My wife and I marked this down on our calender tonight.  Tonight is the first night since we had our first child 6 1/2 years ago that we sat down for dinner and ALL of us ate the same meal!!!  No baby food, no mac and cheese, no grilled cheese sandwich.  All 5 of us ate the meal my wife prepared.  Pasta, cheese bread, cottage cheese.  It's a miracle.  Now if we can just get the little guy potty trained by September we will really be doing well.  We have just under 70 days to do this!!!

A hearty +k for that posting.  The first family meal.  It is a good memory.  My wife marked it with a minor celebration when our third finally caught up as well.  (And the old grilled/toasted cheese sandwiches... how did kids grow from 18 months to 30 without them?)

Countrytime Lemonade has been mixed up for the summer. Football season is just around the corner.
Boy I love me some Countrytime!

I love Countrytime as well.  Except my wife makes pink countrytime because my girls think its pretty.  I suppose I am secure enough in my manhood that I can drink the stuff.  ;D

That is great. I made my son his first grill cheese sandwich this week (16 months old), I tried cutting half of it into small pieces to give to him but he wasn't having any of it. He saw me eating my sandwich and of course, wants to be a big boy like dad so I gave him the other half and he ate away, one little bite at a time. By the way, I have him in training right now and make sure he gets a well balanced diet with a good balance of protein, good carbs, fruits and vegetables and am working on agility and running/throwing/kicking  ;D It's never to early to start, is it?

Better be carefull Willie and not let out too much about how well he is doing or the Central and Wartburg fans on here will start their recruiting pitch about coming to play for a winner.  Of course 16 1/2 years from now when your little one is making his college choice Dubuque might have half a dozen IIAC championships under their belt and 2 or 3 deep runs into the playoffs...maybe even a Stagg Bowl or two!!!

And by the looks of the UD webcam it looks like they are starting to put the track in today.  So I would guess the field turf shouldn't be too much longer as well.

Dog I must say I do love your optimism about the future of UD football.  It will be a sweet day when UD, Cornell, and BV break through and finally see post season action.

Well, a sweet day for us anyway.  I do find myself getting greedy now and wanting to see some title runs out of UD.  A couple of years ago and I was just wanting to see UD become something like Luther, BV or Loras...always around .500  Maybe not winning championships but at the same time not a bottom feeder.  Now I guess I want to see at least 2 or 3 title runs per decade with the other 7-8 years finishing in the top 4.  With their new facilities and their recent winning form I hope they can take that next step up.  We shall see.

BV plays @ UD this year Klop, with you living in Chi-town that might be your best bet to see your alma mater in action this coming fall!!!  Of course by then you might have become a big fan of the Chicago Fire and spend most of your saturdays standing in section 8 at Toyota Park banging a drum and sporting a newly inked Fire logo on your arm.  ;D

Coe will have the younger Staker kid coaching by then and he might be one hell of a recruiter.  Who knows what the IIAC will look like by then.  It will be fun finding out though!!!

Dog the comment about the Fire is karma worthly!  +k to you ya.  I got a great laugh out of that, but the odds of that happening are slim to none.  The odds me going back to a game are good, but I do not think section 8 will be in my wheelhouse anytime soon.

I believe that I will be making the trip over for the BV vs. UD game.  I'd like to see the new facility that UD is sporting, it have seen a game in two season now, so I am about due for a IIAC contest.

Kohawk Remedy

I love Iowa Football, walking down Melrose on a Saturday weaving through thousands of fans dressed in yellow looking like a swarm of bees, smelling the bbq and hearing the guy yelling "get your big @ss turkey legs!".  I have never been to a more complete atmosphere of college football.  I can still remember my first time walking into Kinnick, I was a sophomore in high school, which doesn't seem that long ago.  It was my first college game, and I had never seen Kinnick before.  I felt like Rudy walking up the ramp and looking out on the field.  My friends and I even sat first row in the vistors stand since it was general admission and enjoyed one hell of a game.  It was such a great signt that I even bought season student tickets when I was a senior in high school (thanks to a buddy that made me a fake student ID...which I might add worked like a charm)  Sitting in the old student section was a great time and I was even there when Dallas Clark caught and ran for 80 some odd yards for a TD...the place irrupted!  For those of you who have never been to an Iowa game...I encourage you all to experience the thrill (especially night games) of sitting with thousands of fans all wearing gold and yelling I-O-W-A after each TD...nothing is better.   Although it is a great atmosphere, I enjoy being at Coe games cheering on the Kohawks including some that I know, and knowing you were once in their shoes and enjoying the greatest times of your life.  GO Kohawks!

warthog

I guess I'm going against the grain here.  I hate University of Iowa football.

1) Until the recent renovations, Kinnick Stadium was "expanded" by simply narrowing the seat lines.  It is way too crowded especially later in the season when people are wearing coats.  You have a 70,000 seat stadium designed for 50,000.

2) Parking is awful.

3) Fans are rude and mean spirited.  Example: One of our friends is a local attorney.  In the past he would allow the university to use his plane to ferry basketball and wrestling coaches around on recruiting trips.  As a result his Carver tickets are right next to the locker room tunnel.  Even though he got his MBA at Iowa and he is an Iowa fan he attended law school at Drake.  When Drake dropped D1 football you may remember they had a last season game at Iowa.  Our friend decided to wear his Drake shirt to the game.  I've never seen such pricks as the Iowa fans that day.  They knew the Hawks would win, it was a name the score type of game.  They threw things at us.  They intentionally pushed and tried to pick fights.  Even though the Little Warthogs were with us, the Iowa fans used language any decent person would refrain from using around little kids.  It wasn't just a couple people it was large numbers of them.  I never saw anything like it even at Iowa/Iowa State games.  I figured it had to do with the fact that you would norally have enough Cyclone fans around that some of the loud mouth pricks would think twice about their behavior.  That day, with just a few Drake people around, there was no such restraint.  The thing that is amazing is that the "Iowa Fans" had no idea they were being pricks to one of their own.  By the way, the University of Iowa no longer gets the use of his plane.  They still assign him Carver tickets by the tunnel and try to get him back in the saddle, but he can't forget the Drake game.

4) Iowa fans are for the most part Johnny Come Lately.  90 percent of the idiots who walk around with black & gold Hawkeye shirts and shouting "Go Hawks" never finished hgh school and have no concept of the history concerning Iowa Football.  Sometime for the fun of it ask a typical Iowa fan, "Who is Nile Kinnick?"  Over half will tell you Nile and Kinnick were the two guys that gave most of the money for the Stadium.  If they happen to get the question right, ask them about Alex Karras, Bobby Jeter or Forrest Evechevski. (sp)

I guess my biggest beef is with the typical Iowa fan.  Maybe it is because I'm living right in the middle of so many of them, but they just make me shake my head.  Perhaps the Iowa fans aren't familiar with a winning tradition and they just don't know how to win gracefully.  Perhaps since we don't have  pro football the idiots gravitate to the most visable college team.  For what ever reason I find it easy to hate the Hawks because of the people that love the Hawks.

I suppose the same could be said about the typical Wartburg fan.  :o

Easy with the generalizations there Warthog.

My first game at Kinnick stadium was the UCLA game in 1981.  The Hawkeyes last winning season had been 1960.  The Hawks were sitting at 1-1 and coming off a loss to the Cyclones and the stadium was packed to the rafters...people sitting in the isles.  That to me is a loyal fanbase and not a bunch of johnny come latelys that only follow a winning program or know nothing about the history of the team.

I agree, the stadium can be cramped, there can be some foul mouthed fans (I've never taken a poll but I suspect more than 10% of them have a high school education)...but you will find that at almost any college stadium on a saturday afternoon.  It just depends on your view of things.  Last year you had Dubuque fans saying they thought Central fans were obnoxious and at the same time you had Central fans saying the Dubuque fans were obnoxious.  Who was right? Both??? Niether???

I have a bit of a limited experiance but I can say the atmosphere at Iowa games as far as tailgating and stadium experiance is superior to what I have seen at ISU, UNI, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Mizzou and K-State.
