg record) at the time of 54 seconds and NO PUKING. I thought I was going to and got to the trash can, but 1 big belch later and I was ready to go another 9 innings.

Now we know the Wartburg secret to getting the OL to put on weight.  You should be more careful with those weight training secrets  ;D ;D ;D ;D

A good friend of mine went to Luther and always raved about Trout Fry.  During our sophmore year myself and another mutual friend headed over for the festivities.  We had barely enough money to our name to even buy gas from BV to Luther but that did not matter. We packed a little food to cut down on expenses.  We bought a few packs of hot dogs and headed across the state.  It turned out to be one heck of an experience and one heck of a time.  It was worth the trip even considering we were dead broke.

The worst part of the experience was that we some people thought it would be cool to throw beer on us while we were sleeping.  The temperature dropped 25 degrees over night, and the rest of our hot dogs got stolen/eaten.  I woke up feeling like I was hypothermic and dying for a hot shower.  At that point in time it was determined it was time to head back to Storm Lake for a soft bed and warm mess hall food ;D
