They had the flood gates closed saturday between University and Sargeant Rd.  That would be pretty hard to flood Gates golf course...but I guess I will say to never say never.

On a semi-IIAC related note.  The Telegraph-Herald has a story on Nick Brautigam getting DI recruiting attention.  Nick is the son of UD's Vince Brautigam.  http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=204779

I think I have a good idea what his "fall-back school" will be if D1 doesn't work out  ;D

Has anyone heard any scuttlebutt regarding a new commish for the IIAC???  It's been about a month since Cochrane left for Cornell hasn't it???

Central? In the article, he said he is looking for a team with a "championship culture," right? ;)

Gates Park or Gates Golf course is NO WHERE near University + Sargeant. The closest course is Byrnes AKA Irv Warren. (about .75mi) Those gates have often been closed since their construction in the 70's.

I thought Gates Park golf course was changed to Irv Warren Golf course at Gates Park???  Oh well, I am usually wrong.

Now that I think about it...that is Byrnes Park.  Is Gates Park over by the old Porky's???

Thanks Dutchie, for reminding me that Central is the power of the IIAC  ;D ;D ;D

Actually though, would an IIAC school think twice about bringing in the child of a rival schools coach???

I'm not even sure I would want to bring in a GA that just graduated from a rival IIAC school.

Too biased!!!  He'd start up rules like Cornell gets to play all games at home...all visiting teams must eat a blue/bleu cheeseburger basket at Chameleons 15 minutes before their game kicks/tips off...you know, things like that  ;D ;D ;D

NOPE. The gates close Fletcher Ave at University and near Hiway 63 is for Black Hawk Creek notorious for flash flooding. (North of Irv Warren).  Gates Golf Course has a small creek that comes from farm land north of Donald. It runs through parts of the west side of the course and then goes into lower Gates Park (East 4th + E. Parker)

Gates GC is the best muni in NE Iowa.

Having GA's/young coaches go to rival schools is not uncommon. There was a guy from Wartburg a couple years ago that 1 year out, went to BV to coach and his brother was playing at Wartburg.
At one point, 3 guys on the Wartburg staff were Cornell alums. (Willis, Tressel, and Mitchell) They've now got that number down to a much more manageable 0.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I noticed the Dubuque media guide showed a score from 1952 of Iowa Wesleyan 1 - 0 over Dubuque and decided to look up info on the game and found this tidbit...

1952

A football game was called because of the use of profanity. Francis DeReus, a referee in the Iowa Wesleyan vs. Dubuque game, stopped play when the Dubuque coach Moco Mercer became too profane. The official final score was Iowa Wesleyan 1, Dubuque 0.

I wonder how his tirade that day would compare to what officials have to deal with in todays game!!!

He went to St. Cloud State to GA and then to BV for a full time job.  Cornell has/had a coach who graduated and played for BV.  He might even be the DC their now.

Wow, just saw the new Spartan Scoreboard or should I say jumbo-tron! I must say I haven't seen one this nice at this level ever. Not that there aren't any out there but I just haven't seen one.......

The stadium is also coming along nicely. It appears the rain hasn't slowed construction. Not sure when the field turf goes in but I wouldn't want to be the guys digging out the old field (mud).

We'll be in Dubuque July 12th for my old frats summer picnic.  I plan on getting over to campus to grab some pictures.  I figure the webcam doesn't really do it justice right now!!!

And no truth to the rumor that Willie U was on the field for UD that day in 1952 that got called because of the UD coach yelling profanities  ;D
