From the CR Gazette story I am sure Purple Heys will like this line...

Offensively, there is a strong nucleus at the skill positions with returning starters Hardman, tight end Alex Macey and sophomore quarterback Dallas Bush. Dillon called Macey the best tight end in the IIAC and Bush one of its top future overall players

My favorite line from the article was...

There were a couple of close losses, including a 25-20 toughie to Luther, but there also were some blowouts, like that 61-21 debacle against Dubuque.

"Everybody in the conference always downplays us, thinks that we're not going to do anything," said Cornell running back Travion Hardman.
Yep. And until they do, we will continue to think that.
Lots of talk coming from Mt Vernon right now.

Like they say talk is cheap. and it isn't bragging if you can back it up. Its time to back it up  :'( :'( :'( :'(

it almost seems like there is a ton of talk comming out of Mt Vernon right now.  i can't wait until Coe pops the balloon and brings Cornell back down to earth.  I'm sorry, but everyone in Cornell is talking like they have done something in the past couple years when in all honestly they haven't done jack.  They are almost putting a mark on their back to make sure people notice them.  if i were them i would want to fly waaayy under the radar until the first conference game.  It's great that Cornell has a good amount of players comming back (for them).  Everyone else has at least that amount of players comming back.

on a side note, Coe scrimmages Grand View today -- hate the choice to scrimmage a weaker team because it doesn't really tell you where you need to be the following week.  It will be nice to blow out the opposition, but that's not what a scrimmage is for.

A crappy team like Cornell needs to have confidence and talk that way to even give themselves the thought in their mind that they have a chance to keep scores close, let alone win a game this year. If Cornell goes out and gets out-physicalled in a scrimmage against Grand View's team of freshmen and transfers, there will be no confidence left.
I see the same thing with HS teams who have been crappy for a long time. They talk amongst themselves and to everyone else that they are the team to beat. The good teams go into media days and talk about how good everyone else is going to be.
If it wouldn't be for a couple Cornell posters spewing their propaganda on this site, we wouldn't talk about them at all and they would be an afterthought just like they are on the field.

Coe scrimmages Grand View -- Cornell does also?
I would try to keep the talking in house though.  Maybe something like: we respect this conference.  it is a very hard place to play.  hopefully we can take a step in the right direction this year.

It is funny the way some people think.  A poster on the Des Moines Register site noted if Grandview couldn't beat Coe in their scrimmage they would have a long year.  In their mind since Grandview offers scholarships and Coe doesn't, that makes Coe the inferior team.  I got a good chuckle out of that thinking.

yeah, but if it isn't in central DM, the register doesnt really care.  Grand View is located there, so they will think they are better.  the register sucks

I agree, long gone are the days when I eagerly waited for the Sunday Register and the Big Peach.  Able to get stories on pretty much anything to do with Iowa college football.

Good thing we have this site!!!

I dont know if anyone has checked out the Grand View website, but if you have time check it out.  They have an army of coaches.  I could not believe how many people they had on board.  I guess you might need a lot of minds to get a program started.  Looked to be a few guys with CIML coaching experience at Johnston and Dowling.

Believe me I assume that GVC will get rolled this season, but it will be interesting to see how they compete with all freshman and sophmores.  It would be a long season on the east side.

Interesting how Dordt chose to play a season of junior varsity ball before tackling their first season of varsity while Grandview decided to jump into the pool feet first!!!

Also interesting that the NAIA is losing teams and are down to about 90 nationwide now but there have been 4 new football programs go NAIA in Iowa.  William Penn left D3 and then Briar Cliff, Dordt and now Grandview have started new programs.  Seems a bit odd that many schools are jumping off the NAIA boat while you have some Iowa schools joining up.

Pretty good for a 3A HS team to compete in the always tough IIAC.

And they got first mention too!  They must really be dominant! ::)

I would guess that GVC feels that the scholarship angle is better PR than the FA thing in D3.  They will learn in a hurry what brand of football is played in the IIAC and D3.

Mav45, maybe Dillon arranged a "Tonya Harding" on Jordan's knee so he could claim best TE in the conference :o :o :o

Just kidding, still a huge blow to Central to lose him.

Great press, Heys, congratulations!
