And since swami appears to be off in his predictions.  I will make a prediction.

I predict if Walston Hoovers wife has another girl this month.  That within 10 years he will be coaching his girls youth soccer teams and wax poetically on here about why he favors the 3-5-2 over the 4-4-2!!!

20 years from now he will attend a Wartburg Womens Soccer game instead of a Wartburg Football game...he will remain quiet about that!!!

If his wife has a boy...then all bets are off!!!

Walston Hoover

Actually, little brother has already volunteered to take care of all soccer coaching duties. Softball and Basketball I can handle. Mom can handle VB. I will coach her in a sport, but it won't be soccer past about 2nd grade.

For taking over the swami spot you sure are hedging your bets are you not?  Boy talk about not going out on a limb.

I liked the prediction up until you said that he could have a boy.

Speaking of coaching I do miss coaching.  I used to love coaching the boys in baseball.  I did my share of yelling but never at an individual player.  I would be yelling at the team where the play was, or encouraging the kids.  I will never forget a player I had.  A good kid with a bat.  He had been beaned about a week before the last game of the year and would not stay in the box.  He was pretty timid and shy but a good stick.  For the last three games he would walk or strike out and never move the bat from his shoulders.  The team we were playing had to play a man down due to vacation schedule of a family so they played without a center fielder.  Bottom of the last inning and two out man on third down one, who is up.  I took him aside and told him he had to move the bat and get a hit.  He takes three strait pitches and was down 1-2.  Called a time out and told him I knew if he would just swing the bat he would hit it up center field to the fence and get a triple.  Darned if he didn't.  He did it and the smile on his face I will never forget when he got to third.  He got singled in the next batter and we won the game.  He was never afraid after that.  I wish I could see him today to see if he remembers that game.  There is nothing like volunteering you time to show the kids how to play a sport.  Somethings do last a life time.

Looks like the rest of America hates Wartburg as well.  Big Brother 10 contest Jessie from Rudd, IA got evicted last night after 'America's Player' went with a vote by the viewers to evict him.  I still think the producers did a good job of making him seem arrogant and cocky...although after seeing his interview after he was evicted, they might have been more right on than I thought.
I couldn't stand Jessie from the start.  Not sure if it was his arrogance or just his Wartburg shirt that did it.   ;D ;D ;D  But after listening to the women in the house the past couple of weeks, I'd take Jessie back.  Where do they find these people?  Even Ed Ollie's brother is letting me down.  If he doesn't watch out, he is going to be the first to become a father on BB.   ::)

I do miss coaching younger kids.I coached 5th and 6th flag football with my son's friends. We had fun and had a pretty successful team too. The best compliment I got was from a parent who said their son enjoyed it so much they wished I'd coach for their younger son.

I did coach my daughter in basketball one year. I was out of my league trying to coach girls. It was a lot easier with boys.

If you have that victory over Central I will gladly by you dinner.

Hmm, we are planning on being in Mt. Vernon for the Cornell/Central game.  I would offer to buy you a meal at  Chameleans but I bet bleu cheese burger baskets are not on your current diet plan.  How about if Dubuque beats Central this year I will bring a veggie burger and a veggie plate for the tailgate in Mt. Vernon.  If, as expected, Central beats Dubuque for the 21st time in a row.  You bring me a beer at that tailgate!!!

DF2k4...I'll take you to El Burrito before the UD / UoR game on 9/13...I don't know abou the quality of tailgating there in Redlands.

Since Cornell is probably concidered the 2008 last place team.

Let's look at the 7th place team in the conference, which team and how many wins? It's time for the message board media day forecast.

Based on last years record, I predict Loras with 1 conference win

vs Cornell

Well, that was the result last season. Until things change, I can live with your prediction.

That's between Loras, Luther, or BV. I don't expect to much from Simpson, but I do think they will finish ahead of these teams.

How far Luther will have fallen then from just a few years ago they were the up and coming team in the conference...sort of what UD is now...not sure why you think LC is gonna finish so far down...but fair enough we will just have to wait and see...

My prediction was based on last season.

I would like to see all of the second tier conference schools do better this season. It will help the conference. It will help the top teams to get better too.

I guess I'm like many Americas, I like to cheer for the underdog.

WH, I wouldn't be too sure of that if I were you.  Soccer hadn't yet arrived in central Illinois when I was growing up, so I had never played and knew NOTHING about the game when #1 son took it up in 1st grade.  The first year I just hung around practices, chasing down stray balls, setting up cones, comforting kids who got 'ouchies', etc.  Second year I was assistant coach - midway through the season the coach took a job in Tennessee, and the rest is history.  I fell in love with the game (it fit my skill set better than any other and would have been 'my sport' as a kid if it was around - I ended up playing in adult leagues into my fifties) and coached a dozen years.  (#1 son now regularly plays with or against d1 varsity players and holds his own, but isn't willing to make the time commitment to tryout for U of Michigan's team, and he does love coaching soccer and plans a career in sports administration.)

Purple Heys

Time rile some folks up...

I'm sold on Central continuing to be a preseason favorite.  Bottom line:  They win with almost frustrating reliability in the IIAC.  My opinion, hands down the best coaching staff in the IIAC.

On paper I should be sold that Wartburg should be as well...but...for the time I have been paying attention, the Kaniggets have found a way to NOT make it.  They have had their chances.  Maybe Willis is the key.  If the Kaniggets do not make the playoffs this season, THAT will make them the surprise team and could put them IMHO as being disappointing.

Dubuque, impressed me last year, but they lost significant talent in key locations.  This year is a test of their staying power.  And in a way, I am rooting for them because I see their success as demonstration of the possibilities.

Coe...listen to their faithful and you would think this is their year.  I don't buy it.  For the same reason one might cite as to why Cornell won't win a game, one can cite that Coe won't win this conference.  The teams that Coe would compete for the IIAC title are just better than Coe.  Wartburg is a better defensive team and brings back significant offensive firepower.  Central fits in new pieces and doesn't seem to skip a beat.  Both teams have better coaching.  How does one make an argument for Coe over either of these teams without seeming as delusional as ShowMe?

As for the rest...I'll piss you guys off in the next installment

BTW, I admire ShowMe's blind faith, but he shouldn't have more karma that DF2004. Heck, DF's earned more that me!

Thanks for your kind words Daddy.  The Karma thing does not bother me.  I am here to chat about IIAC/D3 football, have a good time, and to get away from the grind of life.  Karma does not have anything to do with life at all.  If it did TDT on the Minny board would have jumped off a roof some place by now.   :D :D :D

I agree that I don't lay awake at night worrying about my karma, but I still feel that you personally deserve a little respect and karma is one way to show it.
