Nice to see another IIAC kid doing well.
"Iowa quarterback Joe Brannen threw for a season-high eight touchdowns. Brannen completed 24-of-38 passes for a season-high 342 yards."

out of curiosity, what kind of numbers did he put up at Coe when he was there?

Arena ball is crazy for a d-back.  I'm a little familar with the league since I had a try out with the QC team back in the day.  i didn't consider myself a "cover" guy to begin with, but it's damn near impossible with the rules to defend someone in that league. It's  impossible to play zone and when the WR gets a 10 yd running start you better get a jam on him and not miss or it's 6.

started 3 years, all-iiac 2 years
Career Records--
896 passing attempts*
444 completions*
47 TD's (3rd)
6,407 passing yards*
1,140 total plays*
6,883 total yards*
6.0 yards/play (6th)

* Coe All-Time leader in that statistic
Would have been more if he played in Coe's new offense (he graduated the year before we instituted the new offense)

You left off that he was IIAC MVP in 2004

knew i forgot something, thanks

Hey boys and girls.  Been away for a while.  Glad to hear that there is progress being made in Parkersburg.  Looks like the Iowa spirit is shinning through!

Klompen...nice post about the wake up call.  I can not tell you how many times I have done the same thing.

What number are we on?  50?

Thanks, somebody dinged my karma for that, but I wasn't trying to be funny.  I was completely serious.  After so many times, it starts to be like chicken little saying the sky was falling.  Literally, I guess.  In Parkersburg the sky did fall and caused major destruction.  It was a deadly and destructive reminder that the warnings are issued for a life saving reason and instead of debating whether we should take them seriously, we should be thankful for all the times that we were blessed by missing the devastation.  Someone I know said that they do not and will not take a warning seriously until they "hear the train".  I understand not always immediately running for cover, but that's just nuts.

Anyway, Klop, I'm glad you knew what I meant, no disrespect meant to the people of Parkersburg, they probably saved a few lives of the people in Attica when a small twister went through there on the morning I was awakened by the warning.

Thanks for the updates, WH. I'm so happy to hear that progress is being made up there. Thoughts and prayers are with our old stomping grounds in NE Iowa.

Before last SUnday, a warning to me meant to go outside and hope to see something cool in the sky. Thursday night when watch came out, I was downstairs emptying out the closet for a place to go. Then I was up until 2 when the storms finally rolled through.
What some think was a small twister actually hit Aplington in that system Thursday night. Many trees in town knocked down and 2 farms west of town destroyed. Scary stuff.

I listened to the radion Thursday night to see if that tornado was going to turn North.  Went South of us around Laurel someplace.  Didn't hit any towns but to close for comfort IMHO.

All this tornado talk is making me all the more confident in my decision to rent a 3rd floor apartment with some rather large windows.   ::)  Next time a system comes through CF, thousands of people in this city will be huddled together with their families in their basements while I sit in my bathtub hoping that I don't go flying through the air at any moment.

Or you can go to the basement and hope the building does not fall on you ;D ;D ;D ;D

On a lighter note, it seems that Dowling Catholic is the home of Iowa best soccer hooligans after the athletic union witheld the trophy because the fans were on the field after the state championship game.

Your karma's up into double digits on the plus side.  How'd you ever manage that?

I likely won't.  Had heard that those nutballs from the Westboro Baptist Church might be showing up at the funerals of a couple that was killed in the storm.  But after being in town today, I wouldn't bet on it.  There are Staties and County Mounties at all entrances to town stopping cars to see why they were coming to town.  The minute those freakshows try telling a cop that they are there to protest a funeral, the cop will either laugh right in their faces or will tell them to get the eff out of dodge.  Or both.

So FYI AEN, make sure you know the name of the person you're going to help and directions to their house.  The cop today asked me what the address I was going to was.  I looked at him and said "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that house numbers and street signs are pretty well useless at this point."  He pretty much agreed with me, but still asked how I was getting to the house.

Are you fricking kidding me? Now those WBC people want to show up at a funeral for tornado victims? I'm amazed all those freaks haven't been shot yet. Having cops at the town entrances is a fine idea, just to keep vermin like them out.

I hope you dry out soon.

Purple Heys ... any high jump reports?

Update on Senorita Heys...

As last reported she had signed with Long Beach State.

She won the CIF-SDS Championship at 5'7" on the afternoon of the Prom!  CIF-SDS = California Interscholastic Federation - San Diego Section.

She went to the State prelims ranked #3 but alas she tweaked her back (  :-\ ) when she slipped on a jump and did not qualify for the final...finishing 11th in the state...5'11" won it...5'9" tied you for 2nd

Her best this year was 5'8.25" which was good enough for 5th in CA.  All in all a great year for her.  As I told her and any of the kids I ever coach.  Winning a championship at any level is a rare thing (unless you go to Central or Wartburg  ;) )

So many things have to go right to do it when only one thing can go wrong to stop you...so enjoy it when you can and keep competing for more.

She graduates with 10 Varsity letters...she had a great HS career.  We are looking ahead to college.

Heys Rev.3 has a lot to live up to...
