I was gone every night of the summer anyway calling a HS baseball game somewhere in north/central Iowa so I probably wouldn't have been a good fit to stay at school anyway.

Anyone know what college kids are making per hour at jobs during the summer right now? I was talking to a guy last night here in Ankeny that can't find a dishwasher for the summer and they are paying $10/hour!!! That seems like a ton of money to pay a dishwasher and they still can't find anyone to do it.

it was also a lot easier/more motivational for you to work out at school.  if you go home odds are you are the strongest in the weightroom, and it is harder to push yourself when you arn't seeing all the other guys with the gains they are making.

Well last year in Pella I think they had as many as 60 at workouts during the week.  If I can recall I think they had 45 last year that got jobs in Pella and stayed.  If I got the numbers right there will be between 30 and 40 staying in town this year and working out.  They work out three evenings a week, lifting weights and doing conditioning drills.

Central has a new major offered this year after work from df2k4 jr and a couple of other students.  There is a weight training major that will be offered this fall.  Jake Anderson is one of the best assests that the Dutch has right now.  He works very hard with all the athletes to get them into the best physical shape they can be in.  Do other schools in the IIAC have a strength and conditioning coach for their programs?

concrete pays around 11/hr maybe more, plus time-and-a-half for overtime, which you usally make a killing on working 50-60 hrs a week.

most jobs make around 8-11 unless you work at Hy-Vee then it's minimum

Yes, several high schools in the metro area do now as well.

Coe has one that works with all sports, when i was there he wasn't very good, but i've heard better things since.
Central has former Coe grad Pfantz working with Anderson as well i'm sure, he was going to take over the strenght and conditioning at coe before he left.

loras has one, former mr olympian i think.

If you have worked for Hy Vee in the past you usually start back at what your wage was when you left.  So if you have some years of experience then you are above minimum.

I typically earned between $5,000 - $7,000 dollars during the summer.  I never made it back to Storm Lake with all of it though.  Between weekend road trips, the family fishing vacation, and the investment into my hunting gear, it ate away and the profits.

I did not stay in Storm Lake during the summer, as most kids did not.  If they did stay in the area it seemed like Boji was popular choice either landscaping or working at one of the local tourist attactions.

We did not have a strenght and condition coach when I was at BV and I do think they have hired one to date.  I talked about this when I was their, and talked about it with former players to this date.  There is such an advantage having someone totally dedicated to strength and conditioning.  It sounds like Central has quite the commitment from the kids staying in the area over the summer.  That is great time to bond further with teammates and create a competitive edge.

WH...I love the idea of your OL mini camp.  What a way to bring the new kids into the program before the first day of camp.  I think we all would agree the first day is a lot of "deer in the headlights" look.  Just knowing someone by name could put a kid at ease.  I think about that now, and I wish I would have had the foresight to recomend something like that myself.

Football kid is making $7.75 hr. working for the city parks department basically mowing the parks and golf course. He could make more, but this job is flexible enough to let him come in late or leave arly for weightlifting. As far as summer workouts, Wartburg sends a workout schedule for players to follow. It's three or four days a week of specific workouts for each position. It is inspiring to see your kid dragging a car tire behind him doing sprints on a 98 degree day.

I have a part time job (saving to buy a house) at the Sports Authority, and I think we pay between $10-12. For what it is, it's easy for college athletes to do -- we pay people to sit around and talk sports and sports equipment all day. We tend to have a crop of Drake football players in our midst.

How long have you been working at SA?
Were you there last fall?
I had a player come in one afternoon and said they met someone who knew me at SA and couldn't remember the name but it started with "J". If that was you, it all makes perfect sense now.

I noticed the IIAC website lists champion and coy going back a nice even 40 years.  So I thought I would list conference titles going back the last 40 years.  We'll call that the modern era since 1968 was also the year I was born  ;D

Central - 21 titles...too many to list
Warturg - 8 titles...68, 82, 83, 93, 99, 02, 03, 04
Simpson - 5 titles...69, 88, 91, 96, 97
Buena Vista - 3 titles...72, 73, 78
Coe - 3 titles...02, 04, 05
Dubuque - 3 titles...78, 79, 80
Luther - 3 titles...70, 71, 78
William Penn - 3 titles...72, 75, 76
Upper Iowa, Loras and Cornell...goose egg!!!
