i'd say that the majority of the drinkers in this state are a bit above the average.  these numbers would be larger if only the population that drinks were used.

I watched a History Channel show on beer just last weekend.  I think the average for the US is something around 22 gallons of beer per year.  So I would say we are a bit above average if we hit 37 gallons for an average.  Makes you wonder what our neighbors in Minny and Wisky averaged!!!

For those that say I'm drunk with my optimism, I drink a lot less than this.

I think the Rams' goals are modest enough.  Win games in non-conference, win a conference game or two, maybe stun someone and put a chink in somebody's plan otherwise...but above all compete for 4 quarters for every game.

We can't all be Central.   :)

I have higher expectations, the team should have higher expectations too! Winning and losing teaches life lesson's too. I've always learned more winning. "Yes We Can" be the best in the IIAC in 2008!

Expectations to win will breed confidence, confidence just short of arrogance breeds winners. In 2008, it's time for Cornell to win!!!! No excuses, every player in the league puts on the pads the same way, one at a time. You have to have a heart. I'm going to pass out purple hearts this season. Let's see who has the heart!

Are you a motivational speak for your job? ;D

No, I'm tired of excuses, "just win baby". It's time to turn the table and stop handing out reasons that can be used as an excuse.

So are you counting on top 3 or winning the league?? ??? ??? ???

I'm counting on a competitive team. I'll take any of the above, either would be considered competitive.

When you break it down to drinks or cans or beer it doesn't seem so many.  37 gallons of beer comes down to 388 (rounded) cans of beer a year.  2 gallons of liquor is 256 ounces and isn't an ounce about what a drink or shot is?  With wine i took a shot at saying a glass is about 5 ounces so that comes to 45 glasses.  That comes to over just one beer a day less than one hard drink and glass of wine a day.  Two drinks total a day.  Does not seem like an over abundance.  Now consider how much that college kids go through or at least the UoI football team the there are many people not even drinking in the state.  The drinkers are really living it up.   ;D ;D ;D

The fire that Brother ShowMe is bringing is getting me kind of lathered up...

Maybe he should try motivational speaking.   :D

I have no doubt that Cornell will win in the Iowa Conference this year.  I believe that more than 2 wins is within reach by creating some breaks, taking advantage, and good old fashioned protect the football.  I believe that this group will be able to say, "I was there, I helped turn it around."

Not looking to dis past players, many of whom in my opinion, graduated as winners, despite not having an IIAC score in their favor over the past 2 years.

With the help of those seniors, I think that the scales have tipped as far as attitudes and approach for the kids that are in the program now.  A certain amount of the losing mentality element has been overtaken by the new batch of players that are working hard all summer in the MV area or at home and will be better prepared since some key positions have some continuity combined with measurable talent at certain positions on par with some of the best of the IIAC.

I might be more pragmatic than Brother ShowMe in that I know the depth issue and the special teams history create major areas of concern, as well as we have to establish a new offensive line (albeit with more experience and talent than I first accounted for).

I also realize the grind that is the IIAC where, as far as the Rams are concerned, there are no easy games.

But I can be positive, too.   ::)

I think we are better this year, the conference, by many accounts, doesn't seem quite as strong this year.  Some very good players graduated from almost every team, and coaching changes may perhaps stunt the performance of some teams early on.

I expect the Rams to bring it, to expect and to play to win.

I wish there were video to watch it all on.

Camp was H-O-T hot today. We adjusted the schedule and ran both our practices in the morning and were back inside for lunch. Meetings in the afternoon with the players in a hot school after 2 practices about put me to sleep though.
Reading Sid's preseason release has me excited for Wartburg Football.

Not sure if this is still the case or not, but there was a time not long ago when Dubuque County led the United States and was second in the world in per capita alcohol consumption.
