Texas ball players are likely to be well-coached and fundamentally sound players.

I would need to see where they played (private school or UIL) what awards they won and size and speed to give you an idea of what type of potential that they have.

High school football in Texas is a "rite of passage", and most players aren't college material.  Nevertheless, there are few things better than playing on Friday night in Texas.   ;)

Friday nights in North County San Diego, perhaps?   8)

I think Walston would say and many other on here that Friday Nights in Iowa are pretty special as well.

As a man facing the prospect of having free Friday nights in the fall for the first time since 2002 (and only the third season since 1997) I'd have to agree with that statement.

Here is an article I am sure will spark debate.

http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/94/opinions_college08_Americas-Best-Colleges_Rank.html

Forbes made a ranking of colleges.  569 in all I think.  I scanned it quickly so I might have missed some schools.

Cornell was tops for the IIAC coming in at 71.  Finishing higher than Cornell University at 121...also finishing higher than Notre Dame at 77, Johns Hopkins at 81, and Grinnell at 107!!!

Coe came in at 182
Luther at 188
Simpson at 241
Wartburg at 430
Central at 554

I didn't see Dubuque, Loras, or BV in there  ???

;D

Hey!  We win one!

This the kind of spontaneous advertising that makes people!   :D

I am counting this as our first IIAC win of the season.

Can you feel it?  The momentum building is almost tangible.

If anyone is interested in seeing some footage of one of BV's freshmen, search for "Jorge Mata" on YouTube.

For all you Ram fans...Dallas Bush did report to camp! Ran into coach Dillon at the grocery store and he said he is there and ready to play. Now all he has to do is stay healthy so we don't go back to playing with a frosh qb.

This is an important piece to reach potential, good news

Any other QB's make it in besides Dallas? Even though he got some playing time late into the season last year, it would seem that he is still pretty green. The Rams haven't seemed to have much luck, er...talent at that position since Chris Lovely. I would think that the prospects of a more than one or two win season would crumble without other capable back ups available.

Certainly, having an incumbent with experience, even a little bit, is a plus.  Young Mr. Bush is the QB of the now and present future.

I think that he will have a better feel for the game speed going in, along with the benefit of a scrimmage and a nonconference game against a Grinnell to build some confidence.

There are new backups I hear, one in particular is a big kid (6'5" or so).

It will be interesting...

Wouldn't it be funny if football were officiated the same way a Olympic boxing?

3 of the 5 official would have to call the same foul within 1 second and it would be totally anonymous.

Make that...wouldn't it be sad?

???

THIS...

...is the hardest time of year for me.  At least with games I can read a paper or listen on the internet or at very least read a box score.

There are no daily recaps at the D3 level.   :(

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!
Breakfast time.

I have never been to a Texas HS football game, nor do I know how the population is spread around to the various schools. I will not dispute the numbers of players that have huge talent levels down there either. All I will say is I grew up at a HS in a town of less than 2000 people, and it was not uncommon to have 3000 people at the "sacred acre" on Friday nights. 4 current NFL players experienced the same thing I did.

Now in a town of 52,000 people, only 12000 show up to watch the intra-city game between us and Valley, seems kind of anticlimatic  :-\
Absolutely incredible atmosphere and each place is special in its own right.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

We are the fans, we should ask the SID's to provide, let the SID's know if you agree, I know some are reading the message board

There is some truth to the statement about Texas football, you have to give the players from Texas, Florida and California some credit until they have a chance to prove it.

It is a terribly sad situation at Huntingdon.  Wartburg had a similar event happen when I was a sophomore.  It certainly puts sports in a different perspective.

I heard a rumor that Hey's Jr is looking good, is it true?

Where is our eyewitness reporter or the SID report?

Looks like one of my prediction has a chance.

Oh, the 3rd potential all conference player is our safety Bladt

AEN:

So how many new Knights showed up for the first day of football?  ???

Any Ryan Winters type difference makers decide to transfer in?  ;D

As far as numbers, Coach Willis said there were about 135 in camp. This would put the freshmen numbers around 60. No word on any impact players tyransferring in.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Texas, Florida, and California all produce great numbers of great football players.  I think Iowa does a decent job of turning out football players considering our population base...and weather!!!

That said, I think just being from Texas or Florida or Cali doesn't mean you will come into the IIAC and start dominating as a freshman.  We have seen that at Dubuque.  Get these guys to stick around for 4 years and then you will see some all-conference performers.
