The beavers had 46 frosh come in, who knows how many will stay out be the season starts, usually 2-3-4-5 quit,  but over the last two years, 46 freshman is almost double from last year, and the year before.  Looking at the size of these kids, and some young men from Texas, the beavers look promising this year and to years to come.  Please keep in mind, I am in no way saying that coming from Texas, the kids are any better than any player coming from Iowa.

Texas ball players are likely to be well-coached and fundamentally sound players.

I would need to see where they played (private school or UIL) what awards they won and size and speed to give you an idea of what type of potential that they have.

High school football in Texas is a "rite of passage", and most players aren't college material.  Nevertheless, there are few things better than playing on Friday night in Texas.   ;)

Can someone post a link to the Register coverage, specifically the story on Tommy Breitbach? I can't seem to find it on their Web site.

Too bad for April on Big Brother, eh?
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

For all you Ram fans...Dallas Bush did report to camp! Ran into coach Dillon at the grocery store and he said he is there and ready to play. Now all he has to do is stay healthy so we don't go back to playing with a frosh qb.

Over/Under bet- 15,600 posts from Ralph Turner

I'll take the under on the total # of posts that we all  combine for on the IIAC page..

Walston,
congrats on adding the little setter to the family.

Bolt's 9.69 100 time last night

according to ESPN, supposedly translates into a 3.55 40 time.

Considering Deion Sanders ran one of the fastest 40 times ever  (4.19ish I think)  that just doesn't seem humanly possible does it?

Then again, it was insane how easily he won that race with coasting in the last 15 meters

If you heard that right, that was a totally stupid comment by (whoever at) ESPN.

Even if speed were constant across the 100 meters, 40% of 9.69 is 3.876, not 3.55.  And clearly there is acceleration (especially by Usain!) during the race.

This is an important piece to reach potential, good news

I think Walston would say and many other on here that Friday Nights in Iowa are pretty special as well.

Here is an article I am sure will spark debate.

http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/94/opinions_college08_Americas-Best-Colleges_Rank.html

Forbes made a ranking of colleges.  569 in all I think.  I scanned it quickly so I might have missed some schools.

Cornell was tops for the IIAC coming in at 71.  Finishing higher than Cornell University at 121...also finishing higher than Notre Dame at 77, Johns Hopkins at 81, and Grinnell at 107!!!

Coe came in at 182
Luther at 188
Simpson at 241
Wartburg at 430
Central at 554

I didn't see Dubuque, Loras, or BV in there  ???

Also of note there was Iowa at 331, UNI at 472, Drake at 486 and ISU at 563!!!

Hey!  We win one!

This the kind of spontaneous advertising that makes people!   :D

Another Knight fan entered the world at 1:56 this morning and God is chuckling away after giving me 2 girls.
Elisa Joy (Ellie) is 7 lb, 2 oz and 19 inches long. Has a nice head of blonde hair like her mom and sister and is quite a cutie if I do say so myself.
Mom and baby are doing excellent.
I am beat.
For the last 4 weeks I've had my phone on me at football practice and even the slightest twitch or sound had me going for it. Go figure my wife calls me for over an hour last night trying to get a hold of me and I never heard a thing. She got a hold of Coach WIlson and he tracked me down.
Its going to take quite a while to make up for that one.

Congrats Walston!  Hope all is well.

I found it to be quite the adjustment adding 2 to the mix for about the first month to 6 weeks.  My father-in-law called it quits after his 3rd daughter, but he got a little redemption with a grandson 4 months ago.
