If they did it, it would be for asthetics.  No school needs more seating except for Coe.
When they tore down old Schield Stadium 7 years ago, the seating was *maybe* 1500.  Walston-Hoover is now 4000-4500.

Yeah, it would be for asthetics mainly.  From pictures I have seen of Central and Simpson they each looked like they had 3 seperate home bleacher sections and Coe had the 1 stand and then a whole bunch of little bleacher sections.  Whenever Coe has highlights on the local news it just looks like a bunch of people standing around the field.  I wonder if Central and Simpson might actually get crowds to rival Wartburg if they actually had better looking seating.  Plus I would think it would help recruiting a bit if it didn't look like most of the other schools had better facilities than you, even if the current seating capacity was adequate.  Of course Central has a pretty good argument that they are doing just fine thank you very much in the recruiting department!!!

From looking at pictures of Walston Hoover it looks like 15 rows in front of the press box and then 18 rows on the outside with a small away side bleacher seating.  How many rows did Schield have??? Is it really THAT much bigger than the old place???  I suppose the old stand could have held 1,500 and there was no away seating and now the new stand could hold 3,000 with 1,000 on the away side.

the people standing aroudn the field are generally students.  a majority of hte students sit/stand in the north endzone to get closer to the action, and probably so their voices can be heard.  it would be nice if coe put up some visiting stands (not the mobile ones they have now) and also some student seating in the endzones.  the bleacher seating they have now for the students is fine.

I am also one to agree that Coe needs more seating.  It doesn't look quite right when a player turns around and sees just as much of the vistor fan section compared to the home sections.  The little bleatchers are pathetic, but they are nice when they used to be in the end zone with the students yelling.  If I was on the Coe Administration I would project that in a few years they would move the practice field somewhere else (possibly to the new project land where all the houses are being bought and destroyed, which is where the soccer practice field is now at) and then build a vistor stand on the opposite side of the current stand.  That would make the most sense, but whether they are planning to do that in the near future is another thing.

Central has it in the master plan to renovate the stadium, but I think it is a longer range plan.  This year they are adding a new education/psychology building and renovating one of the residence halls.  Academics gets their turn at Central.   ;)  Eventually the plan is to build a new stadium opposite the current home bleachers for the home side and the current home stands will become visitor seating.  The plan is to have a nice area behind the top of the bleachers where they can serve meals tailgate style, have reunions, etc.  It sounds awesome, but I'm not sure how long before it comes to be a reality.

That does sound like a fantastic plan for the place!!!

There's certainly not a need to add seating at Simpson. You can even find a seat when Central comes to town. Although, some of the metro HS teams probably complain about the visitor seating. As a SC student, I remember teams like Valley and Dowling coming down. There wasn't much space for the fans.

I did hear a rumor that Simpson was planning to replace the old chain link fence that surrounds the field with a fancy black iron fence with brink pillars. They want to have the field tie in with the campus a little better. By the sounds of plan, that would do the trick.

Yeah, if you want to sit behind the home team, but the visitor stands could be bigger for when Central comes to town.

WH runs from 5yard line to 5 yard line if memory serves me correctly. That's what makes it so big. I thought it went up 20 rows, but I could be wrong.
The old Schield was tiny. I have a picture but not on my computer.
It was not centered on the field, running from the south 15 to the north 40.
by my count on a picture taken from Clinton Hall my freshmen year, there were 14 rows up on about 2/3 of it and 11 on the other1/3. Then 4 deep people standing all the way around the field. That place had some character.

I agree that Coe needs some help. It's never good to have the home and visitor fans mix in the same seating.
As far as Central. It would be a great idea to switch sides. It always made me wonder why you make your home fans squint into the sun. Maybe that's why the home crowd is so quiet, they can't see the game!
I think some freshening up would help Simpson a lot. The last time I was there the stands just look a little time-worn.
As far a Wartburg, if you tour campus you'll notice that they rennovated all the academic buildings BEFORE they built the Wellness Center.  :D
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Walston Hoover

I just counted at W-H, I got 19 rows up and I know there is room to stand 3 deep at the top.

I could easily see that stand holding over 3,000 then.  I think Dubuque's new home stand will average 12 rows and that is supposed to hold 2,000 with another 1,000 on the visitors side.  That should be plenty big for Dubuque.  If they ever outgrow that they could put removable bleachers in the endzone for the students and really have a good atmosphere.

I know Luther has a lot more rows than any other IIAC stadium but they don't stretch that far.  Does anybody know from what yard lines they go.  From 25 to 25???  It's still an impressive site to see.

Carlson Stadium @ Luther goes from about 35 to 35, but isn't it short visitors side seating.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
