How did everybody find this site???

I think there was a link to d3football.com on some teams website when I was looking for a webcast.  I think it was BV but could have been Simpson.  I clicked on the link and then it took me a while to notice there was a message board.

From one of those students who reads the boards.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Shoot, I should have been gushing in my praise for Tim instead of putting in my 2 cents for Jermar getting MVP votes.  He used that as motivation for leading the Dutch to that triple OT win  ;D

You know you are kind of right.  The players don't post when they are playing.  They don't want fodder for the other team to use.  I think you would be surprised how motivating some the posts can be on here to the players.  I know that the postings from here were motivation for the players.   You get some quotes on here and can fuel to motivate some guys.   ;D ;D ;D

I read it a little bit during my playing days.  I tired to stay away from it because I got a little to emotional reading the posts as a player.  When someone ripped on BV I felt like posting so I just stayed away from it.  As I have moved past my playing days, those digs do not get me upset like they used to.  I did not post till well after my days were done.

WH...I think you will recall one of more intelligent posts coming from a player that happened to be on the BV campus.  This is not a place for players.  To your point about the coaches, I know they read this as well.  Its very interesting what their views on the points are as well.

I'm with Klop.  I read it maybe once or twice in college, but I didn't think it was right for players to get on here and post.  Too closely connected and can get rather emotional as you are busting your ass every day only to have people you have never met rip on you.

But after reading it more after college and finally posting after a year or two, I see that everyone on here is a IIAC fan and even though we each have a specific school we support we also respect everyone on here as well as all the schools and players and fans in the Iowa Conference.  It also helps that I know a few of the posters from Wartburg personally, but it would be cool to meet some of the others from all over the conference on here in person someday.

We've seen several players try to post here throughout the years, but the general consensus is that players should do their talking on the field instead of on a message board. I'm glad that we self regulate.

Don't you guys think it's funny that current players are concerned about what old fans are saying? I can't imaigine that the things that old sideline jockeys (like us) have to say being the least bit motivating.

What if you had read on here someone talking about how much they thought the Central Cheerleaders really stunk while you were on the sidelines???  :o  That might have fired you up!!!

Actually, I can't remember a whole lot of player critiques on here...at least not negative.  I know we all push for players we think should be MVP or all-conference.  But I don't remember a lot of talk about how we thought certain players stunk up the field.  Now that I think about it I suppose there could have been someone saying Sherden should be all-conference and then was followed by a "no way, I saw him get shut down by our defense, Schuring should be all-conference running back over Sherden"  Maybe that is what LCNorse is getting at???

Gau? Dau?? Something like that. I remember him playing a few years later but I don't remember if he was any good or not. What's that guy up to?
I think UD or Loras had a one-and-done player/poster a couple years ago as well.
WHo has been on the board the longest? I think of our current posters, its probably been Warthog, although I remember DF1 being on for quite a while as well.

Yes it was Gau.  He played tight end.  He ended up starting a year or two.  Big strong kid.  I think hes a personal trainer in Des Moines now, but I could be wrong.  I have not had any contact him since I graduated.

I recall a UD player getting on here and posting some crap as well.  I recall reading that when I was playing and then looking him up on the roster.  He was pretty well trashed by the end of the day.  I found it to be pretty funny.  The thing was I think he made a post about beating how they were going to monkey stomp Wartburg or Central.  That was in 2003 and I do know if they won a game that year.  Pretty entertaining.

In regards to getting fired up.  There were some things that motivated me at points.  There were times when we were playing UIU and people were picking us to fall on our face.  Again, thats why I steared clear of the board for the most part during my playing days.  Now being a post who is away from the program.  Its much easier to see why people say what the do and think what they do.

They haven't had anybody on the football board for a couple of years now.

I talked to some Loras posters on the basketball side of this forum last winter and they said they would post on here once football season started.  I'm not holding my breath though.  They were students that dissappeared whenever Loras lost a game so I doubt we hear from them unless Loras really does end up the surprise IIAC team this fall!!!

I'll give you a better reason in my experience .....they have proven to be among the poorest sports in winning and losing. And when it is losing, there is always an excuse or they just disappear as doolittle said. Prime example, one of the most vocal former Loras posters DustyO (aka the House76). He was always quick to bash UD, praise Loras in victory, and make excuses in defeat. He also disappeared around the time of the Spartans ending loras's winning streak. But, should he be blamed for following that same twisted mentality that Bob Bierie created at Loras? Not sure? He was young when bierie brained washed him so hopefully a more mature and more clearly thinking house will return.

There are of course still remnents of that attitude at Loras but it seems the retirement of bierie, the rise of UD in recent years along side the fall of Loras has given them a little reality check. And I will say this, I am a very competitive person and certainly do not like to lose. Let's say I am playing a 1 on 1 bball game in the driveway against someone and I lose. If the person I am playing, no matter how bad they beat me, shakes my hand and says "good game", I respect that. There is nothing worse then the person that gloats in victory or tries to demean the person defeated. And that is the Loras mentalilty I have witnessed for many years.....

Where is character development on and off the field?

For people who haven't lived in Dubuque it's hard to accuratly articulate the Loras situation in that town.  To outsiders it might not appear that the team is well supported as far as attendance.  When I was in school you were definatly looked down on in Dubuuqe once they knew you were a UD student.  There are a lot of people in Dubuque named Loras!!!  Very very strange situation.  Because of that brainwashing I am not always sure they are fully aware of how bad their sportsmanship is.

As far as current players.  Wasn't there a BV player last fall that made one or two posts before quickly dissappearing once his identity was discovered???  Cody Pierce or something like that???  I know he played in the Aztec Bowl.

Oh, and have you guys heard the jokes about having to put in artificial turf to keep the cheerleaders from grazing? LOL -- come on, guys, these are old jokes and not anything to get fired up about. Maybe that's just me, though.... :-*

I agree totally with you DF1.  If you took a survey of the IIAC Cheer Squads I bet less than 5% even know of this board.

What would you say the % is of Cheerleaders really know and understand the game?  How many of the gals on your squad/squads through the years really liked football enough to understand the game?  I don't think the majority of women know or really try to understand the game.  They may watch it and enjoy the game but I know many women come to the games to be with their spouses and they spend the time talking about anything but the game.

i know plenty of women (girlfriends/wives) that understand nothing of the game, even if they are dating or married to a player.  you find it very different when the woman is the mother of a player though i think.
