Over 2 hours between posts on a Friday??? What is wrong with you people???
Question of the day-August 16-
This was talked about probably 2 years ago, but what HS teams do you pull for/follow and why.
I've gotta run to the bank and I will be back to talk about mine.

Strange that I like high school sports...but I really only pull for/follow Union of La Porte City.  In the days of the old NICL I suppose I would have rooted for any of the conference teams come playoff time.  But since they expanded the conference and since there is also football districts now.  I pretty much don't know who is who outside of following my home town team.

Much different when it comes to college sports.  Dubuque, followed by any other IIAC team.  Iowa Hawkeyes first and then I also root for ISU and UNI when they aren't playing the Hawks.  Will probably root for UNI over ISU because of my proximity to UNI and I like rooting for the underdog.  Now I can say I follow Cincy since spurriers son is playing for them.  I am often not sad if Notre Dame loses!!!

West Delaware -- as a proud alumnus, I always keep tabs on how well the Hawks are doing.
Southeast Polk -- My roommate's cousin played FB there, so we were known to catch the occassional Friday night game.
Pella High -- as a former coach, Pella High news is interesting. I don't actively follow, though.

Green Mountian-Garwin!! Woot! Yeah we haven't done anything in football for 21 years but I'm still pullin' for the ole alma mater (Beat North Tama!).  Being as I'm from a place like that I'll always have a special place for all the small schools out there. Also, now that I'm in Dubuque, I tend to cheer for the Rams, Mustangs, and Eagles in 4A/3A.
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

On Friday nights you can find me pulling for two teams:
Cascade, and who ever is playing Beckman!

I also root for any school where I've got a friend on the coaching staff (Dowling, IC West, etc) and Cedar Falls.  I did their games on the radio a couple years back and will probably start following them again now that I'm back in town.

Go Hawks! I hated playing Columbus -- when I played basketball, there was a girl that intentionally threw elbows (conveniently in the direction of my face). A bloody nose and a black eye later, and it was crowned my least favorite place to play, even though we won.   :(

Chariton, as I am an alum,  Wayne of Corydon as my wife is an alum, Eldora New Providence, as all four of my boys are alums, any NICL team as I got to know these teams following them when my kids were playing.  I love Friday night games.  I look forward to seeing some games this fall.

DF1 what did you coach at Pella?

Are all teams in camp ??? The season has started  8) 8)

Dubuque appears to be in camp...I can see them on the field practicing...unless that is a voluntary workout!!!  I love webcams!!!

Walston Hoover

Obviously as I prowl the sidelines for Dowling, I'm pulling for us.
A-P as I am an alum and they should be VERY good this year.
Valley of Elgin-Where my parents and several cousins went to school-always like to see them do well.
Williamsburg-Help out at one of their camps and Coach Ritchie is a good guy
Dallas Center-Grimes-Coach Heitland was my jr high coach in every sport and HS baseball coach and I help out at one of his camps
Waverly-Coach Hubbard is a high school teammate of mine and we discuss lots of football at lots of weddings.
North Tama-Krusey was a good friend in HS and in college and his sister and my wife are best friends.
Teams I don't care for-
Dike New Hartford- They ruined my sr year
Iowa Falls- We had 3000 people between 2 towns, they had 10000 people (at least that's what it seemed like) and for some reason we were in the same class. I have a very strong dislike for them.
Ended VB, FB and baseball seasons my sr year.
Ackley-Geneva Wellsburg Steamboat Rock (Agweiser)-Never played them in anything. Just really don't like them.
Valley-They could go 0-9 and lose every game by 50 for all I care. I like the coaches, players are nice guys, but I am not allowed to think pleasant thoughts about Valley
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

When did you graduate?

WD had pretty decent games with most schools in the conference -- West Dubuque, Vinton, South Tama, Benton Community, Independence....after the basektball incident, you guys were right down on the list with Independence.  ;D

WH, what's the word on A-P football this season? No matter what other school I am rooting for, I'm pulling for the Falcons all the way!

WH, is Dave Harwood on the staff at Dowling???  If not, then I think he might coach at Valley.  The two of us were friends all the way back in high school...so very long ago now!!!
