I hope everyone comes out of this OK and gives due respect to whatever warnings and evacuation orders city and county officials send their way.  I have absolutely zero sympathy for some of these idiots you see on TV talking about how they stuck around even though they were told to evacuate and now they're (quite literally) up sh!t creek.  "Wull, we didn't think it were gonna git as bad as it did.  Derrr."

Breaking out the MN talk again, SK?

Saw a news report of a little town on the MN/IA border that was wiped away by flooding.  Dorchester, IA population 100 was hit hard with 9-10 inches of rain on Saturday/Sunday.  Sure enough, once the reporter said "The entire community suffered flood damage, but the Dorchester Trailer Court was the  hardest hit." you just knew what the next interview person was going to look like.  And yes, he had more fingers than teeth.

And the number of teeth probably surpassed his IQ. ;D

No stereotypes here!

How about a little football talk to think about while sandbagging?

It seems that Coach Lewis has taken a position at St. Cloud State. This means that Coach Detwiler will become defensive coordinator. To help the defense, Coach Koehler has asked Willis to come back as a defensive assistant. Koehler is also giving up day-to-day control of the offense, although he will still have overall responsibility. How's that for an off-season shake-up in Waverly?

Now that is big news!!!  Former coach coming back to be an assistant.  An assistant leaving for the same school the former coach was a finalist for getting the recent HC opening.  And this all comes pretty late in the year.

Here is something for the numbers game we were playing...

I think we need to be careful.  It sounds as though Willis was asked to come back and be a coach, but has not comitted to this.  Thanks for the information daddy.  That is a shake up.

If BV were to flood, it would take some pretty high waters coming out of Storm Lake.  There are other places around the lake that might flood, but I can not see the campus being affected.  The back part of the field house MIGHT under some terrible conditions see the water creeping up, but I doubt it could make it that high.

Isn't the lake right off Bradford Field? Maybe I'm picturing it closer than it actually is.....all I remember now is cold November winds coming off the lake during games....

From the letter sent to the players, I believe that Willis is a done deal. They are also trying to move Winter to a DB coach.

What's the latest AEN?  I just got emailed a rumor that the water is to the OP in Waverly now.

Also, Go-Knights.net says that today's volleyball camp is off, but Saturday's setter camp is still on as of now.

They tell you that you can throw a football into the lake from the field.....If you John Elway.  The wind does come whipping off the lake some kind of brutal in the late wall/winter.  But it is quite a ways to the actual lake.  The is also a drop to get to the down to water level.

If you want to see a field that is on a lake, take a look at Bemidji State's football field.  I played up there as a freshman late in the season.  Thats what you call cold.

Wartburg College Release
Notice to the Wartburg College campus community

From: The Wartburg College Cabinet

June 10, 2008

In response to rising waters and continued flood concerns, Wartburg College initiated its emergency response plan this morning. As per the emergency response plan, Vice President for Administration Gary Grace has assumed the role of emergency director during this current crisis and will serve as point person for all on-campus queries into this matter. Communication and Marketing will remain the primary media contact for off-campus queries.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Highway 218 Cedar River crossing at Janesville may soon be closed. Any nonessential employees affected by this possible closure should feel free to leave as soon as possible.

The college has no plans for the time being to close campus or cancel classes, and we believe it is important to keep offices open. However, no one should put themselves in danger to get to work or attend class. If you have concerns about your safety in traveling to and from campus, please work with your immediate supervisor or professor to make arrangements. To monitor road conditions, please continue to listen to radio updates on 99.3 FM or check the Cedar River Flood Warning Notice at http://www.waverlyia.com/. Student Life is also working to keep the Information Desk open and provide it with up-to-date information.

This weekend's Northeastern Iowa Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Assembly, scheduled to take place on campus, has been postponed. Please monitor the campus calendar at www.wartburg.edu or contact the Information Desk (extension 8200) with questions about events.

Our thoughts and prayers go to faculty, staff, students and others affected by the recent flooding. If you are aware of someone from the Wartburg community in need of any sort of assistance in response to the flooding, please let your supervisor know. Supervisors, please contact Cathi Duitsman extension 8276 to let her know of anyone from our community in need of our help. We will continue to work with all available agencies and resources to provide assistance when we are able.

Campus buildings remain in good shape, with minor damage to lower levels of Centennial Complex and the Manors residence halls. Damage has not occurred in student living areas, and we don't anticipate any such issues. Please report any concerns about campus buildings to John Wuertz, director of the Physical Plant, at extension 8318. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify the campus community of any changes through the use of mass e-mail and www.wartburg.edu.

We also ask that you conserve water during these trying times as a matter of good practice and in an effort to assist the larger Waverly community.

As time progresses, we will continue to work with the City of Waverly and the American Red Cross to monitor the situation and provide assistance. You may already be aware that the Red Cross asked us for the use of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center, or The W, as a place to house those displaced by flood waters. The W housed 44 people on the evening of Monday, June 9, and was equipped for 50. The Red Cross moved in an additional 50 cots and will now be able to house a total of 100 people. The W is closed for recreational use until further notice and will remain open only for Red Cross use. If you have any questions, please contact my office at extension 8276.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the first time the  ERP has been put into effect.  Its the first time I can remember anyway.

From what I have heard Willis isnt formally on the staff, he may just serve as a consultant.

KWWL just said that Waterloo's mayor is ordering a number of downtown businesses to close.  Now 4 bridges over the Cedar in downtown Waterloo are closed (Mullan, 4th, Park, and 11th).
