Wow!  Nothing like picking on the Hawks and suggesting we consolidate small high schools to get a little conversation going on this board.  I'm two for two getting folks cranked up over my recent postings.

Perhaps next time I'll suggest human sacrafice.   :o

Incidently Dutchster, most of us on this board are friends even if we have never met.  On occasion some of us are prone to exaggeration (ie: 90% of Hawkeye fans aren't high school graduates).  We also like to razz one another and brag about our favorite team.  When all is said and done we have remained friends and many of us have had enjoyable times when we have had an opportunity to meet one another at various IIAC locations.  As a result of being friends we don't find it necessary to use the tone or type of language you used in your last post.   :)

Dutchster,

I take offense at your insult to my friend Warthog. I'm from the NWC board, but I read this one as well, as I like the IIAC and the people here. I've met some of them in person, and am proud to call them my friends. Warthog is an elder statesman of this board and highly respected. You appear to be pretty much a newbie.

Normally people are free to express their opinions here without being subjected to the crude dressing down that you gave Warty.

My opinion only. Your mileage may differ.

You gotta be more specific.  Which humans?

Happy Early Independence Day to everyone.  I hope the weekend greets you all with many cold beers and family/friend functions!

i would have to say, with a certianty, that there is no way Lames and IS(who?) stacks up to any SEC tailgates (except for MAYBE Vandy).  There just isn't the following at IS(who?) then at teh SEC schools.  It's pure math.  More people generally make a crazier (which usually means more fun for us whippersnappers) time.  As for the comment about Iowa and student fans and leaving the stadium at halftime of the WMU game, i understand.  the team put an inferior product on the field all season, and the fans were just tired of it. <-- same reason IS(who?) doesn't have a great following.  Except for the years with Seneca, they have been pretty down... losing to UNI once, and comming very close two other times.

on a side note, i could see IOWA pulling an IS(who?) and going 6-0 only to loose the next 6 or 7 games in a row.

Well said by warthog, we can get into some heated debates but at the end of the day we pretty much all get along and are friends on here.  Many have actually tailgated together over the years.

All of us have our reasons for liking the teams and schools we do.  Doesn't mean we can convert everyone to our way of thinking.

Now, with DF2K4 having a son that played tennis at Wartburg and another son that played football at Central and that making him a fan of both schools.  We need to try to direct his grandkids to each of the other IIAC schools just to make his head explode trying to remember which school he should be supporting at any particular sporting event!!!  ;D

I'll be in Dubuque eventually. Not making too many commitments on football yet since there are 11 weeks and about 30 schools in the area I've never seen. I'll have to see what the schedules look like.

Hmm, there being 18 D3 schools in Wisky and 12 D3 schools in Minny.  That leads me to believe Pat isn't planning on making it to the Hawkeye state too often!!!  ;D

I've got some friends who have had Iowa season tickets since Hayden Fry was coaching in Texas. Those are true Hawkeye fans. Most of the rest I've met (notice I said most) seem to be more of the fair weather type. I distincly remember a lot of them calling for Brad Banks head at the start of a season and hyping him for a Heisman at the end. My take is that if you're a true fan, you support your team no matter what.

As far as tailgating, maybe I'm old fashioned, but I go to a football game to watch football and I go to a bar to drink. I find my gameday experience more satisfying if someone doesn't puke or pass out next to me. Not to say that I've never enjoyed a beverage or two before a game, but it's never been the reason I go to a game. I've enjoyed several tailgates in Ames before games and I'm always impressed with the buses, motor homes etc. that are there. I've not had the opportunity to tailgate in IC but i don't think you get the same type of participants there due to space constraints.

Maybe that's why DIII is so attractive. The fans like to have fun before and after the game, but they don't forget why they're there in th first place. It's all about the football.

Sorry about the bold thing. I'm developmentally disabled as far as writing goes!

Oh and Duchster, I'd like to suggest you do the same, but since your head is already there it would be impossible.

Wow...you are old enough to have attended a football game between Drake and Iowa at Kinnick, but still managed to post something that sounded like it came from a bitter junior high kid making generalizations based on a bad experience.  Sorry, I usually try not to be a "mean spirited prick/idiot" as you would put it, but for you I can make an exception.  Stick it in your ass!

Good way to back up Warthog's point...a reply like that really sounds like something a "prick/idiot" would say.

However...I still want to give you the benefit of the doubt Dutchster, I am sure you are an alright guy who just took a little offense to what was said about Hawkeye fans.  I'm guessing Warthog doesn't think every single Hawkeye fan is that way.  But one really bad experience can have you second guess.  I'm sure he is good friends with some Hawkeye fans, just like I am good friends with Packer fans.  For the most part I can not STAND Packer fans...but outside of Sunday football, they are great people (right AEN?).  Just like they don't like me during Cubs games...but outside of that we get along very well.

Take all comments on here with a little grain of salt...posting comments on here like you did will only make others think poorly of Central fans (I assume you are a fan with "Dutchster" as a name) and those outside of the conference think poorly of IIAC fans.

Wow, disappointing to see a Dutch fan being a mean spirited prick/idiot.  This is a great board where everyone gets to post their opinions and it doesn't mean that everyone or anyone else is going to agree with them.  I'm pretty sure Dutchster's post is one of those that others don't and won't agree with.  I like to believe that Central fans have a little class, but there is always an exception.

i loved nothing more then watching the cowboys/packers game last october with me being the only cowboys fan in the bar...
most of my friends are packers bears or vikings fans so i love the spirited ribbing i get for liking AMERICA's TEAM, but giving it right back after we always win ;)
there is something to be said about people who can dish it as well as recieve it... not get offended when someone makes a remark about their team they have allegiance with, unless it gets personal... like anyone that says something about tar, shingles, hammers, nails, or just rooffing in general  ;D

although i am a hawks/cowboys fan.  i have a different alligiance with Coe.  i would take that more personal than a jab at the hawks.
cubs is an entirely different subject  :'(
