OK, the last time I had this much water in my basement was 1993. From the looks of things we only had to wait 15 years to have another 100 year flood.

F'daddy , sorry to hear about your mess. But if it's like it was in Waverly we had 2 - 100 year floods in 6yrs. '93+99 :-\

From what I've heard, people were trapped in the new Super Wal-Mart in Ames becuase the water rose so fast.

I can not believe Wal Mart built there.  When Hy Vee had a Save U More Story there it flooded out.  I was in Ames today not down Duff that far but it was a mess.  The intermural softball diamonds were flooded across from Jack Trice.  I think it is 4th street that leads away from the FB Field toward Duff was closed.  Stange was closed by the golf course.  Ames was a mess.  The water was almost up to Lincoln Way by Hilton.  I would not be surprised if Wal Mart customers are trapped.  Sorry to hear about the basement.  The sump pump in my basement has not shut off all day.  I heard we got 7 inches here in Marshalltown.

I think my freshman and super senior years at Wartburg were the only ones where Waverly didn't see at least minor flooding.  Up until the summer of '05 our student TV station advisor lived along the river, so I was usually one of the first to get the call when he needed help with sandbagging.  I think the worst I saw while in school was Graduation Weekend in '04.  River was almost up to the sidewalk in Kohlmann Park as I was leaving town.

Just back to CF from helping Walston and Knightlife06 with some of the clean-up activities in Parkersburg.  The damage is unreal.  The footage on TV and the pictures you see online and in the newspaper don't even come close to doing it justice.  I know its a bit of a cliche, but it does look like a war zone.

Most of what we did today was walking the "Sacred Acre" to pick nails, rocks, twigs, and various other debris.  Lots of big chunks of shingles in the grass too.  The softball field is still pretty rough, but there was a crew up there working to clear it too.  Because of how close it is to the school, there were big pieces of siding and choir risers that had been blown into the field.  Just unreal.

Coach Thomas is already starting to put some plans together on how to rebuild some of the bleachers and the pressbox and all the other projects that need to be done.  Sounds like they are going to be getting some help from the NFL, which has a pretty good "matching donation" program for such problems.  I'm sure it'll be a fairly emotional night come September 5 when they have their first home football game.  The only thing I'm more sure of is that the field will be ready to go.

SK or Walston- Will you be in P'burg tomorrow working? I will be down to help the golf staff @ east end of town. There are 2 HS f-ball teams due as well. The goal is to have a 2 or 3 hole loop open ASAP and entire course for July 4.

I will swing by the home of the employee of the W who must rebuild as well.

Just a reminder to everyone working clean up - tornado or flood PLEASE make sure your tetanus shots are current.

I likely won't.  Had heard that those nutballs from the Westboro Baptist Church might be showing up at the funerals of a couple that was killed in the storm.  But after being in town today, I wouldn't bet on it.  There are Staties and County Mounties at all entrances to town stopping cars to see why they were coming to town.  The minute those freakshows try telling a cop that they are there to protest a funeral, the cop will either laugh right in their faces or will tell them to get the eff out of dodge.  Or both.

So FYI AEN, make sure you know the name of the person you're going to help and directions to their house.  The cop today asked me what the address I was going to was.  I looked at him and said "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that house numbers and street signs are pretty well useless at this point."  He pretty much agreed with me, but still asked how I was getting to the house.

One more FYI...regardless of who you're there to help, stop by the church out by the high school and check in at the volunteer register.  You can just tell them that you already have a job.  The reason for that is Parkersburg is going to get X dollars from FEMA for every volunteer that comes to town.

Going to the doctor to get a tetanus shot is most likely why my dad is alive today.  In 1992 my dad stepped on a nail and my mom practically had to drag him to the doctor to get a tetanus shot because he couldn't remember when his last shot was.  While at the doctors office the doctor asked my dad when his last check up had been.  When my dad couldn't tell him he talked my dad into also having a physical while there.  It was during that physical the doctor found a lump and had my dad go on to Iowa City for more tests.  He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the earliest stages and the cancer was treated successfully.

So remember.  Keep your shots up to date and have yearly physicals.  It might not seem important and you might think you have better things to do with your time, but there is nothing more important than your health.

Are we under 100 days to Sept. 6th???

Nice to see another IIAC kid doing well.
"Iowa quarterback Joe Brannen threw for a season-high eight touchdowns. Brannen completed 24-of-38 passes for a season-high 342 yards."

out of curiosity, what kind of numbers did he put up at Coe when he was there?

Arena ball is crazy for a d-back.  I'm a little familar with the league since I had a try out with the QC team back in the day.  i didn't consider myself a "cover" guy to begin with, but it's damn near impossible with the rules to defend someone in that league. It's  impossible to play zone and when the WR gets a 10 yd running start you better get a jam on him and not miss or it's 6.
