Were any IIAC players involved in this? Sounds scary.

When I played again Clarinda (that was before water was discover) most of the players were D1 players from Az and Cal.and some guys that played Pro ball, that for some reason didn't make it in the big league.  Let me tell you they were very good.

FYI - Hall of Fame member Ozzie Smith played in Clarinda 1975 + 76

Yes, I know he tag me out a couple time trying to steal second base. He wasn't doing flips back then. They also had a left handed pitcher that went to the Mets.

FYI for anyone that might stop by here yet tonight:  It looks like Iowa's in store for more severe weather tonight.  Tornado warnings out a couple counties south of Des Moines and severe t-storm warnings stretch from Bellevue to north of Ames to west of Denison to much of southwest Iowa.  Looks like the strongest line of storms is just moving into western Iowa and this system has been moving very slowly so far, which means it could be a pretty long night.

Ed Wilson on Channel 13 is going nuts. Batton down the hatches, boys and girls. He is comparing these storms with the storms that went through Parkersburg. I hope everyone stocked up on bottled water and batteries for your flashlights. Stay safe!

I don't know if I'd go that far if I were him.  While a tornado is a serious situation no matter where it sits on the EF scale, there doesn't seem to be any reason to think this system will produce an EF-5.

The cell that's around Truro right now is still producing a tornado, but the band of storms coming into Iowa from Nebraska hasn't produced a tornado since it was well east of Omaha, and as slow as this system is moving, that's about an hour and 15 minutes ago.  Heavy rain and large hail look like they'll be the bigger dangers tonight.

Water, water,  yes we do have water

The "100 year flood" of '93 is starting to get mentioned quite frequently. That must have been on the tail end of the last 100 years and this is starting the next 100 years  :-\

LOL - you don't think we worked out in August? We had 2-a-days in the heat, too.  ;)

liked august workouts about a trillion times as much as 2-a-days.  the lifting was never dreaded.  the running?  well you probably wouldn't be playing football if you actually liked running.  they have seperate sports for that.  but it was still better then 2-a-days.

My first exposure (coming from the dry, central valley of California) to midwest heat and humidity was August practice.  Those first days, I thought I would suffocate.

I always seemed to get that pit in my stomach about 4 days before I was set to leave for camp.  1/3 excited, 1/3 pissed off, 1/3 why the hell am I doing this ;D  But once the pads came on and the sun started scorching down, I knew why I was doing it.

I am also one of those sick bastards that likes the heat much more than the cold.  Smashing heads with two warm bodies is much more fun that smashing heads against two cold bodies.

I actually thought of you as I typed that.  I contemplated adding cheerleaders vs. leaving them out and waiting for what kind of response you might give it!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I always enjoyed that first practice in late September/Early October when you first felt that bug in the air. Leaves were starting to fall a little and crunched under your feet walking out to practice. Those days you felt like you could run forever and not get tired because it was so much fun being out there.

Everyone stay safe tonight. For the second time in just over a week, portions of the state of Iowa are under a "High" risk for severe weather. On average, only 6 times a year does this happen in the entire US.
An article on KcCI says that storm chasers are gathering on the western part of the state and a guy I talked to earlier whose wife is a meteorologist said they were all being called in to the station because they were expecting a long night.

That is one of the most true statements I have heard in a while.
