After being frugal with having 4 kids and trying to afford that we can now treat ourselves with things now and then.  It is still sometimes hard to part with the money for them as we still think of ourselves in the parent supporting mode.   ;D ;D ;D

I don't know what all this talk of being frugal is about.  According to my wife, I apparently have everything a man could want.  And if I get it in my head I want something, she lets me know I actually don't and the problem goes away.  ;)

Are our wives related???  ;D ;D ;D

[WOW

I belive for the first time in my life, I'm speechless.

You Know My Friend, you should listen to the sounds in your head.
Now it's time for some Straight Talk, you need a new life!  8)

Maybe you should know me before you tell me to get a new life.

You said you where speechless, if that is true, then maybe somrthing is wrong because I can't see you being speechless in what was stated

Probably because after reading that post several times, I still can't quite figure out your point.

USA vs the dutch on USA live right now. The Dutch keeper, Vermeer (good Dutch name) is a friggen wall.

It would appear that Vermeer's wall has a hole in it.

Can you believe that game.  The US is up with only seconds to play and a yellow card and free kick turn into a tie game.  All things considered the US played really well.  I believe that Dutch team won the U-21 world championship the last two years.

The one day this year I sleep in and I miss a good soccer game  >:(

That is 1 win and 1 tie for the US.  They have a decent shot of getting into the 2nd round I believe.

Because I have a Favre like itch for football now, and very little I would sooner do, I went back and read over last years predictions for the season. (pages in the 300's) I found 29 different posters that gave their predictions. Only four of the twenty nine had the top four teams right. I eliminated "Orange" as he tabbed U.D. 2nd and Simpson dead last, and because he's not here to defend himself.
So, in third place, and Rookie of the year; Purple Heys. Only his beloved Rams and apparent distain for the Norse, kept him from the apex.
In what could only be an ironic twist of fate, losing a close one, DutchFan2004 gets the silver. Loras and BV let him down.
Only having Loras out of order, I give you prognosticator of the year 2007---

Great job gentlemen, I will pay special attention to your picks this year.

Other semi-valuable tidbits from last seasons predictions.
19 people correctly picked Central to win.
20 had Cornell last.
on average, BV and Loras were picked to finish 5th and 6th.
Simpson was barely rated higher than Cornell. Walston nailed that one as his surprise team.
And in the, "for what its worth catagory" Coe was on average ranked higher after the Suckow transfer then they were before. It was pretty easy to find that timeline.

Upper Iowa University Head Football Coach Mike Knoll has received commitments from fifty-one student-athletes to attend UIU and compete for the 2008 Peacock football team. The group of fifty-one includes three that started classes at Upper Iowa in January, ten that signed National Letters of Intent, eight transfers and two freshman that accepted scholarship offers, and twenty-eight student-athletes that have signed acceptance letters to Upper Iowa.

I found the above information on the Upper Iowa web-site.  I don't understand D2 scholarship limits, so I'm wondering if this talented group of football experts can explain what is going on.  Are 28 of the new players essentially walk ons?  What is the difference between the ten that signed letters of intent and the ten that accepted scholarships?  They must be different since it takes every group listed to get to the 51 players they indicated in the first sentence.  Maybe some of our old UIU friends like Doc Dorman or Peacock are still reading our drivel and would be willing to fill us in.

In reviewing the list, I'm impressed that UIU is getting quiet a few Iowa kids in the program.  Local flavor was something UIU lacked when it was still in the league.  Now they have kids on the roster that are smck dab in the area where Luther, Coe, Loras, and Wartburg find much of their talent.  That is the reason I asked the question above about scholarships.  It appears there aren't enough scholarships for all the players on the list of new comers.  Are some kids coming to Fayette in hopes of eventually earning a scholarship or am I missing something?  Perhaps some kids just want the D2 experience with or without the scholarship.  So, Doc or Peacock if you can enlighten us, join in the conversation.

For a brief period this morning, this was a very different kind of football board. I guess its time to throw out my predictions, albeit somewhat late. I'm just going with what I have picked up from the board. There is no scientific reasoning. I have no idea who is back for what teams, just some hunches. I think Cornell will knock off a traditional power this year. Possibly Coe and they will give Central and Wartburg a run for their money when they play.

1. Central
2. Wartburg
3. Coe
4. Dubuque
5. Loras
6. BV
7. Cornell
8. Luther
9. Simpson

You mean spending the better part of the last year in Afghanistan kept you from closely following every IIAC team???  That is hard to believe!!!  ;D

I liked your top 4 picks.  I think I would almost invert the last 5 on your list though!!!

For me this year is almost too hard to come out with predicted conference order until maybe 3 or 4 weeks into the season.

Here goes...should be interesting to see how different this is from my previous efforts over the last few months.

1. Central...they play Wartburg and UD at home
2. Wartburg...new old coach and playing at Central means I put them here
3. Coe...they like finishing here
4. Simpson...new coach gets the Storm playing together and brings fear into conference rivals over the future
5.  Dubuque...playing at Redlands, Central and Wartburg means they finish mid-table.
6. BV...solid recruiting classes but small roster size.
7. Luther
8. Cornell...this year begins the process of moving up the conference ladder
9. Loras...turning into a basketball school and Osty might be on thin ice after this year.

And I think the Northern Sun caps Schollies for football at 24.

Klop would be a good one to ask.  He played at Bemidji St. for a season before moving over to BV.  D2 traditionally has a bunch of players on partial...very partial scholarships.  In many cases you can play D3 football for about the same amount of out of pocket as you would in D2.  Some kids just like to say they played D2 and got a schollie!!!

I think the fact UIU is bringing in 51 new players to campus says something about their retention rates.  It looks like they are still having a hard time keeping players to stick around more than a year or two.  Just like when they were in the IIAC.

Usually they spit the scholarships up and give almost everyone a little . Kids just like to say I have a scholarship even if they pay more than if they went to an IIAC school. Its like yea I git money I'm cool. also UIU brings in big numbers every year Flordia kids go what did I get into ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
