WOW-- Miss a few days and look what happens.

With Willis running the show again in Waverly I predict an IIAC Title this season.

Some of us will never know the whole story, as Hoover has provided us with an explanation that will suffice for this board.  I will refrain from making any erroneous statments that might not have any merit, but something does seem a bit fishy in my eyes considering statements I heard earlier in the summer regarding the final decision made in open coaching vacancies open in other conferences.

You can go ahead and put your conspiracy theories to bed.  I can guarantee there was no ill will between Willis, Koehler, and the rest of the administration at Wartburg.  There is no cloud of secrecy here.  The opportunity presented itself, Koehler made sure the program would be OK if he made the leap, and it all happened very quickly.  To suggest otherwise is just another attempt by some to try to put a chink in Wartburg's armor (pun intended).

These coaching moves just happen from time to time, especially at the D3 level.  Coaching and athletics have changed so much in the past 25 years that we will be seeing fewer and fewer examples of coaches that are willing to stay in one place for a long time.  The days of Ron Schipper and Buzz Levick are long gone.  If you have talent, someone from a higher division will find you and offer you a job.  Right now, the only coaches I can think of around the IIAC that have stayed at their post despite the chance to move onward and upward would be VanHaaften at BV (basketball) Jim Miller at Wartburg (wrestling) and both of Simpson's basketball coaches.  Good, bad, or indifferent, that's just the way of the world right now.

The Koehler thing is a lot like what happens when students graduate from college.  You are thankful for the time they spent at your institution and while you hate to see them go, you hope they enjoy nothing but great success at their next stop.

SK that is exactally why I did not bring up any consipracy theories.  I have heard some things over the summer that made my head turn.  These were not from any BV coaches, but from coaches outside that program.  In a effort to not turn this into a RUMOR CENTRAL I refrained from and will refrain from posting what I had heard.  Most of the time these things are hearsay and can hurt more than help.  To add to that, I know that the coaches in the conference do read this board.  At no point would I want to embarass or start a rumor mill that could be brought up at some school athletic function.

As I said in my earlier post, coaching college football is a business these days.  In regards to trying to knock down the Knight....No thanks I try to stay away from beating someone else down in order to raise myself up.

I was totally surprised by this. I met with Coach Koehler this past WEDNESDAY and went over the operation of presentation systems because "we are going to start meeting as a staff next (this) week".

Are Willis and Koehler very same in play calling/strategies?

will the kids there respond to Willis teh same?  such as frosh/sophs/juniors that might have wanted to play for Koehler instead of Willis?

i liked Koehler during the recruting process... can't say the same about Willis.

WIllis is a Defensive guy, Koehler was offensive (no pun intended)
Koehler told me nothing would change because coordinators are set and will remain.
The main difference between the 2 at Wartburg is there were multiple championships won with Willis's recruits.  (Koehler pointed that out to me)

There are mixed emotions at our house. While we will miss Coach Koehler we are excited about the chance to play for Coach Willis. We enjoyed the recruiting process with Coach Koehler. He backed up everything he told us. Everything I've heard about Coach Willis leads me to believe that the Knights will lose nothing in the transition.

Was anyone else reading the front page thinking, "He's baaaaaaack"?? With Willis back at the helm, everyone needs to watch out for Wartburg (AGAIN). He's amazingly talented and definitely knows the conference.

Congrats to Koehler on making the move to a higher level.

Not starting a war here but with that quote about Willis' recruits.  Were they not the players that Coach K had as well?  With only two years of recruiting I don't think there were many players there that were Coach K's recruits contributing to much playing time.  I may be wrong but that does not make sense to me.  If you want to say he recruited three years then the last class Coach Willis recruited has this years seniors in it does it not?  I think this does bode well for Wartburg as Coach Willis will have his boys to coach the final year they are there.

This changes my pick from Simpson to Wartburg for the new coach that does the best with his team.  I think that it goes to Wartburg now.

DBQ- I align myself as a Duhawk, but with Willis running the show at Wartburg, I am very Confused again. I had almost transitioned completely away from being confused.

Bottom line, when the Duhawks and the Knights line up- I will be wearing my Duhawk gear!

Looks like Iowa isn't the only team in the media about legal trouble.  I know many D1 teams have these types of troubles with young men getting into trouble with the law, but not every school is brought in the front of headlines nationaly like Iowa and now Penn State has recently.  Also, does anyone have any opinions on wether this is Joe Pa's last year coaching or at least at Penn State?  His contract is up at the end of the season, and both Joe Pa and the President of Penn State have said they will wait until the end of the season to talk about the contract issue.  Does this year put exta pressue on Joe Pa and Penn State to have a good year?  Since, Joe Pa is 2nd in most wins I believe he will be able to stay at Penn State until he dies....so I don't see any extra pressure.
