It is funny the way some people think.  A poster on the Des Moines Register site noted if Grandview couldn't beat Coe in their scrimmage they would have a long year.  In their mind since Grandview offers scholarships and Coe doesn't, that makes Coe the inferior team.  I got a good chuckle out of that thinking.

The register is clueless they think about DM only.. They used to be good now they want to sell papers and reporting is terrible.  They need to look to Omaha paper there they cover all schools  :o :o :o :o

"Everybody in the conference always downplays us, thinks that we're not going to do anything," said Cornell running back Travion Hardman.
Yep. And until they do, we will continue to think that.
Lots of talk coming from Mt Vernon right now.

on a side note, Coe scrimmages Grand View today -- hate the choice to scrimmage a weaker team because it doesn't really tell you where you need to be the following week.  It will be nice to blow out the opposition, but that's not what a scrimmage is for.

Coe has scrimmaged Wisconsin Plattville the past few years but Plattville backed out from what i heard only a few weeks ago.  This leaving very few teams to scrimmage so Coe went with what was left.  So Grand View comes to Coe today for a scrimmage.  Also i have heard they got many kids from Florida and Texas because they offer scolarships.

I'm sorry, but everyone in Cornell is talking like they have done something in the past couple years when in all honestly they haven't done jack.  They are almost putting a mark on their back to make sure people notice them.  week.  It will be nice to blow out the opposition, but that's not what a scrimmage is for.
They must have missed Phelps in the olympics talking about the effect trash talk has on his performance.  I have a feeling it could be a really long year for Cornell.

When I looked at the Grandview roster it seemed almost evenly split between Texas and Iowa kids.  I didn't notice many from Florida but maybe it has been updated.

Another interesting note about the Register.  A poster mentioned that if they didn't beat Coe in their scrimmage they would be in for a long year...inferring that D3 is weak.  They also mentioned that Grandview would be lucky to stay on the field against Southwest Baptist.  Southwest Baptist is a D2 school...but they are a D2 school that went 0-11 last season!!!

Some people that think they are football fans really have a very limited knowledge of the game!!!

I could have been misinformed.  I thought they said Texas and Florida but maybe it was just Texas.  Also I saw that they had a d-lineman that was 6' or 6' 1" and weighed 370 lbs roughly.  Thats a big boy

Never mind a 2nd team All Conference TE (The only All-conference TE last year) and an honorable mention returning that are not from Cornell.

From the CR Gazette story I am sure Purple Heys will like this line...

Offensively, there is a strong nucleus at the skill positions with returning starters Hardman, tight end Alex Macey and sophomore quarterback Dallas Bush. Dillon called Macey the best tight end in the IIAC and Bush one of its top future overall players

Mav45, maybe Dillon arranged a "Tonya Harding" on Jordan's knee so he could claim best TE in the conference :o :o :o

Just kidding, still a huge blow to Central to lose him.

Great press, Heys, congratulations!
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

it almost seems like there is a ton of talk comming out of Mt Vernon right now.  i can't wait until Coe pops the balloon and brings Cornell back down to earth.  I'm sorry, but everyone in Cornell is talking like they have done something in the past couple years when in all honestly they haven't done jack.  They are almost putting a mark on their back to make sure people notice them.  if i were them i would want to fly waaayy under the radar until the first conference game.  It's great that Cornell has a good amount of players comming back (for them).  Everyone else has at least that amount of players comming back.

Thats all I need is for Coe to start talking smack. Coe, your days are numbered,
In the words of fellow fans, Purple Heys, I hope you can count the days off.

that's all you need?  you going to in some way effect teh outcome of the game?  seriously, if any players read this sight (and i know some do) you are diggin cornell in a big hole that the probably wont get out of this year.
you have the biggest mouth on the board -- it used to be wartburg guys, but it isn't even close now.  for your sake, tone it down a bit, until Cornell puts any points on the board.

Central has always been a big destination for R-S grads. Several of footballkid's era are going there. Although he might have had a great career there, he's very happy and comfortable with Wartburg. He was recrited by all the IIAC schools all the way up to Columbia. He still knows it was the right decision.

I had the good fortune to have worked in the Admission Office at Central for several years, a totally great job.  I always felt that Central would sell itself if kids came on campus to visit, etc, etc, etc.  The real freedom I enjoyed was KNOWING that if a kid visited Wartburg, and really felt like that was their best decision....it was easy to tell them that Wartburg was exactly the place they should go...there was NO ARGUING!  It was a great relief for kids/families to finally "know" where to go/what to do, and we always chose to celebrate that decision, affirm it, and compliment them on choosing a great college.....Sometimes we might have thought that they would be better served at Central, but we knew ultimately our opinions didn't count, so we just wished them well and sent them off with a smile.  Later, we could bitch and moan about losing a good kid that we would have loved to represent our student-body and programs.  But you just move on and do your best with the next family.

Your typical Iowa kid is a hard working, respectful person, with a mom and dad who loves 'em, and they're all just trying to figure things out as they go.  It was a great thing to know that they would be well taken care of at most any other college of their choosing.  MANY great college options, and a great, exciting time in life for them.

There are several Wartburg grads, Simpson grads etc around here in Pella...classy, hard-working people who are just as delightful after graduating from there, and we're happy to have them here in town.   (Except when they do that "be orange" stuff)  My 7-yr-old daughter's 2nd grade teacher is a great young lady we tried to recruit for VB many years ago, lost her to 'Burg, but now we get to have her as a great teacher!  It's a wonderful "big picture".

Former Loras QB Brad Schmit is competing for the starting QB job at Grand View.  I dont know how he is doing, i just know he went there to play.  he played at loras for a year (semester) then transfered to iowa (not for FB) for a year and a half or so, and now is trying to play again.

A crappy team like Cornell needs to have confidence and talk that way to even give themselves the thought in their mind that they have a chance to keep scores close, let alone win a game this year.

That's it, the arrogance is starting to smell and I need boots to keep it off my feet.

Your day is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
