It's always fun to stomp a rival by a bajillion points, but the most fun I ever had was playing in games where we scored on the last drive to take the lead.  As nail-biting as it can be, nothing is as much fun to talk about with buddies than the fact the team did it in crunch time and won the game.

No offense, but as a Cornell fan, how would you know?

Ha! that was below the belt, a low blow. Thats going to bring Cornell joy when we do have some offense. It will make me Laugh. :D

Time for some straight talk my friends....The key word is highlighted above ;D

Do you know what the dog said,..... when the lawn mower ran over his tail?

It want be long now!  :) :) :) :)

Either you have a type-o here or this went way over my head ;D ;D ;D ;D

You missed it,

It want be long before Cornell has some offense

Dang, you messed up a good one

I know Cornell wants an offense.  What does wanting and time have to do with one another.  Do you mean won't be long?

yes

The Spartans have some fire on offense, might be the most athletic team in the conference? Could be as good as reining top 3.

Well, Dubuque was 3rd last year...so are you asking if they are as good as last years team???  ;D

And I know you probably didn't mean it in a bad way.  But I get a little tired of people describing Dubuque as athletic.  These guys are also good football players.  I have more than once listened to a webcast where the announcers said that Dubuque won because they were better athletes.  Just maybe, Dubuque won the game because they had better FOOTBALL players!!!  End of rant, sorry about that.

An athlete playing football is a football player. In football, you put your atheletes in position to make plays. The more athletes the more plays, the more plays, the more victory, it's a food chain and it's still a compliment.

I believe they are the Cougars now.  That's a good choice for a mascot.

I prefer my cougars to be quite a few years removed from high school.

You're on a roll tonight BOY.  Better save some of this "A" material for the season though.

Haha, don't worry, being a smartass is my specialty.  By the way, when I read a sentence where someone abbreviates my screenname as above, my inner monologue sounds like a southern sheriff.  I can't wait for the day when I piss someone off and they say "Listen BOY, we don't like your kind around here."

Who are the contenders for the QB spot for the Dutch.  I know they have Nate Snead and Zach Bandow.  Are there any others that could push for the starting spot?

How is Zach Bandow related to Joe?  I'm assuming they're cousins or even further removed because you'd have to peel quite a few layers off of Joe Bandow to go come up with anything even remotely resembling a QB.  I don't see him and Zach coming from the same womb.  Unless, of course, they had an athletic mailman.

Joe's dad and Zach's dad are brothers.

Not that it matters, but what's up with season previews? I know Coe's was sent to Pat nearly two weeks ago, yet it's still not there. I also think, though do not know it for a fact, that it was done before Simpson and Dubuque, though those previews are posted. Just curious. If you want to read the Coe preview, it's available at http://www.coe.edu/athletics/football/releases/2008_09/seasonpreview080608.htm.

Feel free to boo me off the board for this comment.  I know some were a little upset that I said I liked watching a live soccer game ;)  BUT it was pretty cool seeing Shawn Johnson standing at the top of the podium tonight with a gold medal.  What a great thing for the state of Iowa.  Ok back to football and smartass comments now :-*

I don't want to say his name (I don't know why though), but he started at RB in 2006.  Camp started without him, so I shouldn't have the reservations about releasing his name.

The Norse had one offensive rookie of the year in 2005 and two defensive rookies that year.  Jerry Jaeger (former LB) was not able to play last year and probably will not this year.  With the additional loss of the RB, only Cody Webb remains on the team from those three.  Jaeger and the RB were the Iowa Shrine Bowl players from that recruiting class as well.

It is too bad as the Jaeger and the RB were lots of fun to watch back then on special teams and in backup roles on defense and offense respectively.  Those two were really good on kickoff team back then.

Sadly Floyd that doesn't surprise me to much, I know that he got off to a rough start with the new coaching staff, also a transfer a running back came in and from what I heard looked pretty good in spring practice. So I don't think that helped him out much either. He had some trouble showing up to team workouts also. Unfortunately though for a team with a lot of question marks on the offensive side of the ball his experience would have been nice to have.

I have heard the same good things about the new transfer RB.  I guess he and the RBs at camp are the only ones that matter at this point.

I heard tonight that this transfer RB that the coaches were so high on didn't show up to camp either...sounds like the Norse are going to be pretty thin in the backfield...question marks just keep piling up for them...

Shawn Johnson was fantastic (cute, too)!

And, regardless of the potential boos, I love soccer. ;D

Because I have a backlog of season previews in my inbox, we gave SIDs access to post previews from their login.

Kickoff (t-minus 7 days) is the priority above and beyond anything else right now.

Cornell finally got an updated roster on its website and I am very pleased with what I saw on paper.  Lots of OL, especially with size, and defensive backs, two areas we needed bodies at.  Now I know everyone is going to say that well its just on paper, and lots of times numbers are inflated or whatever.  Regardless, I counted 63 names, which is a few more than I was expecting, considering some of the rumors I had been hearing about kids deciding not to play anymore.  The smallest OL being listed at 242 even though he is listed at 6'3", meaning he should take advantage of the buffet meals in teh Commons to grow into his body.  Overall, it looks like we have an incoming class that is well balanced, bringing in kids to fill every position.  I just hope that their potential is as good as it looks on paper.  One thing that's a little disappointing was there was no one listed just a kicker, but oh well, I can't get everything at once I guess.

+K for you.  Yes it isn't exactly football, but still getting someone from West Des Moines IA winning gold medal in the Olympics was pretty impressive.  Even if it was in gymnastics.  I hear the Olympic Committee is getting rid of Softball because USA always dominates.  They are outscoring opponents like 50 to 1.  Crazy!  Since they are dropping Softball, maybe we can add Football....no?

Clearly, with that logic, EVERYbody that played or will play for the Kaniggets was on a winning team in HS and EVERYbody that played or plays for Cornell never won a game.

That is the kind of myopia that gets ShowMe started.
