ShowMe, we should probably explain that after you have 200 posts you are able to give other posters + or - karma.  That is the +k people are talking about.  That drove me crazy when I first started on here trying to figure out what exactly that was.  So would ShowMe happen to be from Missouri???  Which technically is my home state, though I really think of Iowa as my home state!!!

No, I just know that's what Cornell has to do to get some RESPECT. Thats my motto this season. Mark you calenders for the weekend of 9/20, it starts then.

9/20 vs. Coe ... What are you predicting?

I'm predicting the weekened of 9/20 will be the first opportunity for Cornell to get RESPECT. I'm hopeful we can repeat our wins in game 1 and 2. The 3rd game is an excellent opportunity to send a message to the conference. Actual, it's a perfect opportunity.

We have to get the winning instinct in the first drive that gives us a chance to take a lead/control and stop turning the ball over. When we fail to score and turn the ball over, it causes mental challenges to the team. We need the confidence that comes from taking control of a game against a so called good team.

When you start to see Cornell take advantage of those opportunities, thats the first sign that things will be different in 2008. Time will tell the story!

Is it me or is there something kind of off by Cornell not playing Coe at the last game of the season?

Isn't this the oldest rivalry West of the Mississippi?

Heys-
If you went to Cal-Poly I'm not sure how you ever went to class there since it's only a few miles from the beach right?  I played out there my Fr year in  November- 72 degrees there  @ Cal- Poly, 25 back  in Cedar Falls.

Do you remember a QB there-Andy Jepson?  He's small town IA guy that was a pretty good QB for you.

did they join a conference?  used to be independent, correct?

I found a picture that works.  This isn't a pic of Heys while at Cal Poly, but a picture of Heys talking to his high school coach.  Hey's followed his high school coach from Ohio out to Cal Poly.

I can't get that thing to stay put...I guess the IIAC will have to wait a bit longer.

Jepson...The guy I think you are thinking about played at Cal Poly SLO (San Luis Obispo) in Central California

I also think that's what you remember...SLO is nearer to the beach.  Avila Beach, a very nice place, is where the students go.

I went to Cal Poly Pomona, sister school to SLO.
I played to the year they canceled the program due to budgetary reasons in '82.  Roman Gabriel was our coach.  Gabe was a a cool dude.  We were Div II.

Incidentally, Cal Poly Pomona is what we would call inland.  It's next to the Beach in relative terms compared to say...Iowa.  About 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic in those days.  But Pomona is not a beach town by any means.

Cal Poly SLO now plays Div 1-AA Scholarship, the Big West I think, and has been pretty good over the years.

Yeah, look at the conference in which they participate in football.

When you think of Great West Conference, do you think of Utah Valley U?   Houston Baptist?  Of UT-Pan American?, U North Dakota? U South Dakota? New Jersey Inst. of Technology?  (Oh by the way, the football only members are Southern Utah, UC Davis and Cal Poly.)

::)

Purple Heys,

I found a partial list of California schools that have dropped football.

Cal Poly-Pomona 1983
Cal Riverside 1976
Cal State Chico 1997
Cal State Fullerton 1993
Cal State Hayward 1994
Cal State LA 1978
Long Beach St 1992
Cal San Diego 1969
Cal Santa Barbara 1992

Any of these schools out of your old conference???

Are any schools considering getting back into football???

I know Fullerton built a brand new facility right around 1990 or so.  And I have wondered since the LA Galaxy built a 27,000 seat stadium on the campus of Cal State Domingues Hills if that school might consider adding football.
