I can't draw any conclusions from today's scrimmage with Grandview. Feller is not at Tekippe's level, but he had his moments. It appears the job is his to lose.

I tried to keep score in my head and had something like 66-24 (assuming all PATs would have been tried and converted), but there were no winners or losers. Coe got a good look at what it has and what's coming, and there were few surprises. Grandview got to play live football against someone else! How cool that must be for them.

Personally, I'd rather have had a more established scrimmage opponent, but I'm proud that Coe helped usher in Grandview football. The more the merrier, right?

This will just confuse some NAIA and D2 people.  I can see it now..."we offer scholarships...we should kill D3 teams...they don't offer scholarships...how could this happen!!!"

Mostly it will confuse those that do not understand how good d3 football is . Alot of the D3 kids could play up they choose not to  8) 8) 8)

Do most teams want a punishing back anymore???

I thought with the way offenses were evolving most teams wanted a quick, elusive back that could also catch passes out of the backfield.

I thought Vance [Schurring] did that pretty well for us the last three years.  He could break one, deliver a blow, and catch the ball.

AND he never fumbled!

Preseason All-Americans: Six Iowa Conference football players were named to preseason All-America Teams.
Coe senior defensive back/kick returner Tom Breitbach was named to the Second Team by D3football.com,
while he and teammate Jordan Wilkins, a senior defensive lineman, were named to the Second Team by
Lindy's. Dubuque defensive end Rohan Malcom and defensive tackle Travis Strowbridge were named to the
First Team Defense by Consensus Draft Services (CDS), while senior offensive tackle Steven Coleman was
named to the Second Team Offense. Wilkins and Simpson senior defensive tackle Tim Stover were named to
the Second Team Defense by CDS.

Please! Who ever heard of "Consensus Draft Services"? There are only two legitimate pre-season All-Americans in the conference, and they're both Kohawks.

8 NCAA football playoff appearances

Boy oh boy, I don't understand this pre-season stuff.   ???

All these super stars on other teams, but my lowly little Knights are pre-season favorites.   :o

That has to be an error.  :-\

With everybody else being loaded with studs it would appear to me that Wartburg should be happy with a fifth place finish.  Maybe they can struggle in ahead of Cornell and Luther.   ::)

Then again, Coach Willis may have something in the cupboard to work with.  ;)

They wouldn't and they won't. And you missed the point.

Try this as a high school football oddity.  The Muscatine Muskies will play all their regular season games on only two fields this season.  All their away games are against the four Davenport high schools and will be played at Davenport's Brady Street Stadium.  The remaining five conference games will be played at home in the friendly confines of Muskie Stadium.  This season the Muskies could end up with as many games at Brady Street as some of the Davenport schools.  With the crowds Davenport public schools draw, Muscatine could end up with home field advantage 8 out of 9 games.

Try this as a college football oddity: I expect Coe will start the year as the only college in the country whose starting quarterback is older than the offensive coordinator.

So does that mean this QB is on the normal 8 year program at Coe?   ;D :P

Anyone know if UD had a scrimmage yet or has one today?  And if they did, any reports?

Thats all fine and dandy and to me its inevitable there will be plenty of IIAC additions to that list at the end of the year.  But your overall tone conveys that Coe will be led to the promised land because you have the only "legitimate" preseason All-Americans in the conference.  Your defense is notably stronger and has less questions than your offense at this point in the season.  Theres a lot of unknowns when it comes to new faces and the leader of your team, the qb.  If it turns out he has the uncanny ability to lead receivers into the path of one pissed off defender things may not work out so well.  Only time will tell but much more goes into a team than an All-American or two.  Cornell had an All-American and went 2-8....so if theres some kind of deranged formula to be had out of that you should expect a 4-6 season.  Overall I think you have a solid team, but im just saying dont be surprised if they finish middle of the pack.
Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

Board has slowed down a lot today. I'm watching a HS football game in Indiana on ESPN and getting fired up for football season. T-two weeks. Question for Central posters. KNIA still does webcasts of all the games right?

yes they are webcast.  If you go to the Central site there are links that track it down.  I believe a web search for kniskrls.com is the site.

Central Fans and Pella visitors, if you were a fan of Dr. Salami's you will need to find a new place for awhile.  It is currently closed, but will be reopening as a restaurant again in the future.  My understanding is that the new owners were planning to offer many of the same options as before, but until it reopens, we can only speculate.  There is always the Sports Page.

This is my distant, uninformed take on the IIAC this year:

!-2)  Of course it is Wartburg and Central fighting it out.  It will all depend on Yordi against the traditionally invincible Central secondary.  Plus to Central. But even Willis can't overcome that def.
3)  Dubuque's new QB (Olen, IA) doesn't have the same swager as Jemar Jackson.  Minus Dubuque.
4) Simpson moves up.  Maybe even over Dubuque.
5) Coe strugglers with coach having left.  Medicore recruiting this year and nothing exceptional returning. Next year they are back in it if they get a recruiting class and one year further head coaching experience.
6) BV stays where they were.  Improving but struggle with retention and recruitment.  Of course they will beat Luther as they have done for a dozen years.
7-8) Loras and Cornell in a pitch battle for 7 and 8th  place.  Loras is an non-entity at this time and Cornell seem to talk about a lot of ZIP. Norse may have a chance with LORAS, BUT......  .
9)  Alas, the Norse are trying to assemble a backfield of some sorts, have an new OL line and have a totally inexperienced secondary compounding on inept play last year.  Doesn't look good.   As much as I regret to have to say it, it appears that the Rams will indeed get their first win in IIAC since 2003 even at Carlson Stadium.

However, Alexander Pope once said, ""Hope springs eternal in the human breast:  Man never is, but always to be, blest".  Who knows.....but even those Norse have a chance.....to be blest.

The Norse finally got B.V. last year as that was the last school that Coach Hefty had not beaten.

Hopefully Thunderbolt feels better about this upcoming season than you do oldNorse!
And I do. I can forgive oldNorse for his moment of weakness. I too, sometimes suffer from self doubt and indecision. But, to concede victory to Cornell?? IN FOOTBALL??? Before the season starts?????
Someone needs to check on this mans well being.
