Of course if you are talking about stumbling home from the Pour House, any wood at Kwik Star is amazing.

There are pills you can take for that nowadays.

Here is a hypothetical for you.

There has been talk on here of posters from schools at the bottom end of the standings that join in the discussion here and then when their season goes into the tank these posters dissappear.

There has also been talk on here about the recruiting process and players choosing their school because they didn't want to play for a loser.

Now, every poster on here, regardless if they had a winning or losing football team, loved their time at their school and has great memories of their school.

We also note that the programs with the winning records have more posters on this site.

So, if suddenly Central and Wartburg and Coe became traditional 2-8 teams.  Would their fan base become a little more hands off???  Still love their school and team but start following them less and less as the years went on???  Go to fewer games...talk on here less???  Just curious.

Greetings IIAC football fans!

I've been a lurker for a couple of years, and enjoy the banter!

Posting today for historical purposes only, specifically regarding Nebraska Wesleyan athletic superiority.  Don't know what they've done recently in FB, but Central pasted them 34-8 my senior year and the year after as well.

Also for the identity record, I'm a Central FB alum, & modern day Dutch SuperFan, Class of '84.  Even more, I'm a great believer in Iowa small college education and am proud of the entire IIAC.  (I can say that now that Wm Penn and UIU "done graduated".)

Keep up the good work.

Welcome aboard.  I've added you to the list of IIAC fans on here so it is current as of 12:01 EDT.

I still have connections to the program and invested too much time both during and after graduation in Wartburg to quit following them.

Not that I think it will happen.  And not that I think if it did people would stop being fans.  I just wondered if being a fan would take somewhat of a back seat for them.  For fans of a school like Dubuque.  We have been at the bottom.  To see a bit of success now, we are soaking it in, but we know we could easily go back to where we were.  For the most part we accept that.  For a Central fan, or a Wartburg fan from the last 25 years or so.  They don't know any other way but winning.  I just wasn't sure how they would be able to handle the other side of things.

Again, not likely to happen...but that is what hypotheticals are!!!

I think fans still follow their teams just not as much fun too talk on fan boards when they are not winning. This time of year everyone is 0-0 so everyone feels good about their team :-X :-X :-X :-X

Yeah, we usually run and hide out on the D3kicks Boards come October and November, its pretty sad.  I'll do my best to hang around, maybe the team will help out this season and pick up some late season victories.

And, wow, we need to get a few more Loras fans on here so we can climb out of the fanbase cellar. I need to petition some Duhawk faithful to get excited about a turn-a-round season as the folks down in Mt. Vernon are.

COY for this year.  If the coach of the team goes 10-0 they get it.  If one of the new coaches with the exception of Willis gets second in the conference and makes the playoffs they will get it.  If one of the new coaches including Willis ties for the conference championship they will get it.  If two of the new coaches tie they will both get it.  I don't see Coach McMartin getting it unless he finishes undefeated.  If that happens he deserves it after all the losses from graduation.  That has not been done by Central since Schipper in the 80's.

Players of note on the team.  Spencer Remick OL  David Zachery RB Curtis Brondyke punter and Jake Viggars Kicker.

Central-Wartburg  7-1 Conference  Central 9-1 Wartburg 8-2 Both both get to the playoffs.

Coe  7-3

Simpson-UD 5-5

BV-Cornell  3-7

Loras-Luther 2-8

If an IIAC team gets a 2-3 seed I see a three game playoff run.

There is a guy back home that went to Luther and he still talks like they are the top of the conference.  Of course when he was there they were the best.  Wartburg was not a contender like they are now.  So he still stands by the Norse (or I guess it was Norsemen back then right?).  We always have a few words for each other each fall as we know the big game is coming up.  So if Wartburg were to fall and not be in the top 3, I know I would still stick around.  Just like everyone else who has played for a IIAC on here we put so much of our blood and sweat into bringing pride to our team that we would never bail.  Every guys has put in a lot of themselves whether the team finished first or last, they still brought pride to their respective program.

As much as I love football if Central did go on the skids I don't think I would post less and I will not attend less games.  The only thing that will keep me away from games is distance or weather.  I don't think I will ever sit through another ice storm again.   ;D ;D
