Not much love for the Knights in the top 25 poll.

It, pretty much, mirrors the final poll from last season. It's a good starting point. If you look at last years pre-season poll and compare it to the final poll, about ten teams, including four top ten teams were not there at the end.

I think the Knights would get the love if their only loss had been to Central, but they have to stop losing a game they should win 9 out of 10 times.

And they probably were hurt a couple spots by the late coaching change. Even though Willis is an experienced coach with a good track record it is reason to doubt Wartburg.

I hate to be cliche here, but where you start the season is not nearly as important as where you finish it.

I like any reason to doubt Wartburg :D and understand what you are saying, but those of us who know Willis, know things will only get better for the knights.   :'( :'( :'(

The early polls don't really mean much though and the past year results are the best first indicator of how teams will do.  I would have expected to see Central lower based on the graduation losses we had.  Personally, I think a team that isn't rated gets the chance to make it to the polls and climb without the pressure.  The Central coaches will have their work cut out for them, but it sounds like a great year of recruiting and lots of transfers coming in that should be able to help out faster.

They will move up pretty quickly, if they win their first three games. St Norberts and Augsburg both recieved votes.

Central vs. Wartburg a GOTW if both are undefeated going into week 3?

The fire that Brother ShowMe is bringing is getting me kind of lathered up...

I have no doubt that Cornell will win in the Iowa Conference this year.  I believe that more than 2 wins is within reach by creating some breaks, taking advantage, and good old fashioned protect the football.  I believe that this group will be able to say, "I was there, I helped turn it around."

Not looking to dis past players, many of whom in my opinion, graduated as winners, despite not having an IIAC score in their favor over the past 2 years.

With the help of those seniors, I think that the scales have tipped as far as attitudes and approach for the kids that are in the program now.  A certain amount of the losing mentality element has been overtaken by the new batch of players that are working hard all summer in the MV area or at home and will be better prepared since some key positions have some continuity combined with measurable talent at certain positions on par with some of the best of the IIAC.

I might be more pragmatic than Brother ShowMe in that I know the depth issue and the special teams history create major areas of concern, as well as we have to establish a new offensive line (albeit with more experience and talent than I first accounted for).

I also realize the grind that is the IIAC where, as far as the Rams are concerned, there are no easy games.

But I can be positive, too.   ::)

I think we are better this year, the conference, by many accounts, doesn't seem quite as strong this year.  Some very good players graduated from almost every team, and coaching changes may perhaps stunt the performance of some teams early on.

I expect the Rams to bring it, to expect and to play to win.

I wish there were video to watch it all on.

It sure feels better to have one of our key Cornell message board supporters sharing the same expectations.

I'll take on the role of motivator, if it will help. We (Cornell fans) start the season with the goal and expectation to win the championship. That doesn't change until we are mathematically eliminated. At a minimum, the Cornell players and coaching staff should have the heart to give 110% up to that point. If we are eliminated, then we can work on the next season.

Each football program in the IIAC has a history, good and bad. The good thing about history is it's in the past. At the start of this season, every team has the same record, 0,0. There is no reason we cannot expect Cornell to compete for the championship. Yes, we have our challenges, I agree, most teams really only play 35 – 40 players during the season. If we can put together an effective group of about 40 players, we can compete.

There is no guarantee that the top IIAC teams will be the top teams in 2008. Yes, I know there is a lot of respect on this board for those teams and rightfully so.

All of the young men in this conference put their pants on the same way, one leg at a time. I say, the difference is the heart of the man putting on the pants.

honestly, i would have a goal to compete for every game, not to win the conference if i were cornell... baby step, baby steps.

there is a large difference between a man with no heart and that has heart.  there is alo a difference in a player that has heart with a lot of talent, as opposed to a player that has a little talent with heart.

every player in the iiac should have heart, or else why are tehy paying 30 g's to play football when they could pay 12 and just go to school?  heart is not a question in the IIAC or D3.  it more or less comes down to the talent you can recruit to the school

There has defenitely been a change happening at Cornell the past few years and most of it the common joe on the street doesn't see but if you are close to the program and talk to anyone in the program it is apparent that the attitude of the players has changed. There is much more discipline and also a bigger committment in the off-season...which in my opinion there is no off-season....you just aren't playing games. In my opinion to be successful you must put in the work from novemeber- august which is now happening. Cornell will win a conference game this year and I believe that some of their progress will begin to show on the field.
