ShowMe -- welcome to the board!

How long ago did you play for the Rams?

Zero seasons

Meaning....you never played at Cornell, or you are a current player?

Never played and not planning to play for Cornell, just a fan!

There is not such thing as just a fan!!  ;D
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Nice story about Chad Eisenman and his Central comeback.  But tell me ... does the picture of him on the D3football homepage look like his defensive play there was ripe for a pass interference call?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

I won't comment on the rest of the games, but I would consider Augustana to be the favorite over Coe, which kinda throws the rest of the matches in to doubt.

Well I assume your thinking is the CCIW is a stronger conference than the IIAC, therefore you think Augustana should beat Coe.  But Coe was 7-3 last year while the Auggies were 4-6.  This year the question marks are Coe is bringing in a new head coach, while Augustana is changing from the wing-t to the spread.  I won't be surprised if Coe or Auggie win this game.

i would think that coe would be the favorite to win here.  they have everyone on their defense back, all except squires and hemaseth.  they were a top 3 defense last year, shoudl be no worse, but probably better this year.  you have to remember, coe practices against the spread every day in camp.  i would think that switching from the wing t to the spread would take at least a year of adjustment (getting players into school to fit the system)  the wing t and spread are polar opposites.  coe's defense will have to win the game, i'm afraid.  they will have to do that alot this year.

Yeah, I would say Coe has a lot fewer question marks than Auggie.  I would favor Coe in this game as well.  I just won't be surprised if Auggie wins either.  I think Mr. Yipsi is playing the CCIW is a better conference card.  But maybe not.

I would say that Auggie would be the favorite to win this game.  Augustana has a long and rich tradition in football.  A down year for a team with tradition can lead to a lot of determination.  We Dutch fans have some insight into that, as well as some history with Augustana.  They are not a team to be taken lightly.

Yeah, this comes closer to my reasoning, as well as the game being in Rock Island.  (BTW, Augie fell only to 5-5, not 4-6, last year.)  Based on their tradition I think it is a safe bet that they will bounce right back (though I had momentarily forgotten their bombshell dropping the Wing T).

I certainly wasn't trying to play the "CCIW is better than IIAC" card, since I don't believe it is true (I'd say roughly equal).  And, as an IWU fan, I certainly wasn't trying to diss Coe - they handed us our lunch in last year's season-opener before we went on to tie for the conference title!  Our special teams were an absolute disaster the first half of the season; once that finally got straightened out, we would have liked a rematch of the pre-conference games to try to get a pool C bid!

Since i can't be just a fan, can I be a fanatic fan after Cornell wins their 1st conference game in September :)? Can I be an ecstatic fan if my conference champion dream come true? Can I be a pride fan enjoying the smell of eating crow if we get close? I  have to wait one play and one game at a time. Patience is painful, losing is painful, whay can't I be a fan after paying the price?

Some schools get all the calls.  I heard that the Olivet coach complained that Central should have been flagged for pass interferance on that play and the ref responded with "no we shouldn't"  ;D ;D ;D

Quick bit of coaching news to end the weekend...
Sounds like the report that Dan Hammes will be coaching the Wartburg RBs is accurate.  I think it will be a good fit.  Dan knows the system and the current players will respect the success he had as a player.  Plus, he won't hesitate to get after the guys if they slack off at all.

Another rumor I can confirm is that Coach Willis will be helping out again this year, but in more of a consultant role than anything else.  He'll help break down film and put together gameplans and scouting reports, but probably won't be helping on the practice field or the sidelines.

The candidates to replace Pat Toohey are lining up.  One was in for an interview on Friday.  I won't share any details until someone is hired, but the guy in on Friday had some pretty impressive playing experience.

I should have spoke up when I hear that Dan was going to coach as I called him and he said he was roofing in Waverly and got recurited  (JUST JOKING). I spoke to his dad and he confirmed that Dan was going to get his Masters at UNI and coach the running backs and is excited about getting started. This really didn't come as a surprise as the last time i talked to Dan, he said he was thinking about trying to get into coach some place.

You just enjoy yourself Show Me.   :)

Post about our team in a positive way and show some respect to the fans of other teams..even Coe Fans...mixing in some good natured ribbing, given as well as taken, and you'll be fine.   8)

ShowMe, I will let you be just a fan.  The two of us might be just about the only ones on here that aren't either a former player, cheerleader, parent, or employee of one of the IIAC schools!!!

And I like your enthusiasm!!!  Support your school and dream big...even if it isn't very likely!!!  Me being a Spartan fan I know where you are coming from!!!

You will have a lot of fun on this board.  Everyone supports their school and gives other supporters trouble.  But last year come playoff time you found just about everyone from the IIAC board rooting for Central to do well in the playoffs.  At the end of the day we all have fun on this board.

What difficult position for Tim...we'd all love to hear his perceptions on IIAC vs. SCIAC..but as a coach/participant it would be unseemly for him to make such comments public.

It would, at some point, be interesting to get a compare and contrast between Redlands' HC Maynard and Central's McMartin.

Redlands shapes up to be one of the SCIAC's best this year and Central is among the IIAC best...would be interesting to get his opinion on how he thinks things stack up.

At least maybe you can share his impression of SoCal after he gets more acclimated...

On the other hand maybe I can get to the Ram's opener on 9/6 then I'll catch the UofR/DBQ game next week and offer my own unique analysis.   ;)

Luther hires two new coaches

Bryan Eayrs begins his first season as receivers coach.  A 2004 graduate of Augsburg College, Eayrs played quarterback.  He served the past two years with the Minnesota Vikings in the personnel department and was a graduate assistant for Coach Durnin at UW-La Crosse in 2005.

Luke Knauf also begins his first season as offensive line coach.  Knauf is a 2007 graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he played from 2003-06.  Prior to joining the Norse staff he served as the assistant offensive line coach at UW-La Crosse

My wife just got home from taking our daughters to the eye doctor.  My 5 year old picked out purple glasses!!!  I don't know if that is an early indicator of what college she might choose though  ;D
