Im sorry Heys but brother ShowMe has ruined it for me.  I was really hoping that Cornell would pull our the cellar this year and win some balls games.  I figured that it would make the conference stronger and show kudos to the Cornell players/coaching staff for making things happen.

Facts are facts and Rudy is already an award winning movie.  We have had enough tear jerker football movies about hope and determination.  The funny thing is if Cornell goes 0-4 ShowMe will still be blabbering his mouth but what about 0-6 and then 0-10.  What are you going to say then?

There's always next year!!!  He could always try that approach!!!

Maybe if people wouldn't complain so much about ShowMe he wouldn't be so out there in his posts?!?!  He seems to get revved up when he is called out.  Otherwise he just seems to be fired up and a good cheerleader until he starts getting bashed.  Then he does get a little over the top.  I guess I would rather have cheerleading for your team then talking down about other teams.

I still hope Cornell picks up a few wins this year.  They have some good kids in their program.  I just hope this year still sees another "Debacle against Dubuque" headline in a local paper after the Cornell/Dubuque game!!!  ;D

I think ShowMe went through a time warp and thinks he is back in the days of the Midwest Conference where Coe and Cornell were both successful.

Dubuque will make every IIAC team their bitches this season!!!

Um, actually I don't have it in me to talk like that.

While I can laugh at some smack talk, I just don't like doing it.  I guess I just respect the other teams too much, and hope they respect my team back.  I want my team to win, and it hurts when they lose (especially triple OT games to Central) but in the end it's a d3 football game.  If I am at the game and see someone from this site while there I would hope to share a beer with them.  I don't hate them because they support a rival team.

D-Dog, you hit on it exactly. Respect is what it's all about, and it's not given until it is earned. The Wartburg,Central, and Coe posters on here may be arrogant, but they have earned the right to be on the field. And though there may be some good-natured kidding, or even some smack, they have respect for all the conference schools. UNLESS there is someone who makes wild boasts and predictions with nothing to back them up. And if it's one who claims to represent the program, all it does is diminish the respect for that program. I'm sure if they were connected in some way to the program the coach would have sent out a gag order a long time ago. No coach wants to put a target on his team's back.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

These are great points and posts.  I did not mean anything against the kids playing at Cornell as I know they have been working their tails off to reach a better level of success.  I just get tired to hearing the Stephen A Smith, Marv Leavy, Rudy, Mike Tarico, Mike Golic, Harry Carey, Joe Buck, quotes over and over again.

I congratulate ShowMe for raising interest in his team.  Admit it, always before you looked at the Cornell game almost like a bye.  Now how many of you are looking forward to when your team plays the Rams?

Interesting how Dordt chose to play a season of junior varsity ball before tackling their first season of varsity while Grandview decided to jump into the pool feet first!!!

Also interesting that the NAIA is losing teams and are down to about 90 nationwide now but there have been 4 new football programs go NAIA in Iowa.  William Penn left D3 and then Briar Cliff, Dordt and now Grandview have started new programs.  Seems a bit odd that many schools are jumping off the NAIA boat while you have some Iowa schools joining up.

This is probably because about 90% of Dordt's enrollment comes from like 25 high schools, of which I think only 6 play FB.  I heard these stats when they were hiring head coaches, as Coach Kac interviewed up there.  I do believe that more of these HS are indeed starting up FB, but the normal recruiting bins were pretty bare.  Pella Christian started FB a few short years ago, and when asked, the coaches (Jerry Staton, retired Oskaloosa coach) stated that there were NO college FB candidates from PC (at that time)  They'll have a tough time competing, I think.

I have never been a fan of Purple or purple and black but those are some UGLY socks.

Did you notice the lick the Luther DB put on his teammate that was going to make the tackle? Rendered him unconscious. Missed the next game too.

Hopefully the DB has a great year this year as well and can be more precise in who he is leveling! ;D

That was a heck of a hit!!!  I didn't take notice the first time I watched.  After the hit being noted on here I took another look.  It made me wince (spelling???) just looking at it.  I wonder if those two talk to each other anymore???  ;D

"Everybody in the conference always downplays us, thinks that we're not going to do anything," said Cornell running back Travion Hardman.
Yep. And until they do, we will continue to think that.
Lots of talk coming from Mt Vernon right now.

...like there's never any talk coming from places like Waverly or Cedar Rapids...which, just like every other school NOT named Central, hasn't won a conference title in the last 2 years...despite all the talk.

I got that one on tape too...the poor kid bent over in half backwards.  I was glad to see that he wasn't more seriously hurt.

One that was a hell of a shot that that Luther kid laid, and I was shocked that the wide receiver made it through that hit to score.  I guess at Luther they need to teaching tackling with the eyes open haha, I kid I kid.

But after reading all the quotes about Cornell being cocky, and trash talking, I'm sorry but I just didn't see what apparently everyone else saw in those reports.  Yes, it is quite possible that Cornell was over confident but do you blame them?  If you don't believe you are going to win, you never will.  Reminds me of a quote I used to use as motivation:
"There are two men. One believes he can while the other believes he can't. Both are right. Son, which one are you?"

I personally don't think that the players and coaches are trying to start this war of words with the rest of the confidence because we all know talk is cheap.  And I definitely know there is respect for the conference, as that is one of the things preached about, that this is one of the toughest conferences in the nation, there is no easy wins.  Unfortunately for us, we have come up on the real short end of the stick the last few years, but it's nice to hear that there is confidence and that is always the first step to becoming a better program.

And what did you guys want them to say? We'll we've been really bad this year, we just hope that we can compete?  That itself would already sound like a defeatist attitude and would show that they were in no way ready to compete.
"You have the ring, and I see your Schwartz is as big as mine. Let's see how well you handle it."

PH should note that not only did Dillon call his son the best TE in the conference.  But there is also a picture of Jr. in the paper!!!

While I hate to count one as in the books...I really think we'll deal with Grinnell successfully.  Carleton has me worried, I have a lot of respect fo the MIAC...and could go either way but it is a home game, so I like our chances.

Coe's past success for all its worth doesn't count for jack on game day, they lost a lot more, IMHO, than their faithful will ever let on.

Cornell hung tight with Coe last year with a Freshman QB at the controls and pathetic kicking game.  Coe countered with the senior TeKippe and their [sarcasm] "second coming of the '85 Bears defense" [/sarcasm].  For about 3+ quarters Cornell was the equal in that game and if Coe fan wasn't the least bit concerned, they are as delusional as ShowMe.

Cornell's depth, still an issue, will be a factor.

I do think Cornell has representative talent that can compete, and win in this conference.  I do get the fact that losing can grind down even good players, but I have some faith that the current crop is ready to come of age and that the last two years have helped more than hurt this group.

Last year I picked  with my heart for Cornell to beat Coe...but I believed Coe to be the better team then.  This year I am picking Cornell to beat Coe because I think Coe took a big step back, losing Raeburn and Cornell is ready to take a step up.  I think Cornell is good enough to beat Coe and Coe is bad enough to lose to us.
