PH should forget about sending the Carne Asada to the Rams and send a case over to Walston Hoover pronto!!!  Hot mexican food followed by a bumpy car ride just might induce labor  ;D

My wife told me tonight that even she is ready for football.  She grew up in a very non-sports liking family.  I guess after 8 years of marriage I am starting to influence some of her likes  ;D

Doolittle this sounds like my wife.  One of three girls and not into sports at all.  Boy was she in for a shock after we were married.  My family always had a Thanksgiving football game.  Aunts, uncles, cousins.  So when she came into the family it was sink or swim.  That and having four boys that playes at least three sports each in HS she got quite the dose of sports.  Now she is as knowledgable about football as most men.  She is ready for football too.  Though she did say if it rains or is cold I am on my own to watch it now.  Just doesn't have the same draw when your kid is not out there.   ;D ;D ;D

Last year you caught her scolding your son because she didn't think he was checking down on his reads very well  ;D

My roomate from freshman year told me the story of how he got a concussion in a football game his sophmore year in high school.  They were taking him to the hospital and the administration went into the crowd to tell his mom this.  When they told her, she had no idea he had been hurt because she had been busy reading her Halequin romance novel!!!

We are coming up on our 41st wedding anniversary on 8/26.  My wife says the next time she gets married, it won't be just before the beginning of football season.

I was thinking of McClaren (sp?).  Thanks for clarifying.

1. The Chalupa - God's greatest invention
2. The Cheesy Gordita Crunch (when available)
3. The Quasidilla
4. The Soft shell Taco (i know simple)

Hey, lets not gang up on the man because he's a fan.  I'll love the Cubbies next year even when they do lose the WS this year.  But to clarify a point in your post, DEPTH, ShowMe, its what makes Central and Wartburg's special teams something special and keeps them in those games into the 4th qtr when the opponents had a chance all game.  You can get by through a few games with 35-40 good players, but that does not make a season.  I still think an IIAC win is in the Rams future this year.

You Know, My Friend, time for some Stratight Talk,

I'm starting to see the light, Central has a good program and it would be an honor to defeat them at some point, whether it's this year, time will tell. For us, it would be an Rudy story line to make an impact with 35-40 solid players, a good movie. We are setup for an underdog tear jerker. But if 4o solid players is all we have, as long as we fight like Spartans, the movie, (not the IIAC Spartans, no pun intended), I like our chances. You have to have a heart! This is the year to show progress.

On the Wartburg side, I beleive they are a good team but is the history of the program similiar to Central?

Here is the link to the Central media guide.  Lots of interesting stuff.  Good source of info about the Dutch.

Very impressive football record

If you consider being at or near the top of the conference for 40+ years, 1 national title and 2 other finals appearances impressive  ;D
You have to have something to back up our arrogance! :o :o

Wartburg has built its football program up a lot in the past decade, but call me arrogant all you want, there is only one team in the conference with that kind of success for all but one of more than 40 years.  Ron Schipper is the reason and, bless his soul, Ron Schipper will continue to influence Central College teams for many years yet even though he is gone.  He was a truly great man, father and coach.

did McGrew get reinstated to Loras?
That was their running back from 2 years ago, no?

I didn't get a chance to read any season preview on Loras but I saw him listed as a Jr. on the All-Conference Team and had some decent yearly stats.  If he is playing as a Sr. I would assume he will be the biggest Offensive threat for the Duhawks.

I would agree with that.  If they can get someone that is accurate to throw the ball with him in the backfield they could give some teams fits.

While we are on the subject of Loras,  I will throw this thought out there.  Do you think Coach O is kind of a front half of the season coach?   Meaning that while I have been following the IIAC for four years now, at BV and at Loras his teams seem to do ok at the front half of the season and then fall off the pace.  4 years ago at BV they were in the IIAC Crown/Playoff hunt and fell apart at the end of the year.  Loras seems to do ok in the first part of the season and then fall apart.  Does anyone else have that feeling?

I was a soph. on the BV team that fell apart in that year and a lot of the time we weren't aggressive enough. We'd run a lot when we should have thrown things like that. A lot of the fault can't be contributed to him for that season because we just plain thought we had it in the bag.

Thanks for the info.  I am not trying to start something here.  Just was an observation that he seems to get his teams ready for the season but somehow it falls apart.  Injuries and other things can contribute to it as well.

Right on.  You are soooo right here.  Coach Schipper will influence the team for years to come as most of the coaches on the staff now served under or played for him.  Even the AD was influenced by him.  From knowing him the only thing that I would change was putting father first.  From what I have come to know that is the order he would have wanted to be remembered.  Family first and that is what he wanted his team known as, a family.

Yeah he's a decent coach just sometimes is a little too passive on play calls. And you totally right he gets the team ready for the season but lack of depth and injuries always seems to get him.

HoosierinIowa

At the start of the summer I was ready to pick Coe to win the league. With Willis back I will now put Wartburg first. I think Willis is that good a coach.

Coe and Central will battle for second but I think Central lost to many seniors to beat either Coe or Wartburg. One thing that concerns me as a Central fan is that the Dutch won so many games the past couple of years on guts with some luck thrown in rather than on overwhelming talent. I just don't see a team with so many new starters having the cohesion to win as many close games.

I am going to drink the Kool Aid and pick Simpson to finish fourth. I thought they had some talent a year ago and maybe the coaching change will light the proper fires.

I think Loras will edge Dubuque for fifth. Dubuque had so much ability last year and didn't get it done.

Cornell over Luther for seventh.

My best prediction is that my predictions will be totally wrong.
