Thanks Walston - I usually go to 31st since to the in-laws since they are west of the Gov's.

I just saw this blurb on DM Register site.
Coe College students moved to Cornell
Posted    6/12/2008 4:35 PM CDT
Coe College in Cedar Rapids closed because of the flood, and students were transported to Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Coe is expected to reopen on June 16.

I tried to hit Coe web-site and got nothing so they must be powerless.

I don't remember but were there any "hell or high water" clauses in O+B Attach's wedding vows ???? :D

Klop,
I-80 will be closed East of IC tonight
http://www.press-citizen.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080612/NEWS01/80612020

Klop, your best bet might be to take the Kennedy Expressway out to Rockford and bring US 20 over through Dubuque to I-35 and drop down from there.  It'll be a bit out of your way, but its four lane almost the whole way and you shouldn't have to worry about any road closures.   Judging by the PC article, that's where the detour would send you anyway.

Thanks for the information.  I was hoping to run 55 to 80.  I spend most morning on the Kennedy and could use a break from its nasty traffic!  But oh well whats one more morning.

Coe is right at the edge of the evacuations for the "500-year flood plan".  They should be safe, but the baseball field could be damaged, as it is a couple of blocks from campus and on lower ground.  Coe is probably on to high of ground to be affected, unless by sewers backing up, which is a very strong possibility all over CR.

Physical Plant could get flooded at COE, but Eby and Armstrong/Douglas are too high up the hill.  The two telephone poles my roomate took out behind Eby driving back to Green Hall from Shrub's Club in 1990 will be under water.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Coocoo
I just saw on KGAN  crawl that Coe is closed due to power out. I guess I forgot about lower buildings.

What's coming down the Cedar River from C. City

Nation Weather Service Warning
@921 PM CDT THU JUN 12 2008
THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR  THE CEDAR RIVER AT CHARLES CITY.
* UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE...OR THE WARNING IS CANCELLED.
* AT 7 PM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 13.5 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AND MAJOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 12.0 FEET.
* THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE RISING WITH A CREST NEAR 21 FEET EXPECTED FRIDAY EVENING.

The 1999 flood level in C.City was 22.81' so Waverly should be under the '99 level as well. They say it takes 24 hrs for waters to reach Waverly from C.C.

Also the W will allow Waverly outdoor swimming season  pass holders to use the pool free of charge and will charge the city rate to use the pool until city outdoor pool opens. Maybe until the end of the month.

Its very good of the W to provide that service for people, but I gotta say that if there's anyone thinking about where/when their going to go for their next swim with so many other issues going on, they probably ought to get their head examined.

But if you have a family with a few school aged kids, getting them to the pool to blow off some energy is not all bad. Also if Mom or Dad can drop off and get some work done w/out kids is sometimes helpful, because the "electric babysitter" (TV) is not available at some homes.

And until the river crests again there is only so much you can do without having to do again.

The city has asked people to STOP moving flood damaged items to curb so it doesn't get washed away on the next crest.

That thought didn't occur to me until just after I hit the "Post" button.  Fair point.

FYI...
When you guys and gals say your prayers tonight, throw in an extra one for everyone in my hometown of Cascade.  Sounds like 6 inches of rain fell just north of their this afternoon and its doubtful that the dike is going to make it through the night.  The downtown are is being evacuated right now.  If the levee does fail, that means that Cascade High School, the local Catholic Church, the Post Office, and any number of homes (including my grandmother's) will suffer flood damage.

coco

We're saying prayers for the whole state. You people have suffered enough.

While you've had rain, we've been getting snow in the mountains here, so we may get our share of flooding (again) once we warm up enough for that to melt. Maybe along about August.

Warty, I hope that little watering hole on the Mississippi makes it through this week okay, and you and your family as well.

Stay safe, all you guys, and Dutchie.

Is there something happening @ Central? It seems there has been a high turnover in coaches since Al D arrived back in Pella as AD. Am I incorrect in that?

Maybe it seems that way since WC has been blessed with minimal changes over the past decade.

I think he's talking Central Athletics as a whole. I know of new MBB and WBB coaches and obviously McMartin. I think a new wrestling coach as well. I don't know if that's high or not. I think up to the last 5 years, a lot of those coaches had been there for a while hadn't they?
