1.  BV (Watching the "Loud, Proud, Plowed" Beaver den and besides, what else is there to do in Storm Lake besides the women?
2.  Loras (Catholic School, what else do you expect)
3.  Wartburg (Joe's? U Bet. Not much tops keggers in the showers of the Res during May term)
4.  Luther (I've been there, they party, not as much as Wartburg, but there is no lack of partying. Music people=hard partying, believe it or not)
5.  Coe (Haven't experienced a weekend there. Just going by what I hear. If its anything like the atmosphere at football games, they should be a lot lower on the list)
6.  UD (I know people who went there, they graduated with far less brain cells than they started with)
7. Central (The Turkey shoot ranks right up there. Some people that I hang with now that went to Central drink me under the table. I think they are making up for the rest of the student body)
8.  Simpson (No one is around on the weekends. Probably the #1 suitcase school in the conference. Anyone who is around heads to DSM on Saturday night.
9.  Cornell (Too busy winning football games. Oh, wait I should say talking about winning football games.)

from experiences at every school, i would say Coe is the number 1 place for partying, of saturdays during football season and off season.  it has said to have gone down a couple notches in the last year, but from what i know of the other schools, and first hand experience, Coe is head and shoulders above the other schools in the conference.  you name it, i think it has been done at Coe

As to having your school on the party list: it is a great thing when you are in college, but when people view your school as a respectable institution, you really don't want to be on the list.  However, Coe is an award winning top notch liberal arts school like many in the IIAC.  Overall, this is my list from my experiences in college.

1.) Coe – Going a little biased here, but here are my key points.  5 bars within walking distance (3 blocks)  Paddy's, Moose's, Mahoneys, Who's on 1st, & Homeport as the main Coe bars.  But then you have all of the downtown bars (or at least we did).  Flunk Day has been going on for over 50yrs (A drunken day of canceled classes and madness with kegs and food on the quad with bands) Also, I believe Coe is the only wet-campus school in the IIAC (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not exactly sure).  Along with that, there has always been a good TKE party on most weekends.
2.) Wartburg – have never been there, but heard it's almost like Coe, just a slight step down from a few transfers from Coe to Warburg
3.) BV – going on personal experiences, that when I've been there I have had a good time...especially at Malarkys

As for the rest I haven't really heard of too many stories or haven't had any experiences so here is my guess
4-5.) Loras & Luther
6.) Simpson
7.) Dubuque
8.) Cornell – don't really hear much about parties.
9.) Central – they maybe have 1 bar in the town??  Located in a dry county?  Not helping the list

"Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the heard is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

Nice work df1.  I wish I was a bit older so more of the jokes made sense to me when I used to watch that show.  When you figure that it went off the air on my tenth birthday, I think there was plenty that probably went over my head.

Speaking of party school rankings, what's everyone think the IIAC would look like if included in Princeton's ratings?  I'd probably break it down like so:
1.  Coe (more bars in the area plus Flunk Day earns plenty of points)
2.  Loras (I first learned the idea of a "keg race" from friends that went to Lorass)
3.  Wartburg (3 bars within 2 blocks of campus is a big number for a town the size of Waverly, plus the dorm bashes are usually pretty packed too)
4.  BV (Watch their basketball student section some time and you'll get an idea for the level of drinking that goes on)
5.  Luther (I think the potential is there for Luther to be higher on the list)
6.  Simpson (Might have been in the top 2 during the late 90s if some of the stories my cousins tell me)
7.  Dubuque (Even though it sits in one of the best beer towns in Iowa, I just don't think of UD as a party school)
8.  Central (I think the ratio of students that drink to those that do at Central is probably the exact opposite as it is at Wartburg or Loras)
9.  Cornell (I've never heard Cornell party stories...not once.  Just sayin')

Geeze!  Eighth?  And yet somehow, I seem to remember having a pretty good time.

For goodness sakes, WH. So what you're telling me is that you think Central parties harder than Simpson. You might be the first person who has ever said that!  ;)

I know Simpson gets the "suitcase" campus tag quite a bit, but I didn't ever think it was that bad. Everyone says that we all would go to Des Moines on the weekends...I heard that when I was in school. But I can count on one hand the number of times we went to DM on the weekends.

Walston Hoover

I'm pretty sure Wartburg is wet. If not, then it is not enforced. They serve beer in the fieldhouse at homecoming. We had RA's drinking with us in the dorm rooms and nothing was ever mentioned of it being illegal.

SC-Did you graduate Simpson in the last few years? Some of the guys I know that went there and are there now don't have much good to say about the weekends.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Remedy -- Pella isn't a dry town, and Marion County isn't a dry county. When I was in college, the town had 6 bars or so, almost all within campus walking distance, and there was plenty of beer to be bought at HyVee for campus parties. (I hear things have changed, sadly, in the bar department....) We're not the alcoholics that Kohawks are, though.  ;)

Luther can definitely be towards the top of the list.  Trout Fry helps move it up.  I have heard good stories, but never attended.  I also made it to a Rugby/Football game weekend at Luther once.  Sitting on a 30-pack at the rugby match and running cross field during the game to pass beers to my friends.  Downing captains and cokes at the football game then off to the rugby house party afterwards.  Got caught with two full beers by them dropping golf balls in my beer and having to chug them (damn double fisting).  I have never been to Luther's "Joe's Knighthawk" (don't recall the name off the top of my head), but I have partied in a few of the other downtown bars...good times (especially the Corner).

Wartburg did have Kohlman Park Party that up's the college's drinking.  "Play Term" offered 7 days a week drinking for many.  I also heard of some Comm. Arts parties (SK and WH can fill us in) in the Village, while I attended a few on the roof of Grossman.

I really haven't been to any other IIAC towns to party so I can't compare.  However, I will admit WIAC may have us in this category.  My party times at both Stout and Platteville were some of my drunkest times.  Maybe frat houses contribute to this.  I never partied in La Crosse during college, but post college I can tell you they are definitely a "party school".

dont forget about Just Juel's (6) Tic Toc (7) Sip and Stir (8') I guess if you're getting technical then O'Mallly's (9).  if you're going to say Moose's then you can also add Mulligans (10)

Former FB Ashton Northern will be a GA at Wabash with Raubern as well this year.  I believe he also offered the Defense Cord. job to Phantz, but turned it down because he had already accepted a job at central...damn Dutch! :)

someone should still be kicking Chandler in the head for not hiring Phantz as an assistant with how good of a recruiter he is...now he's stealing kids for the dutch....thanks chandler!

Phantz is a top notch recruiter yet I hear the Simpson staff got quite a few kids Central was after.  I guess that means we should be looking out for Simpson in the near future!!!

Being a Cornell grad and having plenty of friends that went to other IIAC schools I would rank them like this.

Coe
Wartburg
Luther
Loras
BV
Simpson
Cornell
UD
Central

I think though each is a good place to go and have a good time. I have been to just about every school and partied and think all of them were fun. BV is the only one I haven't partied at but I have heard some good stories.

doolittledog

This is weird for me to see UD ranked so low on the party scale based on my memories from so long ago.  That said, as an old man now who would be happy if his kids some day wanted to go to Dubuque, I am happy to see UD ranked a little lower on the party scale.  Must mean UD students are concentrating on academics more!!!

A few of quick things:

1) Pfantz was offered a job by Raeburn, after he left for Wabash, but Pfantz had just gone through the task of getting out of his teaching contract, midyear mind you. He knew this would be career suicide if he were to try and get out of Central. I also think he is pretty happy with his situation at Central at the moment. (Yes, I know Pfantz and that is how I know this information.)

2) I think Northern would have stayed at Coe to be a GA had Coe actually offered as much money. (this is just speculation) I have heard from a very reliable source that Wabash offers a considerable amount more to there GA's.
-Also, who wouldn't want to go to a place where there is the chance of having ESPN Gameday on campus for the final game of the year because they draw such a crowd. (I believe it's close to 12,000 people on hand.)

3) Party school I would definitley have to rank them as follows:
1)Coe - Personal experience and as stated before "if you thought of it we've
                      tried it."
         2) Wartburg - I have heard things can get pretty crazy, but the bar scene is
amazing for such a small town.
         3) Luther - I think it all depends on who you are with up there. I always had
                           a good time.
The rest can fall as they may in my opinion, although BV probably should
have gotten some recognition on my list, but I never partied there.

4) On the whole Koehler leaving Wartburg and Willis taking over. I have heard that most of the coaches are more worried about Wartburg now because they feel Willis is a much stronger coach.

There's my two cents. (might actually be more like a quarters worth!)

footballdaddy

As far as the part scene goes, all I know is that footballkid enjoys Friday and Saturday nights at The Goat and Joe's a lot more than sitting in someone's dorm room  drinking, which is about all his UNI and ISU buddies do.

Of course, getting a "Dancing" wristband allowng underage people to go to the bars and not drink is a great idea.  ::)

Yeah, it's been a few years. I have a few connections on campus (brothers of some friends, etc.) and they seem to have plenty of fun. Of course, I was on campus when a 7-3 record was said to be a disasterous season and we were all wondering what went wrong. During two 10-0 seasons, maybe the administration let a little more slide on the weekends. It's ironic that ten years later, most people on campus would give anything for a 7-3 season. Times have changed at Simpson.
