USA Rankings were out and Central was put in at 14 and Wartburg at 17.  No surpirse as MUC was #1.

USA Today Sports Weekly. (Hey, they paid me to write it, I might as well make sure the publication gets credited.)

Link?  Shameless self-promotion is not necesarily frowned upon when we all benefit.    ;)

The preseason magazine isn't on the Web for me to link to. I should probably post it in the blog.

I'll be in Dubuque eventually. Not making too many commitments on football yet since there are 11 weeks and about 30 schools in the area I've never seen. I'll have to see what the schedules look like.

I use E-85 pretty religiously.
Costs about 75% as much as 89 Octane and gets about 90% of the mileage of it. When you are driving 20-25000 miles a year those savings add up. I don't know if overall its better or not, but as an old guy I hang out with likes to say "I don't care if it costs twice as much, if it keeps the money out of the hands of the terrorists, sign me up/"
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Pat Coleman

Kinda why we bought a hybrid when gas was $2.80 a gallon, even though we might not have saved money over the life of the car.

Now it works out both ways.

I am one of those people who actually switched to 93 octane when gas prices started to rise.  I drive 2,500 miles a month.  When I ran the numbers, I get an extra 1/2 to 3/4 of a day out of my tank over 87 octane.  I am spending more at the pump, but I am at the pump less.  I am sure this is total and complete nonsense, but it works for the time being.

I'm paying $4.07 here in Sterling, Va.  :-\

$3.87 in CR.  It will probably be $4.00+ this weekend.  It jumped 13 cents over Memorial Day.

You know the oil people see this week-end as great way to make more money. Up fast down slow what a racket :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

It hit 3.89 for E10 and 404 for regular here in Marshalltown yesterday.  I filled up in Newton while out working on E85.  Bought an Impala flex fuel because of Walstons reasons.  I thought might as well keep that money local for the farmers producing corn.  Might even lessen the money the government pays the farmers if prices are high enough.  Also if I can keep the money from going to terrorists it is a bonus to me as well.

Pat ... would love to know when UD gets on your schedule.

Gas is $4.17-$4.19 around Grand Rapids, except for $4.07 at Costco the last time I filled up.

I've been a U of Illinois fan ever since I came to the midwest in 1961 ... the days of Butkus and Grabowski.  My wife is an Illinois alum ... but its a long drive to Champaign-Urbana, so I only get to Memorial Stadium when game day coicides with a visit to my father-in-law in Peoria.

Living in Michigan, I managed to get to one U of M game at "The Big House."  I think games there are a hassle because fans are packed in tight ... parking space is at a premium (or premium price) ... and too many Wolverine fans act as if every striped shirt is out to get them.  The situation around Spartan Stadium in East Lansing is better ... and only an hour from Grand Rapids.  I've been to two games at Notre Dame and that is a great experience ... a wonderful combination of history and tradition and atmosphere.  But still, its all expensive.

The ambience of big time college football is great ... but for value, there is nothing to match the "up close and personal" experience of D-3 football.  I need to make the drive back to UD more often than I do (its about 8 hours and in a different time zone) ... but in the meantime, I try to catch Hope College and Olivet College whenever I can.  I wish the MIAA and the IIAC could set up some kind of regular inter-conference play, but I doubt that will ever happen.

67 days 'til kickoff.

Gas prices ;D

My 08 Silverado gets me 16mpg in the city which is way up from my old one which was 11 or 12- Luckily I don't drive it too much and fill it up every week and a half or so.  Last time I did the math my wifes car got about 26mpg running on 91.

Over the last few months the business bought 4 new delivery cars- Chevy Aveo's absolutely amazing gas mileage and they were around 8g's brand new. Can't beat that for what we use them for.

Central plays at Albion on the 27th of September.  I don't know how far that is from GR but it is in Michigan.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  Did you attend the Hope Central game last year?

Willie University

I am pretty much toned into my fantasy baseball team right now to help pass the dog days of summer BUT.......the further along they get on the construction of the new Spartan stadium, the more excited I get for the football season  ;D

Don't get me wrong, I don't want summer to pass by too quickly but once Aug 1 rolls around, my mind begins to switch into football mode....

I highly suggest that if you are planning any road trips in the IIAC this season, you include the University of Dubuque as one of your saturday stops, no predictions yet on the Spartans with losing so many seniors but trust me, the Stadium is well worth the trip! WOW, wait and see.

Hey Willie, will they be allowing tailgating in the parking lots this year at Dubuque???

Or will we be having beers at the Dog House pre-game???

And how is the new basketball construction project going???

My wife and I will be at the Rockford game and my dad and I are thinking of getting to either the BV game or possibly the Cornell game.  Haven't made up our minds yet other than the Rockford game.

DutchFan2004

Not sure that a home UD game is on the radar this year for me as Central does not go there and Dubuque is the one of the farthest points to attend an IIAC game but I will be there next year for sure if the good Lord is willing and that creek over there doesn't rise.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  I think that will be a good place to play and visit.

Here's a good website for all you gas price bargain hunters.  Type in your zip and it lists the gas stations with the cheapest prices.  Here in CF/ALO it looks like the Flying J in Evansdale is where I'll be filling up Thursday night.  $3.75 out there as opposed to the $4 you can find near the two local malls.
