Stanley is a receiver/kick returner.

Are there any other D3 guys we should be watching for in the NFL?  This is Stanley's first year correct?  I assume with some good coaching he might start catching some more and taking a bigger role.
Stanley is in his 2nd year. A St. Olaf reciever, Gant I believe, is or was with Washington.

What is more fun to watch as a fan?  Winning a super close game or doing a monkey stomp on a team that you were not predicted to beat?  For Central last year had both with the 3 OT win over Dubuque and the easier than anticipated victory over SJU.  I only listened to the DBQ game, but witnessed the SJU game, so that probably plays into it, but given our playoff history, I would say the SJU was more fun.  What about the rest of you and when was it?

Over 2 hours between posts on a Friday??? What is wrong with you people???
Question of the day-August 16-
This was talked about probably 2 years ago, but what HS teams do you pull for/follow and why.
I've gotta run to the bank and I will be back to talk about mine.

Gotta go with my alma matar the Spring Grove Lions!  Everyone loves a good game of 9-man football.  Although I can't believe it means taking away two of the best athletes off the field by dropping the o-line down to 3 guys.  Oh yeah, and anyone who plays Mabel-Canton.

As far as IA teams I cheer for the Fredricksburg-Sumnar Falcon-Aces (roommates alma matar).  And yes I know it's not the Falcon-Aces (mascot skips my mind right now...but that would have been a cleaver one).  Also, Benton Community...watched a game there freshman year with a couple of guys from the team and now one of my old roommates coaches FB there.  For my old boss ("former" I guess...not age wise) at Warburg I even pull for East Waterloo a little...pretty sure that is where he went to school.  Finally, I have to say AP.  Yes, seeing how they come back after what happened over the summer, but also played with two good guys from there.  Worked in TV with one and will be working with one interviewing this fall.  Also, everytime I was in the Packers locker room I made the reporter interview Aaron Kampman because he was such a great down to earth guy.

Hmm, that is a tough one.  I am going way back here but I can think of Iowa/Michigan 1985.  A tough, hard fought game decided in the last minute.  And then there was the Iowa/Illinois game in 1990...Iowa put up 50 something on a highly ranked Illini team.  Made extra sweet because of all the Illinois fans in my dorm that year.

I think both types of games are just as fun to watch.  I suppose the monkey stomp might win over the nail biter...strictly because you don't have to worry about a trip to the hospital from cardiac arrest!!!

As a fan, I would say winning a super close game.  Yeah, you might be predicted to lose a game, but we all know that once you step onto that field predictions go out the window.  I'm sure ShowMe will agree with that.  Close games provide that extra emotion.  Where your heart falls when a guy drops a pass or your team turns the ball over.  Then the excitement with a big stop or get the ball back.

As far as playing, I would say both are equally great.  Obviously if you hear people say you will lose and show them that you can actual dominate instead, makes for a great pride boost.  But knowing you had that little extra that day to pull out a close win, especially if both teams played their best, feels great.  When you eek out a close win after a day of mistakes and playing like crap, it's harder to feel good about.

Two of my personal examples...in high school we weren't going to win all the games, but we weren't the bottom of the league.  Well when the bottom team (hadn't won a conference game in a few years and really hadn't improved) started talking smack all week long saying how they were just going to blow us out of the water, it really fired our team up.  Went out and put up 52 points in the first half.  Our FB broke the school career record that day.  Pretty much didn't play the second half as we put in all freshman and sophomores.  In college, I think the playoff game in 2003 when the selection show for D3 was talking about how Bethel didn't have an easy bracket as they had Linfield to face if they wanted to go to the Stagg Bowl.  Well Linfield was round 2...Wartburg was round 1.  Went on to beat Bethel and staying with Linfield the whole way.

I believe they are the Cougars now.  That's a good choice for a mascot.

Finally, I have to say AP.  Yes, seeing how they come back after what happened over the summer, but also played with two good guys from there.

For anyone that hasn't heard, KWWL in Waterloo is going to broadcast AP's first home game on Sept. 6 live from Parkersburg, on top of their usual Friday night football coverage.  Not sure if they are going to webcast as well, but it wouldn't be a half-bad idea.

What about the Beaver kid from Whitewater?  Is he still with the Packers?

Who are the contenders for the QB spot for the Dutch.  I know they have Nate Snead and Zach Bandow.  Are there any others that could push for the starting spot?

Jared (spelling) Lackey is another one that played a little last year at QB

Don't get him started. I'm not sure I can take another chapter of "Rudy" today.

And were gonna win....win, win, win.  I dont care if I have 30 guys from coal mining towns who grew up on food stamps and the black lung.  Were gonna out play them, out heart them, and out think them.  I dont care if I have to field a team of 9 guys were still gonna stick the run, intercept the pass, and sack the QB.  And when the day is done you will all see.  30 men who are, undersized,  with bones broken, noses bleeding, and metally exhausted will claim, the crown, win the prize, and feed the crow to the naysayers.

Sorry I just got going on the Rudy theme ;D

i think it kind of depends on the situation.  if it is the last game of the season, and a playoff spot is on the line.  as a fan i would think it would be great to watch a game where your team is clicking on all cylinders, and there is no doubt.  creates a fun atmosphere in teh stands.
i would say that it is probably more exciting, just for the mere adreniline factor, to watch a game that goes down to the final play.  everyone is on the edge of your seats.

that is a difficult question.  i would like the mix.  a close game, but in the end your team pulls away and seals the victory early in the 4th/late in the 3rd.
