Nice story on the D3 home page and also in the Iowa Sports Connection Magazine this month about Centrals cornerback who came back to be a starter in 2007 after spending 3 weeks in a coma the prior spring.  Love to see stories of perserverance like that.  Great comeback.

Actually, I can't remember a whole lot of player critiques on here...at least not negative.

Sukow & Yordi took some flack
But it wasn't for their athletic ability or their play in any games.  They deserved the flack they took IMHO.  I do think Sukow had the right to play where he wanted to play, but if I were a Coe fan, I would have taken it as pure betrayal in the senior year and Yordi, well, he was being young and stupid, but when you are in the spotlight, you have to remember that you always reflect on the team, and he reflected poorly on his team.  For a change, I was glad a player chose Wartburg as his home.   :-X

I have not seen a lot of KoHawks on here lately.  Where has Charlie been?  What is the outlook in Cedar Rapids this year.

Also how are the recoery efforts going in Parkersburg, Waverly, and Cedar Rapids?

Cedar Rapids is getting better, but it probably wont be for months until things get kind of back to normal.  downtown will be very different, they are loosing 29 of the 34 bars that were once down there.  it still smells terrible (not of quaker, but of dirty river).
I know that Charlie will be riding ragbrai, and has been heading the team that COE represents (team Cobrai)  he has probably been fairly busy from that.  i also dont know if he was affected by flood waters at all.
i'll be heading to waverly/wartbug to watch the substate baseball game being hosted at Wartburg between Sum-Fred and Waterloo Columbus, so i could see what that looks like tomorrow.

I won't comment on the rest of the games, but I would consider Augustana to be the favorite over Coe, which kinda throws the rest of the matches in to doubt.

Well I assume your thinking is the CCIW is a stronger conference than the IIAC, therefore you think Augustana should beat Coe.  But Coe was 7-3 last year while the Auggies were 4-6.  This year the question marks are Coe is bringing in a new head coach, while Augustana is changing from the wing-t to the spread.  I won't be surprised if Coe or Auggie win this game.

i would think that coe would be the favorite to win here.  they have everyone on their defense back, all except squires and hemaseth.  they were a top 3 defense last year, shoudl be no worse, but probably better this year.  you have to remember, coe practices against the spread every day in camp.  i would think that switching from the wing t to the spread would take at least a year of adjustment (getting players into school to fit the system)  the wing t and spread are polar opposites.  coe's defense will have to win the game, i'm afraid.  they will have to do that alot this year.

Yeah, I would say Coe has a lot fewer question marks than Auggie.  I would favor Coe in this game as well.  I just won't be surprised if Auggie wins either.  I think Mr. Yipsi is playing the CCIW is a better conference card.  But maybe not.

I would say that Auggie would be the favorite to win this game.  Augustana has a long and rich tradition in football.  A down year for a team with tradition can lead to a lot of determination.  We Dutch fans have some insight into that, as well as some history with Augustana.  They are not a team to be taken lightly.

I understand what you are saying about Auggie, they are a tough team and a good one.  I do however kind of look at this one as a toss up.  Auggie team will have had to gotten their new offense down.  This is not just new players this is a whole new scheme.  The oline will now have to learn both pass and run blocking.  Before with the Wing-T they were pretty much a run team.  The OT game three years ago they threw the ball twice and got sacked maybe 4 times.  They had one big completion and one pic.  I will wait to see how they implement their new Offense before calling Coe the underdog in this one.

Doolittle,

I think that I will be favoring Redlands not for the reasons you may think.  I have not really talked to Tim about the team out there.  With UD having some holes to fill and them going all the way out to Cali to play I think the home team should be favored in this one.  I am sure they have holes to fill from graduation but they are not traveling to Dubuque to play.  That long of a trip and the team getting to go where no Spartan has gone before  :D might be to much to overcome.

Auggie isn't just going into this change blindfolded, the last two years they have gradually been passing the ball more. The past two years they have almost doubled their attempts each year. So it won't be a completely new thing for this program. I would agree with you that this game is pretty much a toss-up...I wish more IIAC schools would play Augie...I think it would help with recruiting IA and IL kids

Yep, Redlands is a bit bigger trip than heading over to Storm Lake...and Dubuque doesn't do well when they make that trip!!!  Has Tim found out if Redlands will make the trip to Dubuque in '09 or is this a 1 and done series between Redlands and UD???  Also, I am wondering if UD might try to schedule more trips out to Cali.  Jeremy Fellows who is the new OC at Dubuque has an older brother that is now coaching at a JC out there and has been responsible for getting some Cali products over to UD...RB Brandon Clayton was one of them.  This same brother had been coaching high school ball in Michigan and was responsible for getting Jermar Jackson and many of the other Michigan players to UD.

I have no idea on what the schedule is for the 09 season yet.  I have not really had all that much time to talk to him.  He is busy and I have enough trouble just keeping up on the day to day stuff.   ;D ;D ;D
