Talked to my parrents last night.  They live on the outskirts of Waukee.  Said their low lying land was completely flooded out.  Had some trees starting to loose large limbs as well.  They have large oak trees all over their property.  If high waters persists and high winds come, what are the odds these trees could become up rooted?  I am not arborist but I wonder what this type of weather does to the trees?

I hope that they don't lose them.  I think Oak trees are some of the most majestic and nice looking trees.

Water is a big problem down here today. Its all over the place. They are now talking about 3-4 more inches over the weekend. The annual Wartburg and One Simpson Alum Great Canoe Float Down the Iowa River (WAOSAGCFDTIR for short) may have to be put on hiatus if this weather keeps up.

Well at least you don't have to worry about the river being low and having to walk some.  You can float all the way! ;D ;D ;D ;D

But float to where ?????? ???

I think you could find a way to canoe most of Iowa right now. Through corn fields? Check. Over roads? Check? Streams that are out of their banks? Check. Most of Iowa is covered, it seems!

WH, is my orange clad former co-worker attending the WAOSAGCFDTIR? If so, tell him he owes me a beer.  ;D

My parents called us about 1:30 last night to tell us the tornado sirens were going off in town and that a tornado had been spotted in Clutier and that the storm was tracking our way.  We got the kids into the basement and waited there until 2am when the warning expired...nothing much happened here.  And to our surprise and relief...our kids actually went back to sleep after we brought them back upstairs!!! So we have that going for us  ;D

We had an overcast day with some slight drizzle on Tuesday, so we're feeling you.  It looks like we dodged a big one as we have had sunshiney days since then.

j/k...hope everyone is safe out there in Iowa.

Of course he is. He always brings the burgers for the camping. What would we do without him.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Starting to sound a lot like how the Coulee Region (SE MN and Western WI) was last summer.  Any reports of houses damaged by floods?  Flooding is so bad just because a lot of insurance companies don't cover flood damage.  Of course you are dealing with tornadoes and high winds where as that was not a factor for us.

Hope everyone and their families are staying dry and safe.

Of course if we hear reports of SK being flooded out of his apartment we KNOW Iowa is f'ed.

I take it he doesn't live on the ground level of his apartment building....

A few pages back he said he had a third floor apartment.  So if SK is flooded out the water is of Biblical proportions or a tornado flattened the place and there is a huge pond then.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

You can  float from the rugby field to the river.  ;D

I guess the Bucks won't be playing sevens this summer.

The Headhunters sevens tournament is in jeopardy.   A scrum in the mud is not so bad, but inches of water?  Someone could drown in the ruck.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Let's put it this way:  if my apartment floods, its probably too late to start building an ark.
