If we are already talking about POY why Breitbach isn't included really confuses me.
KK87 - go check out my POY pick on the pick-ems.  I have him there.

This year will be very similar to 2003 for Wartburg. Everyone knows they will be good so there's not going to be any sneaking up. The defense will be top 5 in D3 and the offense has to just not suck and they will be fine. The difference between '03 and this year-A returning starter at QB this year that has some pretty good stats on his sheet.

That does not compute.  Correct me if I am wrong but didn't you have a returning all confernce QB in 04 that didn't even make all conference in 05?

He's right. I'm not a Yordi fan by any means, but his antics last year mean nothing to POY voting. It's not the Gagliardi trophy -- it strictly represents on-field contribution to overall personal and team success.

We can work like hell to keep him from having a perfect season, though, if we want to keep the award out of his hands.  ;)
Sounds like a plan to me.

Im sorry Heys but brother ShowMe has ruined it for me.  I was really hoping that Cornell would pull out of the cellar this year and win some ball games.  I figured that it would make the conference stronger and show kudos to the Cornell players/coaching staff for making things happen.

Facts are facts and Rudy is already an award winning movie.  We have had enough tear jerker football movies about hope and determination.  The funny thing is if Cornell goes 0-4 ShowMe will still be blabbering his mouth but what about 0-6 and then 0-10.  What are you going to say then?

We have pride!

Now what will you say if the shoe was on the other foot? I can see you are spoiled, out of touch with lossing.

Out of touch with losing?  Give me a break.  I played for and graduated from BV.  I was a part of heart breaking losses and a conference championship collapse.  Spoiled would not be the word that I would use to discribe myself.

You know, ShowMe, not a single poster would dislike you like we do had you not introduced yourself to the board with the "You all are going to eat crow at the end of the season. Cornell wins, you all suck" attitude. You said that crap to elicit a response, and we responded. Then you try to call foul because we aren't letting you support your team in the way you want to. You can support any way you want, and we will defend in the same way we have been. At the end of the day, though, you are the only one here that takes this as a personal afront.

In case you hadn't noticed, we're all pretty good friends in here -- even Klop and I get along. We all have buddies on here from other schools, and most of us are good people (even though some of these guys didn't have the good sense to go to Central....I can only hold that against them for so long, right?)  ;)

My point is....don't upset the apple cart. We grant respect where respect is earned. Want proof? Read back a ways. I was one of the first people to give UD props...I hinged a lot of my Pick Ems on them last year. When we see positive things going on, there is bound to be a comment.

If you insist on typing every post with your dukes up, ready to fight, people are going to stop responding. Even worse for you, you are going to lose the little credibility that you have left. My free advice to you....chill out, and think (don't drink) before you post.  ;D

In the spirit of the day, I'll even throw in a Go Cornell!

[The preceding PSA brought to you by the NRA, now back to your regularly scheduled programming.]

Sorry -- this post comes a bit late....all is now calm in here....

Nice post ;)

Dubuque will make every IIAC team their bitches this season!!!

Um, actually I don't have it in me to talk like that.

While I can laugh at some smack talk, I just don't like doing it.  I guess I just respect the other teams too much, and hope they respect my team back.  I want my team to win, and it hurts when they lose (especially triple OT games to Central) but in the end it's a d3 football game.  If I am at the game and see someone from this site while there I would hope to share a beer with them.  I don't hate them because they support a rival team.

What part doesn't compute? That Hoskins got 2nd team AC his soph year?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Wow, '03 was a heck of a team...not good for the other teams in the IIAC.  I may be remembering a different year, but didn't the '03 have some pretty good running backs?  I only ask b/c it seems one of the question marks on this year's Wart team is at RB.

You are right KCDutch the big question mark is going to be at running back this year. Not saying anything bad about any of the kids on the team, but I don't think they have had a punishing back sense Hammes graduated and the ones before him.

doolittledog

Do most teams want a punishing back anymore???

I thought with the way offenses were evolving most teams wanted a quick, elusive back that could also catch passes out of the backfield.

Since I slipped the disc in LL14/15 my back has been punishing me day and night.  :D

And THAT, is why you don't play football with your boys out in the yard anymore!!!  :P

You may be right. But after watching the backs from 2003 thru 2006 those guys hit the D for one half, when it came to the second half they start to gain alot of yards. I'm not saying anyone was afraid of them I just stating it start to take it effect.

As long as you have that game on tape, you would be the one to ask. What happened on your sons TD reception? I had an obstructed view. It looked like he caught it lying on the ground after it bounced off of someone else. All I could really see was a mass of humanity and Heys Jr. getting up with the ball.

I got that on tape too.  Here's what happened:

Inside the Luther 5, Jr. lined up on the right side and did a slant route over the middle.  He had a step and a half on the backer when the Cornell QB threw the ball...right to the trailing backer.

The backer was so beat he was focused on catching up to Jr. so when the ball nearly hit him between the numbers, he didn't react to it directly...Jr. reached back a big paw and before the backer could react, Jr. had deflected the ball and as he slipped from stopping and twisting to reach back Jr. juggled the ball with one hand and finally coralled it while laying on his back.

It was a very nice play and he showed some nice agility for a big moose.   :)

Lol, he also made another great catch on the two-point conversion afterwards, but this time the referee made a bad call and decided it was a no catch.  Man that QB really was terrible wasnt he :P

I wouldn't be so hard on the guy...The QB made the play, got the ball within reach, Jr. helped make him come out smelling like a rose on the play.

And you were right about the 2 point PAT play.  Ref ruled a trap but clearly Jr. dove and scooped it before it hit the ground...I think the QB may have short-armed that one a bit.   But it was a catch and a bad call.

;)

So I saw the video on KGAN and the CR Gazette article...

Tra looks real solid, looks like he put in his work this summer.

It would be cool for him to get the School Record rushing yards this year.  Will be a challenge.

A challenge to the new OL.

This is my distant, uninformed take on the IIAC this year:

!-2)  Of course it is Wartburg and Central fighting it out.  It will all depend on Yordi against the traditionally invincible Central secondary.  Plus to Central. But even Willis can't overcome that def.
3)  Dubuque's new QB (Olen, IA) doesn't have the same swager as Jemar Jackson.  Minus Dubuque.
4) Simpson moves up.  Maybe even over Dubuque.
5) Coe strugglers with coach having left.  Medicore recruiting this year and nothing exceptional returning. Next year they are back in it if they get a recruiting class and one year further head coaching experience.
6) BV stays where they were.  Improving but struggle with retention and recruitment.  Of course they will beat Luther as they have done for a dozen years.
7-8) Loras and Cornell in a pitch battle for 7 and 8th  place.  Loras is an non-entity at this time and Cornell seem to talk about a lot of ZIP. Norse may have a chance with LORAS, BUT......  .
9)  Alas, the Norse are trying to assemble a backfield of some sorts, have an new OL line and have a totally inexperienced secondary compounding on inept play last year.  Doesn't look good.   As much as I regret to have to say it, it appears that the Rams will indeed get their first win in IIAC since 2003 even at Carlson Stadium.

However, Alexander Pope once said, ""Hope springs eternal in the human breast:  Man never is, but always to be, blest".  Who knows.....but even those Norse have a chance.....to be blest.
