The worst part of the experience was that we some people thought it would be cool to throw beer on us while we were sleeping.  The temperature dropped 25 degrees over night, and the rest of our hot dogs got stolen/eaten.  I woke up feeling like I was hypothermic and dying for a hot shower.  At that point in time it was determined it was time to head back to Storm Lake for a soft bed and warm mess hall food ;D

Better than waking up with a greasy a$$ and a quarter in your ear    :D

Seriously though, college debauchery, as a general rule is way down because old folks like us who engaged in it years ago now make the rules preventing such depravity.  The more we remember it the more we don't want our kids doing it.

Kind of like mandating seat belts for car driver/passengers and helmets for bicyclists or warning about drinking straight from a garden hose.

You can't disagree with the common sense of it but it still comes off heavy handed.

I went to UCSB for a couple of years and we used to have Beach Parties in our dorm suite rooms.

We'd bring sand from the beach into the room and wear grass skirts, coconut shell bras, and those silly grass hats. Girls all had to wear bikinis.  A keg in the bathtub and blasting the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean on the stereo.

It was horrible.  I never want to see my kid do that.    8)

You don't have to worry about JR doing that.  Cornell is a long ways from a sandy beach!

Not much can make me laugh out loud at work, but that just did!

Sandy Beach? Didn't she used to play basketball for Coe?  :D :D :D

FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Did the great high school basketball player from Mediapolis, Fonda Dix play college ball anywhere???

And for you non-Iowans out there...that is a real person!!!

footballdaddy

I know that she is a real person, I just hope she wasn't named after her father!

I thought his name was Harry.  :D

Actually PH, there was a "beach party" at Wartburg about this time two years ago right before I graduated.  The college had bought out a group of houses on the perimeter of campus and was planning to tear them down to make room for the "W."  So for the duration of May Term a couple of those houses became ground zero for drunken destruction.  The guys that lived in one house cut a hole in the floor from the second floor all the way to the basement and basically filled the basement and first floor with sand.  Good times, except it only got up to about 60 degrees that day, so there weren't as many bikinis around as some of us had hoped.

With as nice as the majority of the buildings are on Wartburgs campus, I would assume about the only place that one could destroy and not get into much trouble would be Clinton hall.

I remember teeing up on a 20oz bottle and lettin' it rip. I only wish I could remember the several nights I played a**hole with a bottle of Wild Turkey while living on Clinton 1 S. Too many good memories were created there

I came down from C3 South a couple times and witnessed that. First time I had seen a Turkey Call.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

My groomsmen bought me a bottle on my wedding day. To this day I can't smell it and not want to puke.

One of my best friends played basketball at Wartburg in the late 80's. I can confirm the shower slide and numerous other activities which would now involve Homeland Security in the investigation. Those guys were awfully good basketball players but even better partiers.

That's how I feel about tequila. Wild Turkey isn't much better, but I can at least keep it down.

TheOne and I lived up on Clinton 3 our freshman year, and we like to think that because of us they no longer allow men to live on that floor.  Even took the urinals out of the bathrooms.

So many stories from that year:  the time a starting football player got drunk and punched out a window screen in the bathroom and didn't realize he was bleeding until the next morning...taking an extra mattress and duct taping it up against the room where a couple of guys had made the grievious error of going to bed early...getting home from the bar and walking thru the door to the floor to find two naked drunk girls lying on the floor in a pool of sweat and ramen noodles, giggling loud enough to wake the dead.

SK and to think with all your AV talents you did not have the foresight to make that into a video :D  I assume it was the years in prison that would stop a man from doing that ;D

I can hear the opening of the video now: "Excuse me ladies, did someone call for a SportsKnight?!".
"If Rome was built in a day, then we would have hired their contractor"
