Okay, WH, I'm calling you out. I want you to name a few past Simpson All-Americans who weren't very good.

Simpson's SID has to be the best in the conference. For as many football AllAmericans they get, preseason and post season, and if you watch the guys, they're just not that good.
That, my friends, is the by-product of a great SID.

As far as ranking athletic programs I'd have to sadly give the crown to Wartburg, head and shoulders above the rest of us.  Loras and Luther, amongst others, always challenge for the all-sports trophy, but the Knights are just too good at too many things.  At least we can beat them in sports coverage.

So how about rating the SID's in the conference?  I would put Central's up against any in the conference Larry H does a great job, though he does forget to spell check from time to time.  He sent two stories that got front page in the off season, it didn't take a last minute coaching change to get us on the front page.   ;) ;) ;)

My only dealings with IIAC SID's are from emailing them over the winter to see if they could email me a football schedule for the next season.

BV and Simpson SID's emailed me back with schedules within 10 minutes of my emails.  BV actually wrote me back with a thank you and an explanation after I noticed an error in their schedule.  Simpson SID was nice enough to send me a media guide.

Cornell emailed me that nothing was finalised as of that time, and when they did have a final schedule it was emailed to me minutes before it went up on their website.

The Dubuque SID has never once returned any email I have EVER sent him!!!

The other schools sent out a schedule to me once theirs were finalised.  Which sometimes took a few months.  On the one hand they didn't notify me that nothing was settled...but on the other hand they kept my email in their in-box and then took the time to notify me when they did have a schedule finalised.

OK guys, 2 pages a day for the next month and we'll have no problem getting to 1200 by the season.
Can we do it???
I can't hear you! Can we do it???
;D

I think we are averaging 4-5 pages a day during the week...probably 1 during the weekends.  I think we make it with a week or so to spare.

Probably should try to pick up some of my own slack from last week and in advance of camp coming up next week.

Did the earth move under your feet yesterday Heys?

It was centered about 70 miles north in Chino Hills...Where we owned our first home when Heys Jr. was a baby.

I didn't feel it...the building I work in is a big heavy concrete tilt-up..pretty stable.

Wife and kids were on the road so they didn't notice it either.

Neighbors felt it though when we talked to them...they said the houses swayed a bit.

Pretty routine.  Haven't actually had any for a while...knock on wood.   :)

My daughter was in LA on business said it was weird to have things move but thats an Iowa girl . She said the locals where not to concerned ??? ???

What ages and how many are you expecting next week?

Not sure about the Dubuque SID's in the past..I have sent a few notes to them about updating all time records for all sports (selfishly looking for them to update basketball so I can see my name in "lights") and never got a reply. I have interacted with other SID's, Simpson's was great and very polite. I've been contemplating emailing a few schools so I can request old baskteball games, not sure if that will fly or not!

Glad to know I'm not the only Dubuque alum that gets ignored by the UD SID!!!

Perhaps they aren't replying to you because they think you are an imposter.  The REAL Keith45 is 6'6 as we all know  ;D ;D ;D

THis is our camp at Dowling that officially "unofficially" kicks off the football season.
Probably 75 freshmen
50-55 sophs
and 70 jrs/srs

At Williams OL camp 2 weeks ago, I think we had 140 kids there. maybe 15 jr high kids, but the rest frosh on up
Obviously Dowling represented quite well.
Bondurant, Dallas Center-Grimes, Roosevelt, Roland Story, North Polk, Norwalk also had guys there. I think that's all. In the past there's been a large contigent from North High and Indianola too, but none this year.

Last Week at Central, probably 400 kids, maybe a few more.
Us, LinnMar, CR Jefferson, Williamsburg, Carroll, Dallas Center-Grimes, Montezuma, Adel-Desoto, North Scott and I think that's it. I may be forgetting someone.

Funny!!! I just had a Dr's appointment last week, I'm barely 6'4!!! ;D Maybe I'm shrinking in my old age! I'm also 40 pounds heavier than my playing weight too!

Here is the non-con games for the IIAC.

BV
UW-Platteville 2007 record 2-8 8th in the WIAC
Waldorf 2007 record 2-9 NAIA Independant

Central
Lakeland 2007 record 6-4 IBC Champs
@ Albion 2007 record 2-8 6th in the MIAA

Coe
@Augustana 2007 record 5-5 6th in the CCIW
Gustavus Adolphus 2007 record 5-5 6th in the MIAC

Cornell
Grinnell 2007 record 1-9 10th in the Midwest Conference
Carelton 2007 record 2-8 8th in the MIAC

Dubuque
Rockford 2007 record 7-3 UMAC South Champs
@ Redlands 2007 record 8-2 SCIAC Champs

Loras
Monmouth 2007 record 7-3 2nd in the Midwest Conference
@Milikin 2007 record 2-8 7th in the CCIW

Luther
St. Olaf 2007 record 8-2 3rd in the MIAC
@ Waldorf 2007 record 2-9 NAIA Independant

Simpson
Grandview 2007 record N/A  NAIA 1st season of football
@ Northwestern 2007 record 8-2 UMAC North Champs/UMAC Champs

Wartburg
St. Norbert 2007 record 10-1 Midwest Conference Champs
@ Augsburg 2007 record 5-5 5th in the MIAC

Ranking of the schedules taking into consideration of the toughness of opposition here goes.

Wartburg as St Norberts is a playoff team and am guessing that they are picked to be champs of their conference again.  Auggie is tough and beat them last year at Wartburg keeping them out of the playoffs.  Could be a really big test for the Knights as is they lose one of these games they will almost certainly need to run the table in the IIAC to make a playoff team.  If they do not get the AQ from the IIAC and lose to one of these teams they won't get an at large with 2 losses just like last year.

Coe gets the nod ahead of UD for second.  Auggie is a tough team year in and year out so they will have their hands full.  Gustavus is tougher that Rockford and Auggie is about the same as Redlands but Redlands I think may be better but almost the same caliber so that game is a toss up as to who is tougher.  Same can be said for Coe here as it was said for Wartburg.  Lose one of these games and it will be an uphill climb for them to make it in the playoffs.

UD is next.

I would put Luther and Central a toss up here.  I think that St Olaf and Lakeland are pretty equal as Olaf plays some quality teams in the MIAC but Lakeland being a playoff team and conference champ may equal things out.  If you want to say Olaf is better by a little bit I might give that to you but playing Waldorf they lose out on even to a MIAA team like Albion.

I may even call Loras equal to Central and Luther but Monmouth I don't think is that tough and Milikin is sort of a mystery team.  Has player Wartburg tough before but is kind of up and down.  I might even put BV here in this clump of teams for sceduling a WIAC team but having Waldorf on the schedule weakens it a lot IMHO.

Then we have last place.  Simpson and Cornell.  I don't think Northwestern could beat Carleton and Grandview and Grinnell are on the same level or at least now I would call them than.  Grinnell may have an edge here as this is Grandviews first season.

BV UWP  I think UWP will win.  BV will beat Waldorf

I will pick Central to win both of their games.

Coe I will pick to go 1-1 losing to Auggie on the road (only cause its on the road and I reserve to change this after I see Auggie and the Dutch scrimmage) and win at home against the Gusties

Cornell 2-0

UD 1-1 beating Rockford and losing to Redlands due to the distractions of the long trip and Redlands having an extra week to prepare for them.

Lorass 2-0

Luther 1-1 losing to Olaf and beating Waldorf.

Simpson 2-0

Wartburg 2-0

Lohman brought no kids ??? Maybe there just real studs at Indianola ??? ??? ???

Walston Hoover

I'm not sure if they were having a seperate one at Indianola or not. In the past, they have, but I know numbers were waning.

DF2K4, a 5-5 Augsburg from the MIAC is as good as an 8-2 Redlands that won their conference and made the playoffs.  And an 8-2 St. Olaf from the MIAC is even stevens with a Lakeland that went 6-4...won their conference but didn't make the playoffs???  Yeah, possibly.

I think Redlands will be favored to win over Dubuque.  That said, it will be the Spartans 2nd game of the season and the 1st of the year for Redlands.  That might help even things out a little bit for Dubuque in my mind.

the road trip probably won't help the Spartans though.
